Who is everyone's driver? Mine has been Blaney for the last several seasons.
All mine are gone / retired.

Buddy Baker
Davey Allison
Bill Elliott
Bobby Labonte
Junior.

I can't find one now that I really like --- though there are a whole bunch whom I can't really stand. I want to like Chase, but he's so polished/boring, he's difficult to warm up to.
Maybe Blaney?

With Junior, its kinda like my favorite golfer, Rickie Fowler --- awesome personality, good person, lots of hype early on, win some big events, but then a lot of non-performance that led to just not being as interested.
But at least when Junior was driving, I'd tune in hoping he'd do well; I've watched very very little outside Daytona/Dega since he left.

We have had so many great broadcasters in NASCAR. I was always partial to the Dr. because of his relationship to NC State.

As far as main voices, I always liked Allen Bestwick. His energy and excitement is intoxicating!
Sad thing is so many of these voices are passing away. Ned Jarrett was a favorite, I liked Benny Parsons. Bestwick was great.
I agree. It is sad. Right now, Jr. is the best in the business, for me…
Jr. has made a name for himself outside the car which I love. He truly cares about the sport. It's history and where it's heading. His series about the forgotten tracks is a must watch. Waiting for him to do a segment on Wilson County Speedway.

Glass, great picture! Who are the two other men? Also, is that Wilson County Speedway?

Left to right - Hill Barnes of Skyland Chevrolet in Snow Hill, NC, Dale Earnhardt, Robert Gee. This is when I met him in 1977 at the year end Southern 200

Robert Gee was the car owner who was also his father in law. The car was also driven by Darrell Waltrip in previous years at the track

Here's the finishing line up. Some interesting names.

1) Dale Earnhardt Kannanapolis, NC #17 Camaro $2,500

2) Tommy Houston Hickory, NC #95 Nova $1,500 (Teresa Earnhardt's Uncle)

3) Monk Tate Ruffin, NC #86 Nova $1,150

4) "Farmer" John Matthews Raleigh, NC #16 Chevelle $ 850

5) Earl Arnold Raleigh, NC #1 Nova $ 650

6) J.E. Beard Bailey, NC Nova $ 590

7) Dennis Smith Goldsboro, NC Nova $ 400

8) Sam Ard Asheboro, NC Pontiac $ 300

9) Tommy Tudor Emporia, VA Chevelle $ 200

10) Stick Elliott Shelby, NC Mustang $ 150

LOL, his swing change didn't work and then trying to change it again in short order is tough. He now fits James convention of "just a guy". Like I did w/Junior, keep hoping he'll get it back at some point.

Sorry he was her Uncle
My bad. I was living up in Hickory in the very late 80's and got to know some people that originally started out racing locally with Dale Jarrett - and Tommy Houston was another local racing name and I guess I remembered it wrong. Yes, you are correct, he was her uncle.

Another kind of funny (interesting) story is that around that time, I also met a young lady that was kind of out within our social circle from a fairly prominent area family who had NASCAR associated sponsorship participation with Hendrick... I remember instantly finding her very attractive, really classy and great to talk to, but our conversations never seemed like they were going anywhere past casual in nature, and I couldn't immediately put my finger on exactly what seemed to be "missing" there. She was never dating anyone that I could tell, but yet here she was out participating (guardedly albeit) in the scene with the rest of us late "twentysomethings" - until a friend explained it to me that she had previously dated Tim Richmond for what I guess one could term as "more than once or twice" (and this is literally just "months" after he had died). That quickly explained a lot of things .

The "good part" of that second story however, is that 15 years later I moved my family back there again (I got married towards the end of my first 3 year stint up there) for several more years while my kids were growing up - and actually had renewed business dealings with her family again and was happy to learn that things had eventually turned out completely normal for her, healthy, married and with a family.

@Daytona is completely sold out for this Sunday's Daytona 500, including suites and the infield on top of the previously announced grandstand sellout.

Sources anticipate between 130,000-150,000 people on site Sunday.

Will be interesting once we get past Daytona and what happens there. Due to the new car, supply chains and a number of other factors, teams are super short on cars. I know one team that had to take their Daytona car to a sponsor announcement as a show car. These boys are gonna be working some real late nights if they tear a bunch up in Daytona.

I had not even thought about that, but you are right. All the teams will struggle if they start tearing equipment up. I feel bad already for some of the smaller, single car operations. They may not even make it through a complete season if supply issues don't improve soon.

That's the interesting part. The team I mentioned with the show car is not a small team. All of the parts are supposed to be distributed equally with this new car across the teams. Now I'm sure "equal" doesn't have that exact definition...and being able to throw more people at it with big teams will help...but it's going to be somewhat of a problem for everyone in the short term.

Are the team still building their chassis?

I'll be tuning in in three more hours to get my first look at the new cars on a real track...

Teams are not building chassis anymore. Everything is being purchased from one location. To my knowledge, some teams have kept some heavy fab on just cause they don't know what skills are going to be needed moving forward. I'm not in it day to day like I used to be, but definitely a big shift for all the teams personnel wise from both mechanics to pit crew.
