I find it interesting that Woodson referred to baseball as a revenue sport. Some folks have said we don't make money on baseball but wonder if that is true?

Every number I've found suggests that baseball does not make profit. It isn't as far from it as some other sports, but I posted the report from last year on another thread recently. I've found the numbers on multiple occasions from multiple reports over the years, and none suggested baseball was making anything over operating expenses. Perhaps all those budget reports are wrong, I dunno perhaps it varies by year.
Yeah it doesn't make money, but it's not as huge a negative as other sports.

I am going to guess it makes money at some places. Remember until now baseball only received 11.7 ships. Travel isn't tremendous. Mostly local modweeks and air travel maybe once wveey 2 weeks

Agreed with the fact that the Master Plan will be changing that area of campus a lot. The changes shown in the renderings should make that area of campus feel much more connected to the rest and open it all up a bit. Now that the softball stadium relocation plan has been changed, there's a lot of room to incorporate Lee Field into something beneficial for the fan experience at Doak.

However, tearing down Lee and Sullivan has been in the Master Plan for a while now and that part of the plan keeps getting pushed. Wouldn't shock me to see thae timeline for those changes to get delayed as well.

Agree with you that any near future construction may be pushed back for a long time, including some or part of the Doak renovations.

Construction costs in the Triangle and other urban areas of NC have sky-rocketed in the past 3-4 years and the monies raised for this phase of the Doak upgrades may simply be short, maybe even way short of meeting what the cost estimators have projected to be the costs of this project.

Just yesterday in Fayetteville, their city council terminated the construction of the new Crown Coliseum after the projected costs had risen from $125 million last October to $153 million to now around $198 million with the needed parking deck......that is an increase of $73 million in 7-8 months.

The dorm projects at State, along with the Doak renovations, are most likely caught up in these increasing constructions increases and that is most likely the reason that the Doak is making very slow progress.

To be blunt about it, unless there is a donor or donors with several million dollars to donate, that project will most likely be a ways off of being completed. And the thoughts about tearing it down and starting over with a new baseball complex may be a dream at this point in time.

That is where I would focus though - college baseball is hot - put the focus on the dream as you say. Let's not spend good money after bad. There are probably a few things baseball-wise that have to be done, but hold off on the stadium improvements and start a real capital campaign that maybe takes 10 years to realize but there is a vision for a major upgrade or new stadium that money can be raised for.

There's a thread on TOS right now lamenting how embarrassing our stadium is compared to other P4 stadiums, as they see others in the ongoing CWS.

For me, the biggest eyesore is that pathetic press box. It needs to be torn down immediately, with a bigger one, raised in elevation and moved back, and seating put in where the old one was. And add roof/awning over the seating from 1st to 3rd. Then aesthetically it would look light years better.

Completely agree on the press box. It is the biggest issue optically.

The lack of seating, the lack of season ticket holders in seats, the press box, no cover for fans, the lack of any outfield seating, the list goes on and on.

We laugh about Dukes stadium but you are talking about 1,500 seats. At least they have a damn cover.

These videos may have been posted in the previous 36 pages (I don't know), but just adding here again as an overview of what the current renovations will entail. Nothing is being done with the press box or a roof/awning over the existing seating from 1st to 3rd. How much would it cost for a new pressbox? The current renovations are 20 million? Surely they could come up with a couple million more for a new pressbox. I realize building a new pressbox (and seating where the old pressbox was) would involve revisions to those restroom buildings behind the existing pressbox. Just disappointed that this was not a part of the current renovations. If it's not done now, I guess we'll have to wait another 20 years before anything is done with the pressbox?

Construction costs in triangle area and all of central North Carolina have increased dramatically in the last 4 to 5 years. I know firsthand because I am a local elected official in Wake County and a project that first had projections in 2019 that were $3.5 million ended up costing $8.8 million and was completed last year.

A WPC member heavily involved in baseball. Costs could be pushing north of $30M

My seats this past season were next to the "designated scout seats." I think I saw only one scout sit there all season; most of the time, they stood on the concourse or moved around to empty seats on the aisle.

Some of you guys with more time and skills should be able to come up with some much better designs, but this is what Microsoft Co-pilot generated when I uploaded a picture of Doak and asked it to re-image the stadium without a press box, but with additional seats and a cover that mimics Denver's airport design. Go at it guys...this should be fun!

Not sure which games you attended, but my seat is one row above the designated "scout seats" and they were probably 50% full for the start of many games. But you are right to say that they tended to leave their seats and either stand against the wall or stand along the concourse. I did the same thing.

It's weird to me that covered seating always comes up in this discussion for a spring time sport, but no one would ever even think about it for football with 100 degree September and October games. Comfortable seating is a different discussion, baseball and football both need improvements there. All a moot point anyway, they're going to do what they already have planned (if we can still afford it).

I stay home and watch from my couch when the temp is 100 degrees. In both sports.

Yeah I don't get the coveted seating deal at all. Like I said before most of the season it's cold.

There's no coverage for when it pours rain or it's 100 degrees out. Each their own but you just rarely see a field above high school without a grandstand.

If they are covered it better be like the RV kind. Roll that bad boy up during the early season games.
