Agree 100%. SportsCenter called it the Daytona 530... 30 extra miles, what a damn joke.

I also don't like that laps are being counted during stage stoppage…

I don't mind the OT. I just don't think the extra miles should hurt teams - ie, pit crews shouldn't have to plan for 10 extra laps of fuel. Though I'm not sure how you work around that (free pit to refuel and revert to your original position??)

As for the stages, Daytona probably doesn't matter as much because they stay packed, but it does create some "artificial" competition to pick up the points for winning stages. In a 400/500 mile 4 hour event, that is not a bad thing

The Daytona 500 posted only a modest decline in ratings and viewership, but that was still enough to make it one of the least-watched ever.

Sunday's Daytona 500 averaged a 4.4 rating and 8.17 million viewers on FOX, down 7% in ratings and 8% in viewership from last year (4.7, 8.87M) and the third-smallest audience ever for the race. Only the rain-affected races in 2020 (4.4, 7.33M) and 2021 (2.8, 4.91M) averaged fewer viewers.

The six smallest Daytona 500 audiences on record have come in the past six years. (For the full list of Daytona 500 ratings dating back to 1979, see the following link.)

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. Jim Valvano.

Exact same with Michigan. And frankly, though I know it's not one of the big tracks - New Hampshire

In today's fluffed-up watered down version of NASCAR post-2001 he is good. He would have had his ass handed to him by a number of drivers back then and would have never made it on the circuit.

Him winning for the last 19 years tells you all you need to know about why NASCAR is on life support.

Don't disagree with most of what you posted but Busch can drive a car. I've seen him crash without crashing. As some that has actively watched since 1967 he'd do ok. His attitude is as close to being off the rails as anyone. Joe Gibbs took him down several notches

No doubt he can drive. I spent several years in the pits with the drivers and teams in Rockingham. Attended Sunday morning church service in the garage with the pit crew members, families of drivers and teams and there was one common denominator. Drivers will police themselves.

One established driver who had won 15+ races including The Winston 2x, along with a few up and comers, around '96-'97 made it a habit of having a big party Saturday after the Busch race. Those parties started drawing bigger and bigger crowds.

A few of the drivers stepped in and put a stop to it. And they did it on the track.

Kyle can drive a car. Also, NASCAR isn't on life support. It's competitive. Heck, Petty won a lot in his day with at times stealing from the poor with being sponsored and having his own engine builder. Not very impressive in winning by multiple laps.

Agreed.
LOL, i hate Kyle as much as any driver I've ever watched, but to suggest he would not have made it in previous eras is dumb.
He'd have been fine back then. Sure, he may have gotten his a whipped a few times, but he has in this era too, and it never really stopped him from doing his thing.

I truly can't stand him. And know things about him that would make you hate him more than you do. But Kyle Busch is one of the most talented people to sit behind a wheel and to say he wouldn't have made it back then is inaccurate.
