Should be a very interesting weekend off racing. Plenty of storylines.. hopefully the weather holds and they get all three in. Starting with Xfinity tonight.

Just weird that on one hand you have Jimmie Johnson at the cut off line to make the playoffs during his final season and on the other is Chad Knauss as the crew chief trying to beat him.

What time does the NASCAR race start today?
Race: Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway
Date: Saturday, Aug. 29
Start time: 7:30 p.m. ET
The green flag for Saturday night's NASCAR Cup Series race at Daytona will wave shortly after 7:30 p.m. ET, assuming there are no rain delays as there have been so often since NASCAR returned to live racing in May.

The good news regarding the weather for Saturday night's race is that summer conditions in central Florida are relatively predictable, barring the threat of a tropical storm. Late afternoon thunderstorms are common in the area, which is why the Daytona road course race a couple weeks ago was delayed, but the weather systems typically clear in the evening.

Daytona has lights, and this race in 2015 ran into the early morning hours after a lengthy rain delay. NASCAR has plenty of flexibility if weather becomes an issue Saturday night.

The Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona is scheduled for 160 laps and must reach the halfway point to be considered official.

What channel is NASCAR on today?
TV channel: NBC
Live stream: NBC Sports Go | fuboTV (7-day free trial)
NBC Sports will broadcast a NASCAR Cup Series race on its flagship cable network NBC for just the third time this season. Which is fitting for the regular-season finale and what generally is one of the most exciting races of the season.

plus

STAGE LENGTHS (laps per stage): Stage 1: 50, Stage 2: 50, Stage 3: 60.

PLAYOFFS: There are 16 playoff positions and 14 are spoken for heading into Saturday night's race. There are three drivers on the bubble, battling for two playoff positions based on points. Matt DiBenedetto, in 15th, leads William Byron by five points and seven-time Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson by nine points. If the race is won by a driver who has not already qualified for the playoffs, only one playoff berth will remain available by points.

Johnson was talking about that before one of the races last weekend.

NASCAR being NASCAR, they will either get Johnson in top 16 or change the rules for playoff

Another crazy finish at Daytona. Phenomenal that the 3 cars ostensibly racing each other for the playoff were all 3 running side by side when the first of the late cautions came out.

Game of inches -- Byron narrowly escaped that first wreck despite being on the top of the track, and then had plenty of contact as he squeezed thru Lagano / Bubba just before the last one. Either of those could/should have been the end of his night / playoff chase, but he made it thru both.

I know the restrictor plate is frustrating for the drivers and teams spend a crapload of money on damaged cars.....but there are not many better viewing spectacles in sports than the night race at Daytona, with all those cars lumped together and dodging around under the lights.

That was a pretty awesome night of racing regardless of how the ratings turn out.

THAT was an awesome race. Daytona is always one of my faves but last night was pretty darned special. Sick that Jimmie didn't make it in.

If you haven't been in the stands and seen a race at Daytona, I highly recommend it. Have been to 7 Daytona 500's. The sound and the speed of the cars is something to enjoy.

.@NBC earned a 2.41 rating/nearly 3.9 million viewers for last night's #CokeZeroSugar400.

No direct comp because '19 regular-season finale was Brickyard 400 and '19 summer Daytona was weather-impacted.

NBC says regular-season viewership up 2% if excluding Kansas midweek. https://t.co/nB5nAn8QAo

Very interesting. Would love for them to get the funding to compete with the big boys.

Wonder if Brad Daugherty is the nascar guy, and if he has the disposable $$$ to become a major backer?
Music industry guess would be a currently wealthy rapper, perhaps.

Paul - In 2021 NASCAR is changing to a single lug nut and a larger wheel. In addition to speeding up pit stops, it will change the look of the car. I think it will be a good change and for performance.

Busy day..happy that Smithfield is staying in the sport. Also, like the throw back tires.

If they really want to throw back, then bring Hoosier tires back for a few races also.
