MLB DRAFT TRACKER: Wolfpack Players And Signees

The 2021 MLB Draft is ongoing and you can follow where all of NC State's players/signees are selected through the Inside Pack Sports Draft Tracker.

NC State is expected to have multiple players drafted in the three-day draft, which began on Sunday and will be televised on ESPN and the MLB network.

The first Wolfpack player selected was 2021 signee Kahlil Watson out of Wake Forest, North Carolina.  A dynamic shortstop prospect, Watson is the first North Carolina prep standout to be selected in the first round since another NC State signee, Wilmington (NC) New Hanover pitcher Blake Walston, was taken No. 26 by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2019.  

As expected, look for Watson to ink professionally and not play for NC State given his lofty draft projection.

Day 2 of the Draft begins Monday at 1 p.m. ET with the start of the second round and will continue through the completion of Round 10.  The Draft concludes with rounds 11-20 on Tuesday, starting at noon ET.

As each NC State player is drafted we will update the the tracker below so you can follow along throughout the weekend!

No leverage and a complete outlier, breakout season. Risky to bet on replicating/improving 2021 for Tatum.

He was also a guy who I think considered leaving after last season.

16th round for a 4th year player? No brainer. When the draft was 40 rounds, 16 was considered a decent pick. It still is. Giving 4th year players (who played all 4 years) an extra year is a new thing. But in baseball, that 5th year is not leverage. These 22 year olds need to start playing professionally asap just for the slim chance it pans out.

Here are a couple draft signings that are somewhat of interest to us...


Royals save a nice chunk of change with this one but this was a surprise pick so it was pretty obvious that this was going to be a well below slot signing.



Orioles save some coin on their first rounder as well. They also saved a little over a hundred grand on their 2nd rounder too. They signed the Norby kid from ECU a lil bit under slot.

kid was committed to florida state, so i'm glad he's not in the ACC

Yessir, he is/was the elusive JUCO C commit. I assume he signs with the Rangers but we'll see.

So for kids like this how do they even afford to play minor league ball? Is there a minimum salary guys get or are they coming up with the money to just live as they travel around some other way? I know why the teams do it but man, pretty awful way to treat a potential employee

Honestly wonder if these kids have no intention of playing pro ball and are just signing so the teams don't lose the money.

There have been many articles on the realities of playing minor league ball. This isn't the one I was trying to find, but is pretty good. Unless some of these guys have someone backing them, most won't last very long.

Torres was the #1 ranked player in Maryland and Villaman was the #3 ranked player in NC. Neither were ranked as high nationally though.

I don't think that would be a knock on Green. Those two are really good and middle infielders

Not on PG's rankings. Brett was 53rd in that class.

No he's not that unathletic. He's a capable 3rd baseman but still needs to reshape his body and get a step quicker. He's ran a 7.05 60, so he's not some dude with 2 left feet

White could DH for a year (while also working on quickness and agility), Green could play 3rd and Hood at SS (assuming both of those guys make it in). The following season, Hood leaves, Green moves over to SS and White could plug right in at 3rd.

Who knows what will happen.

Tresh is going to be interesting....The Royals have signed all their late round guys but 11 (high school SS) and Tresh. They have left $2.1 million to spend to reach their cap. They are ready to announce number 2 pick ( high school pitcher and likely the #3 pick ( high school catcher)... If those are under, too.....they have extra dollars to throw at their two unsigned college guys. Alabama 2b a Comp. pick after the 2nd round and you guessed it, Tresh. He would be on a faster track to the majors than the high school guy so they would be smart to sign both. Tresh may get his dollars.

Where is Eisert going to play? He took infield at first but they put Highfill out there instead of Eisert against Vandy, while he was the DH (instead of Sam). Does Eddie have a position? 3rd? I don't know that he's a SS at this level.

Falsken is a 2B, IMO. Can he hit at this level?

No one knows anything about Marcy but if Hood and Green both sign we might get to know him pretty quickly.

E.Eisert11 can play anywhere in the infield and Same with C.Falsken30 and W.Macey is going to be a Good ballplayer

This is how I see it going as well. Wouldn't be shocked if White spends a year at DH
