.@GanassiChip says that being able to sell his charters on the way out of NASCAR team ownership has been a big help to him: "Very much so. That adds to the asset base of the team. Without the charter system, all you're selling is a bunch of used cars, the building and equipment." https://t.co/gJIrdesWD7

I just disagree with the charter system. All this does is take the small team out of the market for expansion... I heard Dale Jr. say it keeps him out of moving to the big series.

@UniWatch Throughout NASCAR history there have been various conspiracy theories, driver shenanigans and weird decisions made by officials. The latest oddity is that an ad showing Kyle Larson championship merchandise aired before he won the championship. #NASCAR #NASCARPlayoffs

It is kinda weird how the championship 4 always seem to be the best 4 cars in the finale. What's the odds? Also, I happened to be away from the TV. Did they ever show a replay of the wreck that brought out that last caution?

Dover sold

If I'm being honest, I expected this to happen…in 2002. What a run by the Dover Motorsports folks, who stayed alive despite being surrounded by a pair of much larger track ownership behemoths for a very long time. #NASCAR https://t.co/yDjIIHii95

Speedway Motorsports Acquisition Of Dover Motorsports Is A Bigger Deal To Nascar Fans Than They Imagine

With the merger, Speedway Motorsports will own 12 tracks that hold NASCAR sanctioned events. NASCAR itself owns 14. The remaining 13 remaining tracks are split among nine companies and Curtis Francois who owns World Wide Technology Raceway in Maidson, Illinois which he bought as Gateway International Raceway from Dover Motorsports in 2011.

For most NASCAR fans Monday's news about the merger is little more than a headline. As part of NASCAR's future however, the merger could have a great deal to do with how race schedules will be laid out in the future.

When sanctioning agreements are signed track owners can move dates around to the tracks they own.

RIP Delma Cowart

Delma Cowart, the colorful independent driver known for his valiant low-budget attempts to qualify for the Daytona 500, has died. He was 80.
Cowart's passing was reported by his daughter on social media.
"Somebody asked me about my career once," Cowart said in a 1998 interview with the Associated Press. "I told him I never won a race, but I never lost a party."

Cowart leaves the sport with a legacy of colorful quotes and sayings.

"One time, my spotter asked me about a wreck in Turn 2 and I told him, 'what wreck?' By the time I got around to it, they'd had plenty of time to clean it all up."
"The Lord watches over idiots and drunks. So I had 'em covered on both ends."
"It's pretty simple. All the big races pay the most money, and if you luck up and win the race, well, last place pays about $48,000. And Lord knows I can use the money. I've got three ex-wives. I'm so broke, I can't pay attention."
"I just smashed it to the floor and told the good Lord that if He'd help me get through Turns 1 and 2, I'd take it from there."
"You know I never get down about it all. This is a dream that came true for me and for my guys, too. The worst crime you can commit is never to try."

@NASCAR's 2021 season-long average viewership:

If including the weather-impacted Daytona 500: 2.930 million, off slightly from 3.058M in '20 and 3.110M in '19.

If excluding Daytona (so races Nos. 2-36): 2.866 million, basically flat from '20 (2.906M) and '19 (2.871M). https://t.co/Pgj82YDkzE
