don't fully understand going after Fruit. 2 years at EMU and he has a 6.86 ERA in 85 innings with a 83/47 K/BB and .305 BAA. Not quite sure ANY of that translates to the ACC. The kid might have a chance, but at what point do you try to develop a Win Scott, Dienes, Halford, etc. because I am willing to bet those kids would have better numbers than that. Or do you just admit you missed on some kids after their freshman year and just get older at any cost?

thompson on the other hand has JUCO numbers that look like Lawsons. Big stuff (14.46 k/9) and not many hits against him, just has to control it some

It's like this for me...this kid has some legit stuff, pitched in the Cape last summer and you're not bringing him in to be a starter (just like Justin Lawson who had awful numbers last year at Bossier). I argued last off season that Lawson wouldn't be a starter either and would excel as a middle reliever (I don't think I was wrong). This Fruit kid could close as well but could give a team 2-4 innings as needed. EMU stinks and I'm sure that played into his inflated numbers as well. I dug into some of his box scores and he and EMU fell apart late in a chunk of games.

I guess I'm not sure why we can't bring in a kid like Fruit while still developing the Scott's, Dienes and Halford's of the staff. We need to bring in as many arms as possible. I have zero issues with kicking the tires on a kid like Fruit.

Thanks. Most of those make sense. Hudson was supposed to be a decent arm and was regularly 93-94 in the fall, not sure why he didn't get much PT. and IIRC Griesbauer was coming back from injury

sam had TJ towards the end of his HS career (missed most of, if not all, of his senior year). so health could have played a factor as to why he didn't play/is leaving

Apparently he's a versatile kid that can play the corner INF positions as well as 2B.

Little would be a monster addition. He held his own as a 17 year old in the SEC and had another solid season this year. Sullivan looks like he'd be a very solid add too.

IMO, going forward, we could use another guy to compete for a MIF spot. Another 3-4 arms, preferably 1 that could start in a pinch (or compete for a weekend spot) and a closer type. Also think we need to try to add a couple lefties too. Of course, a lot couple change after the draft too.
