I find it interesting that Woodson referred to baseball as a revenue sport. Some folks have said we don't make money on baseball but wonder if that is true?

Every number I've found suggests that baseball does not make profit. It isn't as far from it as some other sports, but I posted the report from last year on another thread recently. I've found the numbers on multiple occasions from multiple reports over the years, and none suggested baseball was making anything over operating expenses. Perhaps all those budget reports are wrong, I dunno perhaps it varies by year.
Yeah it doesn't make money, but it's not as huge a negative as other sports.

I am going to guess it makes money at some places. Remember until now baseball only received 11.7 ships. Travel isn't tremendous. Mostly local modweeks and air travel maybe once wveey 2 weeks

Agreed with the fact that the Master Plan will be changing that area of campus a lot. The changes shown in the renderings should make that area of campus feel much more connected to the rest and open it all up a bit. Now that the softball stadium relocation plan has been changed, there's a lot of room to incorporate Lee Field into something beneficial for the fan experience at Doak.

However, tearing down Lee and Sullivan has been in the Master Plan for a while now and that part of the plan keeps getting pushed. Wouldn't shock me to see thae timeline for those changes to get delayed as well.

Agree with you that any near future construction may be pushed back for a long time, including some or part of the Doak renovations.

Construction costs in the Triangle and other urban areas of NC have sky-rocketed in the past 3-4 years and the monies raised for this phase of the Doak upgrades may simply be short, maybe even way short of meeting what the cost estimators have projected to be the costs of this project.

Just yesterday in Fayetteville, their city council terminated the construction of the new Crown Coliseum after the projected costs had risen from $125 million last October to $153 million to now around $198 million with the needed parking deck......that is an increase of $73 million in 7-8 months.

The dorm projects at State, along with the Doak renovations, are most likely caught up in these increasing constructions increases and that is most likely the reason that the Doak is making very slow progress.

To be blunt about it, unless there is a donor or donors with several million dollars to donate, that project will most likely be a ways off of being completed. And the thoughts about tearing it down and starting over with a new baseball complex may be a dream at this point in time.

That is where I would focus though - college baseball is hot - put the focus on the dream as you say. Let's not spend good money after bad. There are probably a few things baseball-wise that have to be done, but hold off on the stadium improvements and start a real capital campaign that maybe takes 10 years to realize but there is a vision for a major upgrade or new stadium that money can be raised for.
