Honestly, what's the point in posting every other colleges baseball facility improvements? I come on this thread to see what's going on with Doak and every other post is someone else's facility. I can't speak for everyone but it's pretty tiring. Most of us don't care what everyone else is building.
Some people expect the new facilities to pop up overnight for whatever reason. Not exactly how the real world works.
But what's the point of posting every other school in the countries facility upgrades? Is it just to show how inept we are?

The way Avent and our baseball program have been treated with regard to facilities is criminal.

Yow (tried) royally f'd up our baseball program. Shoutout to Avent and staff for keeping us competitive, and then some, but all of this should have been done 10 years ago.
This could have started 30 years ago under Tanner when someone wanted to donate to the program and Todd Turner blocked it. Doak didn't even get lights until 1995
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.

Just finished browsing through the recent comments on some of the Doak Field renovation news - or lack thereof. I only intermittently visit IPS, but mainly visit for baseball news - so this is a long post - and definitely a bit of a rant.

I get that it sounds like some delays were encountered that pushed the timeline back to where they're now hoping to have completion of the improvements down the LF line by the start of the 2026 season. That's what was indicated in the WPC email from earlier this year, but that's the only real update that's been provided on this since before the start of the 2023 season.

Based on what was announced in Jan 2022 for the first 3 phases, the total cost was supposed to be $15M - and anything raised in excess of that could potentially be allocated to future phases that would have to be added. At this point, we're 2.5 years past that. The funding tracker on the website sat at $14.7M raised for over a year and only recently has been updated to funding being 100% completed at $15M. We don't know if we raised exactly $15M - or more than that, if the costs ballooned to a point where we needed additional funding to complete the initial plans, if anything of note will be done before the 2025 season, etc. And aside from a simple QR code on the back of the press box, we didn't even promote the renovations with any kind of virtual or physical advertising at games during the 2024 season - or across the athletic department's social media pages. IMO, emails with a link to the Doak donation page should've been in everyone's inboxes at multiple points during the 2024 season and CWS run.

It's wild to me that we can't just sit an intern in front of a computer for 2 hours to write something up on GoPack.com that simply says: (1) here's what the initial plan was, (2) here's why that hasn't happened yet, (3) here's the current plan, (4) here's our new estimated timeline, and (5) here's where the project's overall funding stands. When asked about a status on the project earlier this summer, Boo's response was just that "dirt was moving".

People willingly donated their $ to this project - and plenty of others were locked into donating through their season ticket purchases. Delays happen, that's fine. Just communicate that to your donors. Why would anyone feel excited about giving their $ to this project - or any other capital project - when State cannot even provide the donors/fanbase any tangible updates over a 2.5+ period?

Thank you

Glass, what was Tanner's reasoning?

Don't think it was Tanner that blocked the upgrade on the gift to pay for lights. It was the athletic director that would not allocate the money for the lights.

To wroncsu's point, we raised $15 million with minimal effort and then just stopped trying. If you promote the hell out of it it may have been $25 million. I think Avent has just been taken advantage of. He's been way more patient than any other coach would have been in his shoes.

It has been reported that we raised $20M. They just never updated the counter on the website.

So we raised 20 million when we half-assed ran a capital campaign to raise 15 million........but our fans are too cheap

At some point Boo and Broussard need to be held accountable for this. We've raised 20 million dollars for this baseball facility and everything is radio silent on when things will progress.

Has anyone called or emailed Boo or others to get the updates that you demand? Pretty sure those guys aren't on IPS, but maybe if you contact them, they'll tell you personally that the next portion of the work will begin after next season, like they've said previously.

I prefer Boo to be proactive and issue reasonable project updates. If 15 of us call Boo and get a personalized update all 15 of us will post 15 different versions of the update. You know how that works.

Maybe IPS can schedule a Zoom call with Boo or another representative and they can discuss the project. Hell, set up a Zoom call for people willing to pay $50 or more to the baseball NIL to listen to an update and a few Q&A's.

I don't know how many season tickets we have at Doak each season, but individually emailing Boo or Boussard shouldn't be the expectation when the fees for Doak renovations have been layered into season ticket prices for 3 years now.

They set up a project update page in January 2022 and regularly posted fundraising/construction updates for the first year of the project. Since then, it's been pretty much silent as to any actual updates. Something obviously changed during 2023.

I did email the WPC about this over a year ago. The response I got was to call Broussard. I called once, went to voicemail. Didn't bother again after that. Playing phone tag isn't an effective way to show your donors they actually care about informing you about what your $ is ultimately going towards.

I highly doubt that $20mil that was earmarked for a baseball project and had to go through state legislation got spent on something else

Especially when a portion of it has already been spent on the renovations that have already been completed. They did the field, scoreboard, and bullpens. The player amenities were supposed to be started after that, but it was reported that there were logistical problems that pushed it back. The updated plan budgeting for the extra money that was raised was just re-approved by the BOG in the middle of this year.

Yep. But not fast enough for some. Or it's just not going to happen (completely wrong). But to each their own

To me, it's not a matter of if/when these renovations will occur. I do think they'll continue to work on what was initially presented in January 2022. However, NCSU has not only provided incredibly vague messaging as to what's gone on with these renovations since February 2023, but we've also seemingly stopped promoting the renovations to the general fanbase. Why not continue marketing these renovations through emails, social media, at games, etc. and attempt to continue raising $ in excess of the originally stated $15M goal? Especially when you just had a CWS run in 2024?

I'm sure additional fundraising is still happening with big $ donors behind the scenes, and clearly there was additional BOG funding added, but there is a night and day difference with how we promoted these renovations to the fanbase at-large between Jan 2022-Feb 2023 and then from Feb 2023-Dec 2024.

After that initial announcement in Jan 2022, I had many friends who I would hardly call Pack9 die-hard fans tell me that they'd donated $ because of the momentum the program had after the 2021 CWS run. These are the type of fans that aren't going to continue to donate unless you give them a reason to keep donating. Hell, I have season tickets, and I watch most of the games each season, and I personally don't feel inclined to donate to this project again outside of my season ticket fees.

They raised $20 million instead of the stated goal of $15. That is why the project is behind. They raised too much money and got caught in governmental crap to get changes approved. At least that's my read on it. I'm going over to WPC on Monday to drop off a check, I'll see if I can get an update and share
wroncsu
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I saw the report last year that mentioned something about too much $ being raised, but they didn't update the $15M fundraising tracker on the project website for over a year and only recently updated it to show $15M raised, and that funding was complete, before that tracker was removed from the page. We have no idea where that fundraising figure actually stands now or what the current budgeted cost for the overall project is either. The only new update to that page is that a groundbreaking for team facilities is scheduled for sometime in Dec 2024.

Since this project was announced in 2022, construction and financing costs have both exploded across the country. Broussard and Corrigan's very minor updates this year also mentioned issues run into over the course of the planned construction. With all that being taken into consideration, I wouldn't be shocked to see that any additional $ from the BOG or from fans in excess of that initial $15M figure would simply be used to cover cost increases associated with the original plan announced in January 2022.

Regardless, it would be great to actually hear something official from the department or WPC on what the plans and current timeline/fundraising look like given that 2 full seasons have passed since the last visible update was made to Doak. Still find it really odd that we made a CWS this year and no efforts were made on social media or over email to market the fundraising for this project to the fanbase like we had done from Jan 2022-Feb 2023.
