My boys will be happy. I'm not an NBA fan and didn't watch a whole game last year.....but they love that studio show that Barkley is a part of....and he seems to be taking on "iconic" level status from his role there.
I do enjoy seeing him comment and and participate in golf though....the world needs more comic relief, and he brings it.

BTW. I was not a fan of Trump's comments about the PGA Tour last week... yes, I think it was BS that the major got pulled from his course a couple of years ago - but I also think this was one of those times where he would have been best served to keep his mouth shut.

See there, Chem? Most of us don't go through this with blinders on after all...

Ok, I just read Trumps comments…. I think he should have left that one alone. Bedminster did get pulled from the PGA and it was a BS move, on their part; however, no need to make any comments, other than:

we liked to thank the LIV tour for selecting this marvelous golf course. I'm excited to be here and participating in the festivities today. Let's all have a great tournament!

Any questions about the Saudi's…. Many US companies have business dealings with the Saudi's.

Now, the disingenuous people, that support the PGA, or the PGA itself have ties to the CCP and nobody call that into question…. Why do you think that so?

Henrik Stenson proves he made the right decision and won by 2 shots over Dustin Johnson and Matthew Wolff. After the round he was asked about how he played with all the turmoil the last two weeks and Stenson, ever the wit, said "I played like a Captain." He led from start to finish and played a lot like he did at the Open Championship in 2016. His biggest year ever on the PGA tour was a little over $6 million. He made about 4 1/2 million this weekend as his team finished in second.

Johnson made a putt on 18 for birdie that was worth over half a million dollars plus his team won the team title as well, so another $750,000 for each member. Wolff shot a 64 today and played really well.

This quick post-win interview with Tony Finau is why the PGA Tour has the stuff that LIV can never approach. This guy was grinding on mini-tours for years making nothing, amd even now, virtually nothing is guaranteed for him on the PGA Tour if he does not so well enough

Contrast to some guy name Jediah Morgan on the LIV Tour who finished 30th, 48th, and 48th out of only 48 golfers over 3 events and still won nearly $400k

Chem, in general, I agree with you...

My problem with the PGA is that some of those guys grinding to make a living is part of it; however, a non-profit CEO making 15M/year just looks exceedingly egregious when players, like you said, are grinding it out...

Not that I'm a fan of LIV; rather, it looks like, at some point, they will get a piece of the action, to be part of the tour... To me, It's kind of like the NCAA making so much money when the conferences and universities scramble to get TV deals to help their programs.

BTW, I believe in a free market; unfortunately, we, as consumers, allow the free market to run amuck with this type of stuff...

Are you referring to the commissioner? If so, every major sport commissioner makes a ton of money. I don't understand that, but it seems common. The players though --- every year guys who've done well on the PGA in the past get bumped back to the Korn Ferry tour and do all that on their own dime, not a team's funding. That can be tough.

As for LIV....I'm still amazed how angry the golf media is about it. Collectively, they have clearly removed all professional pretenses of performing their jobs and just pile on everything about LIV. The current format of LIV does not appeal to me at all, but they've absolutely gotten a lot of more publicity from the media than from the guys playing.

Alright a law suit has been filed against the PGA Tour by 11 golfers who are playing LIV Golf. Everybody knew it was going to happen and now the lawyers will be cashing some big checks.

Your guys will either lose completely, or they will get the $3.00 (treble damages) that the USFL got when they sued the NFL back in the '80's...

So they wanted to play less, and weren't motivated by the money, until they realized they weren't going to be able to play more and possibly win more money? Is that what I'm reading here?

It certainly is. And frankly, I have no issue with them wanting cake and eating it too. You can't be told yes if you don't ask.
I do however, find it funny that so many of these guys used "family time" and "play less" as justifications for leaving, instead of just being honest....they are going to LIV because its great money. And if they could make even more money, they'll do that too, family time be damned.

Now, the fact Bryson nad Phil are involved in the lawsuit makes me want it to fail miserably.

Like most things with sports likes/dislikes, its sports-based. I'm assuming he's a fine guy to be around, I know he's cerebral and has a great knowledge of the history/greats of the game.

He just rubs me the wrong way with the things he says/way he says them. I think he has taken to heart that he is come kind of revolutionary of the game....in a game that doesn't really need it. While he is no Patty Reed, he has had some run ins with the rules that make me question him.

Nearly every interview with a LIV official has the same talking point: The PGA Tour's viewership is sinking, and its audience is dying.

That doesn't tell the whole story.

Also LIV lawyers made a few statements during the court session that directly contradict things that LIV PR and Greg Norman have been saying all year. Notably, tournament winnings are recouped by LIV against the contracts signed by the players. Which essentially means the guys that got the big deals from LIV have literally zero incentive to play well or win because they wont win any money from the tournaments.

Edit:

Also a particularly damning quote by the Judge considering one of the arguments by LIV players is the restrictive practices of the PGA Tour,

"These LIV contracts lock up these players in ways the PGA Tour never imagined. They are so restrictive".

LIV will fail or will be a shell of itself, in a few years (my prediction). And, the PGA needs to do something about its NCAA type structure.

I would like to see a healthy PGA; however, too much power is given to a non-profit…

Patrick Reed is the latest member of LIV Golf to turn from the course to the courts, as the 2018 Masters champion filed a defamation lawsuit against Golf Channel and commentator Brandel Chamblee on Tuesday.

The claim central to Reed's complaint is that Chamblee and Golf Channel conspired with the PGA Tour and commissioner Jay Monahan to defame Reed "since he was 23 years old" -- nine years ago.

Reed's allegations include "misreporting information with falsity and/or reckless disregard of the truth, that is with actual and constitutional malice, purposely omitting pertinent key material facts to mislead the public, and actively targeting [Reed] to destroy his reputation, create hate, and a hostile work environment for him."

Don't get caught cheating multiple times on camera and then you don't have people having to talk about you cheating and questioning your character. Overall, Reed has nothing to complain about in my opinion.

Has there been a bigger heel in golf than Reed? Especially when you consider some of the actions of his wife and father-in-law, both of whom have been major thorns in the side of tour officials as well.

I'm not sure he's going to gather much sympathy from golf fans nor from any court jurors.

it couldn't get any more perfect than Reed hiring Larry Klayman for this lawsuit. Not only is he the king of frivolous lawsuits, but if you look back in his twitter he has some tweets that haven't aged too well considering who he's now representing.

Funny how the PGA Tour is changing now that LIV Golf has come around. Another one of the things Mickelson had been advocating for. Obviously the PGA is scared at this moment to be making these changes. It's a shame Jay Monohan wouldn't listen and maybe some of the acrimony could have been avoided.

Lots of reports out that Cam Smith and others. will be joining LIV after the Tour Championship.

It's an even bigger shame that "your boy" Phil will be on the outside looking in - and that he has essentially ruined his legacy in the process...

I hope you noted the words "The Masters", "The PGA Championship", "The US Open" and "The Open Championship"... but maybe you don't quite understand the gist as of yet.

None of the LIV Golf guys will be permitted to play in those events next year... better "saddle up", because that's what is coming.

It is an odd scenario. This is something Phil (and likely others) had been pushing for for years.

LIV came along and offered this -- at least initially, though signs are they'll tighten the screws on these guys some next year

The players who defected almost surely thought they'd be able to go back and forth.

The PGA Tour would not have done this (at least not yet) if LIV hadn't pulled in a handful of top-end players --- and surely the threat of more defecting was the impetus for the PGA to do it now.

And now the PGA Tour appears to stepping on the defectors even more, as I think the notion of beign blocked from the majors has been recognized and by committing right now that those guys are locked out of the majors, i think it'll limit more defections.

The golf media is celebrating this like they're getting paid a cut of the purses, lol.
