I haven't read this entire thread so if this has already been exhausted please excuse me. I can't stand how the ABC stores hold all the Buffalo Trace for restaurants. It's a state run agency paid for by individual taxpaying consumers just as much as restaurants. It's ridiculous. That said, there are a few ABC stores I know of where I can buy BT for $30, one per day, because they are so rural that no restaurant people go there. Lastly. Elijah Craig is my second favorite affordable bourbon - didn't see any discussion of it early in this thread on the first few pages at least. Check it out if you haven't.
Curmudgeon.zen answered my question about Elijah Craig as follows….

"EC Rye is ok at best. Fine for cocktails. If you plan to drink it neat or on a rock, I highly recommend paying a few dollars more to pick up a Michter's Rye. You won't be sorry."

What I said about the EC Rye also goes for EC Small Batch Bourbon. Decent pour, fine for cocktails, nothing wrong with it. That said, if you plan to drink it neat or on a rock, I'd suggest spending a few extra bucks and grabbing a Michter's Small Batch Bourbon instead. IMO, it's a big step up in the quality of the juice for a really minimal step up in price. Tastes are subjective, though, so really the best advice I can give is try 'em all, find bottles you like, drink 'em the way you like 'em with people you like. Cheers!!

After hitting the gym tonight, picked up some Minor Case Rye to try out…haven't had any yet because basically nothing went as planned this evening…I get home with a bolt in my truck tire, my father-in-law needs to go to the emergency room and I'm typing this from north WakeMed while he gets a blood transfusion. Looking forward to cracking it open if I ever get home and don't have any more fires to put out for awhile.

Anemia. Turned out he needed a blood transfusion. Much better than we feared given his heart probs. Thanks for asking.

No problem. Hoping for the best for you and your family.

Minor Case not bad for cocktails. Neat, I'm not sure I like it better than Makers for example, but it's apples to oranges. I'd probably feel the same about Elijah Craig or other ryes. But it does have an odd foretaste. Must be the Sherry casks they make it in.

I was lucky enough to get an EH Taylor at the Youngsville allocated lottery last night.

I'm not that much of a whiskey snob, when I go to Youngsville, I usually try anything off the shelf with an attractive label, LOL.

That Youngsville store is the most unique abc store in the state. If you're ever by there it's worth stopping just to check it out.

Yeah one of the guys that works there was telling me how they have one of the best selections in the entire state. I believe him based off my visits to other stores. Some of the Wake and Durham allocated bottles are just sitting on the shelf in Youngsville

Picked up a Widow Jane "The Vaults" 15 Year this morning here on the coast. They still had some other stuff too, but I figured if I could grab anything 15 Year or older, that I'd better do it while I can. Doubt I'll ever see that one again.

Haven't had that one, but I've had their Lucky 13 year, which I really liked. I tend to agree than when I see something carrying a good age statement, I will pick it up. There's so much young overpriced bourbon out there, but you can't fake time in the barrel. I am starting to see a small shift back to higher aged stocks from some of the big producers, such as wild Turkey seeming like they're going to go back to an 8 year age statement on 101. That would be nice.

Went back again this morning hoping to score an Eagle Rare or Buffalo Trace for actual immediate drinking while they still have it available and was surprised to still see several of the "one offs" (for lack of a better word). Went for the Ben Holladay 1856 Original "Rickhouse Proof" (123.3 Proof).

Guy said they still had "cases" left of the previously forementioned, so I figured I was at least safe for another day or two to go back and grab something to drink this weekend.

Anybody ran across this in the wild? Looks to be blended with age statements between 8-14 years. A little more than the standard Bookers offerings ($150).

I've seen posts about it online, but haven't seen it in person. I also haven't been looking much lately.

I've been looking for the Bookers reserve with no luck. Great find, heard really good things. Also love the Ben Holladay offerings. Good price point as well.

Love me some Buffalo, pouring me a drink as we speak.
