Here's my contribution for the 4th! Have a great day everybody!

One sees that is not your first rodeo, friend. That looks fantastic.

Our burgers and dogs turned out good also. Actually, the hot dogs were better to me than the burgers for some reason. Maybe it's been too long since I charcoal grilled them, IDK. It won't be that long again, as long as the gout stays away.

Enjoy the rest of the day. Got to finish getting things ready for tomorrows cook. Cheers, and Happy Independence Day!

Gawd, that's just perfection today

It was friend. Bourbon smoked sea salt and pepper on the burgers, brioche buns. It was great. I wish I could've been amongst friends, but for a moment it was like normal times.

Appreciate all the pics! This thread is fun, but the pics add a little something. Love all the fresh ideas.

It was a good day! Had a new baked bean recipe and some corn on the cob with butter and cajun sparkle. Getting ready for a bowl of ice cream.

Tomorrow, leftover brisket will be made into street tacos.

Grilled some New York Strips from Acre Station Meat Farm in Pinetown , along with some fresh Tuna Steaks.
Had fresh pink eye purple hill peas ( they were smacking good) and fresh butter beans and fresh corn.
My wife makes a home made mango salsa to go with the tuna. Outstanding.

And all of the other food shown in pics and described on here all sound and look fantastic.

I was really missing some corn today, somehow forgot that in my preparations. Brisket tacos sounds amazing.

Put the pork butt on at 7 am. Will put the turkey wings and legs on around noon.

Smoking with post oak lump charcoal, with hickory pellets sprinkled over it. Using the vortex that wings recommended, in the Weber kettle. Temp is holding steady at 280. The day is shaping up nicely.

The butt has been claw shredded and lightly sauced with Scott's. Everyone can add more to suit their taste as they wish.

I have to admit that I fubared the turkey wings and legs. Got caught not paying close enough attention to them and they wound up looking like cremation was the best option for them at the point I found them. Looks like another attempt in the future.

On the bright side, there's plenty of bbq for everyone. Got some Atkinson Mill hush puppies and homemade slaw with diced jalapeno's mixed in to go with the 'que.

My girlfriend hasn't eaten steak in 4 years and she is finally going to let me grill some center cut filets for dinner tonight. Background: she tried to see how long she could go as a vegetarian and then was scared it had been so long it would upset her stomach. Steak and pork are the last things she hasn't started eating again so this is a big step. I'll send pics after I pull them up!

Question for anyone on here that cans different things...what is your method of canning? The wife is really enjoying canning different things-she made some "cowboy candy" the other week that would make a puppy pull a freight train-and she mentioned wanting a "pressure canner" the other day. Her birthday is next month and this would be a great present for her but I don't have a clue what I'm really looking for. Google gives me a bunch of pressure cookers, which she already has and said wouldn't work. Anyone have info on these?

You know, it's weird. I spent a good chunk of my childhood helping my grandmother with picking, cleaning, and canning vegetables, but when I read your post, I realized that nearly four decades later, I have absolutely no idea how you actually do it. Lol, of no help I know, but man, those are good memories snapping green beans and shelling Lima beans.

We've got a pear tree in our back yard that's finally bearing fruit this year. I've had my grandma's pear preserve recipe since she passed and I think this is the year I finally try it out. A ton of memories of helping her pick pears...and then I'd use the bad ones for batting practice. When she passed the five brothers and sisters went to house to divvy everything up and I got all the remaining jars of preserves. She knew I loved those things

My wife learned to can from her gma and an aunt. She's doing blueberry preserves now and will start pear soon. Beans, pickles, etc. are old hat for her. I will get her to write down the process, and I'll try to post it here (broke my hand today so I am pecking as best as I can.) She's canned since we've been married, almost 27 years now.

JoCo, her recipe requires a lot of typing, so for self-preservation she suggested I guide you here. Hope it helps.

From the Ball / Kerr website. Lots of good info there.

Mrs. BTG is fixing "Keaton's BBQ" spicy fried chicken. For those of you that have either been to, or have had the pleasure of eating, Keaton's chicken, y'all know how good it is. Over the years, she's managed to come up with a recipe that is as close as I've had to Keaton's.

She's also making squash casserole (with squash from our garden), roasted new potatoes and spinach salad.

Mrs. BTG oven roasted a pork tenderloin with a blueberry balsamic reduction. Garlic mashed potatoes, green beans and hush puppies. Thankful that the Lord blessed me with a beautiful eastern NC girl that can out cook her late mama.

Hopefully by the weekend, I'll be able to master one handed grilling.

I can relate in a similar fashion. I married a true Jersey Italian! She learned everything from her mom and grandmother. When it's Italian night, don't nobody go hungry!

Never thought I'd say it's about too hot to grill, but I'm debating it. Picked up some bone in chops yesterday to fix. I think I'll just reverse sear them instead of grilling tonight. Got fresh sweet corn at the farmer's market this morning. That, and spinach salad with hot bacon dressing might work just fine tonight.

Just got back from camping for 5 nights in Pisgah with several cousins. 5 families, 17 head total. Nearly a week of 73-degree days and 59-degree nights was right on time.

Fought off temperate rain forest showers throughout the week and cooked over open flame 2x-3x daily for 5.5 days. Drove through a monsoon to get home and feel like I've been various stages of waterlogged for a month. Was an awesome trip, the perfect COVID vacay, and can't wait to do it again. Can't say enough about Black Mountain Campground - proximity to trails, swimming holes, waterfalls, Mt. Mitchell, and Lake James was incredible. ETA: even had our first black bear sighting at our campsite, a little 2 year-old that as the ranger tells it has just been cut loose by his mom and is foraging for easy pickings. Crazy to see that cute little guy up close.

So after all that...I'm not grilling **** this weekend. We may not even cook again till Monday.

Dinner tonight is crackers, aged white cheddar, olives, pepperoni, and really good brown mustard, washed down with a cheap Pinot. Then I'm going to shower and go to bed by 9 and hunt for 12 hours of clean, blissful sleep in my own bed, and on a real mattress, if the kids will let me!
