MLB DRAFT TRACKER: Wolfpack Players And Signees

The 2021 MLB Draft is ongoing and you can follow where all of NC State's players/signees are selected through the Inside Pack Sports Draft Tracker.

NC State is expected to have multiple players drafted in the three-day draft, which began on Sunday and will be televised on ESPN and the MLB network.

The first Wolfpack player selected was 2021 signee Kahlil Watson out of Wake Forest, North Carolina.  A dynamic shortstop prospect, Watson is the first North Carolina prep standout to be selected in the first round since another NC State signee, Wilmington (NC) New Hanover pitcher Blake Walston, was taken No. 26 by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2019.  

As expected, look for Watson to ink professionally and not play for NC State given his lofty draft projection.

Day 2 of the Draft begins Monday at 1 p.m. ET with the start of the second round and will continue through the completion of Round 10.  The Draft concludes with rounds 11-20 on Tuesday, starting at noon ET.

As each NC State player is drafted we will update the the tracker below so you can follow along throughout the weekend!

I feel like you are reading my mind today. Was strange to see Eisert not playing 1st in the Pack13 game--- that stuck out to me as well. His bat is supposed to be decent with some pop but we never really saw it in the limited opportunities this season. I too have concerns about Falsken and they all revolve around his bat. It doesn't have to be great, but it needs to be better than serviceable if he wants to stick in the lineup, especially with JT already filling the good bunter/lineup rollover spot.

I believe that Highfill was at first to get his bat in the lineup and be able to pitch in an emergency without losing the DH spot. If he was at DH and then pitched, and then had to come out of the game, we would've lost the DH spot. Before the game they showed the umpires talking to Avent, and the audio was them talking about the DH position. At least that's how I interpreted what happened, but I may be off base.

I had forgotten about this but I think you're correct. If State had gotten a lead highfill was coming in and then they would've lost the DH spot and literally could've run out of players

Lots of unknowns for next season. I will say that Soles and Eisert appear to be good players. Saw Eddie play in high school a number of times. I don't believe too many positions are settled on at this time. All should be given the opportunity. If Eisert and Soles have taken a step up this summer and fall, to become one of the 10 best on the team, then you find a spot for them. Even if that means a transfer or Frosh sits.

falsken is struggling with the bat with a small sample size. He has 12 Ks in 22 ABs and is hitting .182. Not inferring anything, but those aren't great numbers right now. His athleticism can play, and he can defensively play SS, but he needs to make consistent contact. To his credit, 3 of his 4 hits are extra base hits and he has drawn 4 walks for a .379 OBP, but for him to get PT he'll need to put the ball in play

Eisert is having a nice summer. 11 games, 25 ABs. 9 hits for a .360 average. 6 walks to 5 Ks, so a low K rate. .500 OBP with 4 stolen bases. On the flip side, all 9 of his hits have been singles, so not much pop being shown.

if my math is correct (it's probably not) the Royals have about $3,070,200 left to spend of their draft pool. They've paid two guys $10K over in the bottom half picks so far with the 11th and 17th (Luca) round picks not announced yet.

They still have a nice chunk of change of the pool left even if they pay slot to all the remaining guys. Normally I'd say the 8th rounder would get much less but it's a HS kid from PR so I have no idea what to expect there. He could get paid, no idea. He's signed so that number should be announced soon enough.

Joe Dunand- 2nd round pick (2 years at SS)
Logan Ratledge- 13th round pick (1 year at SS)
Trea Turner- 1st round pick (2 years at SS)

Not a bad lil run we've got going on. Even Logan Ratledge's SR was a big season for the one year he played SS.

The Pirates can do that bc they paid Henry Davis right at 2 mil under slot and picks 5-10 WELL under slot.

You talking about Mozzicato? He played HS ball in Connecticut so the competition wasn't exactly the greatest (Not a slight on him but definitely the competition he was playing).

He was definitely a surprise as a top 10 pick but he wasn't going to be difficult to sign so it made sense. He was more in the 35-50 range but the Royals liked him and he wasn't going to command over slot...made sense.
