Y'all are correct regarding Southern National. They still have races there but the schedule has tapered off the last few years to only a handful of events. The Thanksgiving Classic is still a big event and they've hosted a few Cars Tour late model events. But, the seasonal racing has basically dwindled to nothing.
Wake County is always fun.
Another good venue is New River All American in Jacksonville. I know it's a few hours for you guys but some good racing. The Cars Tour will be back there in March. That's always a good race.
Now that you mention it, I forgot about the Cars Tour running at SNS. Do you know if it's car count or is it a promotion thing with SNS?
Ownership. Dude puts it out there that he's trying so hard to get racers to come but the bottom line is he's just an ass and people don't like going there.
Interesting.
That is interest. Good info WP
I don't know how else to explain it. I've dealt with him a few times in the last 10 years. It's 50/50. You never know what you'll get from him.
He tries to promote it but nothing ever works. Place is always dead unless it's the Cars Tour or the Thanksgiving Classic, which only had 24 Late Models I believe. That ain't good for that race.
New River and Carteret aren't too far away I'm sure that hurts. I don't know how else to explain it.
I went all the time as a kid in the early to mid 90's. Went back from 2017 to 2023 as much as I could. Just dead.
In general car counts aren't great in this area. I know NASCAR and some promotors are trying to work out a deal , that tracks have the same specs and rules, to help the teams. I've also been told, that some promotors are trying to not race on the same night, as to not effect car counts. I know Wake dropped the Mod 4's a couple of years ago due to low car counts each week.
I remember back in the mid to late 70's Wilson County would run their LMS "Southern 200" in mid November. there would be cars from NC, SC, Va, Fla, and Ga. All for maybe a $2,500 top prize. I know it's a different era but it was still a big draw and there wasn't a touring division for LMS back then. Dad would race at Wake County on Friday night and then Wilson County on Saturday night
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em.
