Know what you mean. I'm doing some local track stuff this weekend. TrackPass is also great to get your fix in.

NASCAR has penalized the Hendrick Motorsports teams of reigning Cup champion Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman for engine allocation infractions at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Elliott's No. 9 team and Bowman's No. 48 were found in violation of a rule that covers engine assembly.

A statement from Hendrick Motorsports released Thursday said the violations were the result of an administrative error that resulted in a sealed engine assigned to Elliott's No. 9 Chevrolet being unintentionally allocated to the No. 48.

Competition officials also deducted 25 points from each team's total in both the driver and team owner standing. Elliott's crew chief Alan Gustafson and Bowman's crew chief Greg Ives each was fined $50,000.

The penalty drops Elliott from fifth to sixth in the Cup series standings. Bowman remains 11th in points.

NASCAR also issued suspensions to Hendrick Motorsports executive vice president and general manager Jeff Andrews and the organization's director of track engine support Scott Maxim for the next Cup event, at Watkins Glen on Aug. 8.

.@NASCAR's review with teams of the potential number switch is in the final stages, and barring a late change, it's likely that the decal will be moved, specifically forward, starting next season, per sources.

An announcement could come within weeks.

I just question how hard it is to drive these race cars now a days when a guy can hop right in and dominate. I dont think Ty Gibbs would have been able to do what he is doing now if it had been, say 1991 or so....those cars were so much harder looking to drive. Look at the in-cars and how much they had to work the steering wheel compared to now. The learning curve was much steeper back then; drivers didnt just hop right in and dominate.

Technology has undoubtedly improved the ability of the driver to command the car. Still, the driver has to have the senses to understand what is going on around him and make the right moves at the right time. No one to my knowledge, besides Dale, has ever been able to "see air" and make things happen.

well when Ty Norris tells it, he said Dale didnt say he could see the air, but that he could feel the air...which is why he preferred the open face helmet.

yea but compared to the 90's, just before this high downforce era, I just dont think it looks as difficult from the in cars. Not saying it isnt hard, just not as difficult as it once was...or at least appears that way to me.

and you just see drivers having success so much earlier in their career compared to in the past too but that could be a result of a few different things.
