Why has Kevin McCarthy not withdrawn from the House Speaker’s race after six failed attempts to win the post?
— Frank Gaffney (@frankgaffney) January 5, 2023
It may have less to do with his notorious lust for power than self-preservation.https://t.co/WVqPsEvg1n

Trump twice. Was all in in 2016. Was still on board in 2020 but not as excited. Never thought in a million years the Dem ploy would work in 2020 but thanks to Covid it did. A vegetable got elected over Trump. I was pretty much done after that. His ranting and raving and all the drama with it no longer was worth the good things that were done. And it became clear to me that you can't change our soulless corrupt gov't with one person or one administration. The world is heading in one direction all together. Covid taught me that corrupt people in power collaborate from all over the world.caryking said:Alum, did you vote for Trump or Biden?ncsualum05 said:So Trump is supposed to be the anti-establishment type and here he is all in on McCarthy which the conservatives/ non establishment types are blocking right? I hate the democrat party. I can't stand their playbook. But the GOP is just stupid and basically does nothing other than talk in hyperbolic platitudes. Each year debt grows, gov't grows, taxes get more unfair, socialism nutjobs and cancel culture continue, and on and on. I pay more attention to local community things and economics in general now vs. politics.

I think we're all better off if we stop believing in government and start doing things for ourselves to survive and maybe thrive. Everything in DC and in politics is about money.... everything. Geopolitics is no different. Things get resolved internationally over wealth transfers and enrichments.caryking said:Alum, so much in your post, I support...ncsualum05 said:Trump twice. For me, this 20-21 people group is calling into question exactly what your second paragraph states. 20 years ago, I started questioning the Wall Street class and the value they really bring to our country. Stock traders getting rich, off our money. That ultimately led to me looking into political figures. Well, the same thing was going on.
This country is in such a bad place that it makes it sad. I applaud the group of 20 and wish the group of 201 would see things the same way. The question is: why not? My suspicion is, MONEY!
That, I agree with...ncsualum05 said:I think we're all better off if we stop believing in government and start doing things for ourselves to survive and maybe thrive. The Congress does another vote late tonight. Some Dems will leave. All they need is three to not show up.
The final six will hold the line; however, the number McCarthy will need is 216. He currently has 214 with two Republicans that have been out of town. The two show up tonight and McCarthy will get elected!

The real threat to the future of our country are the people (apparently, the majority) who have not been properly informed about what's really going on, and therefore are making bad decisions.jkpackfan said:

I didn't see it as an embarrassment at all... who care's if it wasn't easy? It's done, and nobody should be upset that it went through an actual process instead of just getting rubber stamped and pushed on through... it worked out the way that I originally thought that it would, and now that I have watched this in real time, the way that I now realize was the best end result for the immediate national future of the Republican party.jkpackfan said:

In 14 votes no one walked in with late-breaking ballots.
No one voted early
No one voted late.
No mules showed up in the middle of the night.
Everyone who voted has an ID.
Novel concept. pic.twitter.com/sdna7GCY5i

Just read about the history of the house rules, then understand what been happening for too long. Once you have clarity, you should be applauding the action of this embarrassment!!
If not, well…
So by what logic does someone call several days of ballots for Speaker of the House “dysfunctional,” but several weeks of counting election ballots “democracy in action?”
