You're referring to Southern Cal. I wouldn't use a west coast school as a benchmark for a southern state school where baseball is now massively popular and a big attraction.

Doak is half the size of what it should be and the fan amenities compared to peers are non-existent in its current form. With every passing year it because more embarrassing.

I probably shouldn't click through on any of these upgrade tweets for other schools but I was really surprised that the capacity & configuration of that USC baseball stadium didn't seem any different than the Doak. Quick search seems to confirm both have a 'normal' capacity around 2500.

It's shameful and infuriating.

The Doak renovations for the most part have mirrored the I-40 widening project. They always begin 10 years late, take too long and by the time they are complete they need to be widened. When Doak was renovated back in 2004 it was still 20 years behind. That would have been the time to build a new stadium. Maybe we can just move to county stadium.

It doesn't help watching the NCAA regionals and every single host has better facilities than we do. I honestly don't get it. One area our athletic department has failed miserably the last 20-25 years. It is embarrassing

Why not start a capital campaign and target donors who aren't being exhausted for NIL. I am sure there are baseball guys out there who maybe don't want to contribute to football or basketball NIL. Heck, maybe Rodon or Trea would want a stadium named after them to kickstart a capital campaign.

Not to add fuel to the fire but I spent all last weekend at the Coastal Carolina regional and man….. what a fantastic ballpark they have. It's first class. Obviously there is a lot to like in that park but the one thing that I thought was awesome was the way that they have an elevated walkway all the way around the outfield fence. It connected to the rest of the ballpark but you could walk all the way around or you could just go out there and stand. It also overlooks the bullpens. Coastal was able to sell standing room only tickets and man it created a really cool atmosphere and environment.
Just a thought for the Doak.

Agree. One of my favorite ballparks.

Sullivan and that whole corridor will all be bulldozed and rebuilt within the next 5 years . They should tie that new project into the Doak . It would take a lot of fill dirt but if they raise the grade around the left field side they could do a lot of things to enhance the stadium - especially for students - left field bleachers - beer garden etc and provide that element that Coastal has .

Pretty sure both Rodon and Trea have donated at least six figures towards the current Doak renovations. Wouldn't be surprised to see their names (if they want them) on the new batting cages and/or pitching lab.

It's kind of silly to talk about a capital campaign for a new stadium before the current renovations are complete. That's just not happening. I don't know how you sell that to the existing donors.

The Doak hasn't been managed well as others have stated and yeah we all wish it could happen now and I'm sure it will at some point in the future but you should probably get your head out of the sand and live in reality right now.

I'm fine with us having a small ball park, but I think it should at least look nice. Our stadium just looks like it's from the 80s.

As already stated Trea and Rodon have already dropped 6 figures (Trea dropped $1.5M for BB and Gymnastics). Let's face it. The 2004 renovations were done wrong. It was an improvement over what we had but still wasn't done right. We you start off with a stadium that didn't even have lights until the mid 90's you're in trouble. We will never have a SEC type stadium unless we build a completely new stadium and there's no place to put one on campus. But we should have something mid ACC. Every school has invested in their BB stadiums except Syracuse and SMU of course.

Love how EA said you can't sit still, you gotta keep building and improving. Thats what happened in 2004. We upgraded and then sat still for 20 years and now we're behind everyone else.

Just really unfortunate that he'll probably be retired before we have a respectable stadium.

Great video - from a year ago. It is seriously time for them to put out a new one with an update on what will be completed during the off season. And Avent mentions 'riding off into the sunset...when is that happening?

When he's ready by all accounts. He wants to see the last 2 phases completed I know.

I've searched and can't find an update on the renovations that are scheduled for this off season. Can someone help me out?

Are they planning to complete everything before next season? Have some items been dropped or added? Is it fully funded? Thanks

Currently in Phase 2, work for which was ongoing during the season. I don't believe the project will be completed in its entirety before next season. More than the original goal was raised, but costs increased, and latest approval is for 20M budget. To my knowledge, nothing has been added or dropped.

After 1.5 years went by without any update on the renovations, Ben Broussard sent out an email to donors a year ago after the 2024 Raleigh Regional that provided very few actual updates. Then the last social media/website update I've seen was from December 2024. Per the website:

Projects In Progress
  • Batting Facility
  • Relocating Rightfield Light Poles
  • Team Performance Center
  • Team Locker Rooms
  • Team Lounge
  • Pitching Lab
Future Phases
  • Team Weight Room
  • Concession Upgrades
  • Premium Seating Options
  • Entertainment Spaces
  • Expanded Concourse

Again, totally understand that delays happen with any project - especially in the type of financial environment all construction projects are facing right now - but the communication around this has been really poor. We waited 7 months after the 2021 CWS run to announce the project/start fundraising and then have routinely gone 12+ months between any kind of updates on funding, construction progress, etc. Even if we'd run into delays, by not continuing to promote this project at the park, in social media postings, etc., you're not even giving yourself the opportunity to continue fundraising to either add to the project or more fully fund the increased project costs. This project has been largely out of the public eye now for 2-3 years.

And outside of the already announced renovations, why we haven't ever staged Lee Field as space for fans before/during baseball games is beyond me. It wouldn't require a massive capital raise to put some food trucks, beer tents, and extra restrooms out there during at least a couple of ACC series when the weather warms up and people are looking for something to do on weekends. Just copy what was done with the Raleighwood space at Carter-Finley for football games and pre-game basketball events. Unless you're a big time NC State fan, there's nothing to entice you to attend games at Doak from a fan amenities/experience point of view. Massive missed opportunity given that there's no other college/pro ball specifically in Raleigh and the only sport you're competing against at that time in the calendar is the Canes (although those tickets are an entirely different price point).

My guess - player specific enhancements completed by next season (spring).

Stadium - fan enhancements completed 2027-2030.

Holy cow. I would just scrap the stadium improvements and keep raising money to do something bigger. I have said it before college baseball is a growth sport. We should do this right and not half ass.

I would hope /think the delay has more to do with what's about to happen to all the dorms behind the stadium . There is a University wide master plan about to kick into high gear . It's gonna be construction city from 2027-2033 from around Pullen Park all the way to the Doak.

And at this point, I would think you have to see the project through regardless. You can't take money that people donated for one project and use it for something different. Maybe most of those of us who donated to the improvements would be ok if it were used to fund a new stadium, but I would think there would be logistical/legal issue with just doing that.

I think in the end it will be better than what was originally proposed it's just going to take longer . Think about it logistically - they can only tear down one dorm at a time because they still need those rooms to house students.

IF we are all still alive in 2030 we will probably all be very happy with what the area around Lenovo and the Doak - surrounding corridor etc looks like .

Every number I've found suggests that baseball does not make profit. It isn't as far from it as some other sports, but I posted the report from last year on another thread recently. I've found the numbers on multiple occasions from multiple reports over the years, and none suggested baseball was making anything over operating expenses. Perhaps all those budget reports are wrong, I dunno perhaps it varies by year.
