Hurricanes finally get of the schnied on their long road trip with a 4-1 win over Ottawa. Aho with two goals and an assist. PK killed off 5 penalties and PP was 2-2. Whole team played really good defense too.

Pyotor Kocetkov was magnificent in goal. He got beat on a tip in the first period but that was it. He shut down the Senators and was dialed in. Stopped a couple of breakaways and a penalty shot by Brady Tchuck. He used a poke check on the penalty shot and sent Tchuck flying over him into the boards. Brady got a little hot under the collar and Kochetkov was talking trash to him and ready to go until the ref got him away. It was late in the game and a good time to show his fire.

Svech still out from the dirty hit last week in Winnepeg and Rod said he might be out for a while. Bush league cross check on him where he had no padding. Probably bruised or possibly broken ribs.

Last year about this time the Hurricanes were 12-6-5 or something like that and then they went 14-0-1 the next 15 games. Tonight before the game they were 14-12-1 and had lost 4 in a row. Maybe tonight will propel them like last year. One more game on the road and then they have a ton of home games in the next 30 days.

Don't forget, both Thursday in Detroit and Friday against Nashville are ESPN+/Hulu games. They are also 7:30 p.m. ET starts.

Steve Levy and Kevin Weekes will have the call at Little Caesars Arena, while Mike Monaco, Ryan Callahan, and Blake Bolden have the #Canes' return home.

Canes just put goaltender Antti Raanta on Waivers. Not sure if Freddy Andersen is ready to return or not.

I was at the game last night and Raanta struggled some, but there was really only one goal he probably should have stopped and did not. He did also give up a wrap around and couldn't get back to the other post, but there was another Hurricane player in his way. It's a brutal business.

Canes have recalled goaltender Yaniv Perrets from the Norfolk Admirals. He is a rookie and led Quninpiac to a National Championship last year.

They are playing well but just not getting any goals right now. Points in 6 straight games and they have had more road games than any other team. Already 19 games away from PNC. Starting in early January, they don't go on the road for almost 5 weeks.

As of today they are still a playoff team and only 7 points out of first place in the East. Svech has missed 15 or 16 games and Kochetkov has found his groove in the net. He has been lights out the last 5 games he has started. All is not lost yet. Still 49 games to go and this time last year they were in the middle of an incredible streak of getting 29 out of 30 points or something like that. They just need to string 4 or 5 wins together and they will be fine.

A federal bankruptcy court judge approved a short-term broadcast arrangement between the NHL and Bally Sports Regional Networks through the end of the current season. This was a formality with the league, Bally Sports and creditors on board. The terms are sealed.
