Gabriella Broadfoot and Maddy Zampardo of the NC State women's tennis team fell to UCLA's Theadora Rabman and Tatum Evans, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship. The tandem has finished the fall slate with a 14-3 record.

Broadfoot and Zampardo dropped the first set, 6-2. The duo fought back in the second set to force a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, both sides went toe-to-toe until the UCLA pair closed things out with a 7-5 edge in extra play.

The Pack's run in the NCAA Single and Double Championships and fall play has come to an end. The 2025 spring season schedule will be announced at a later date.

Makes sense that we added another to the roster for Spring 2025, as we currently only had 7 on the roster (after adding Laki, we have 8). Most teams have at least 8. Of course, you need a minimum of 6 players for each dual, and you ideally want a couple more than that to account for potential injuries. By the way, I haven't seen any official word, but I believe that Anna Zyryanova might be back from injury and able to compete by this coming January. I was walking around campus about 3 weeks ago and stopped by the tennis stadium and saw the team practicing and she was out there walking around and practicing her serve. But she was not doing anything beyond that, such as hitting groundstrokes with the other players. So it appears she is slowly recovering to whatever injury it was to her lower leg. Hopefully it was just an ankle sprain.

More on this new recruit, Michaela Laki. She is currently 19 years old, and will turn 20 in March of 2025. She reached a career-high singles ranking of #466 in the world in November of 2023, and per the Parsa Bombs tweet she apparently has a career-high UTR of 10.49. That UTR is on par with many of the current top 20 players in the D1 singles rankings. I'm not the biggest tennis expert, but just based on her career-high WTA and UTR rankings, I think she has the potential to be a very good player on the collegiate level, perhaps a top 15-25 player in D1 this spring (not a prediction, but just saying she appears to have that potential). I would go out on a limb and say she will probably be playing #1 singles for us in a few months.

Perhaps this speaks to her potential, as famous coach Patrick Mouratoglou posted a video on his YT channel of a coaching session with her a couple years ago:

Only about 4-5 weeks away from the beginning of the team competition season. The Spring 2025 schedule has not been released, but based on the schedule of previous years, looks like they will start dual match play in mid January.

Video released yesterday...Anna Zyryanova appears to be back to full practice.

The NC State women's tennis team has revealed its 2025 spring schedule, as announced by the program and head coach Simon Earnshaw on Wednesday.

NC State will open the spring slate at the Miami Invitational in Coral Gables, Florida from January 10-12.

The Pack will then open its home slate by hosting Campbell on January 18 at 2 p.m. before playing host to Pepperdine on Sunday, Jan. 19 at noon.

NC State is set to hit the road for three straight weeks, starting with the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Knoxville, Tennessee from Jan. 24-25. The Pack will play Ohio State and then face either host Tennessee or Texas Tech. Following its trip to Tennessee, the Pack will travel to the Lone Star State for duals against Texas (Jan. 31) and SMU (Feb. 2). The Pack will wrap up the roadstand with the ITA National Indoors in Evanston and Champaign, Illinois from Feb. 7-10

The Pack will be back at home to host Michigan on Friday, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m. and will have an off weekend before traveling to Louisville (Feb. 28) and Notre Dame (March 2). NC State will return home to play Virginia Tech (March 7) and Virginia (March 9 at 2 p.m.).

Staying in the triangle area, the Pack plays at Duke (March 21) and North Carolina (March 23) with a return home to host Clemson (March 28 at 3 p.m.) and Georgia Tech (March 30 at noon).

The Pack will travel to the Sunshine State for the second time of the season, playing at Florida State (April 4) and Miami (April 6). NC State will then finish the regular season with matches against California (April 11 at 3 p.m.) and a doubleheader on April 13 at home with Stanford at 1 p.m. and ECU at 5 p.m.

Postseason play will start with the ACC Tournament from April 16-20 in Cary. The first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament are set for May 2-4 with NCAA Super Regionals taking place the following week from May 9-10. The NCAA National Championship is set for May 15-18 in Waco, Texas, the same spot of the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship that took place this fall.

https://gopack.com/news/2025/1/6/womens-tennis-pack-womens-tennis-picked-no-14-in-preseason-coaches-poll

The NC State women's tennis team is ranked No. 14 in the ITA Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll, as the organization announced Monday.

Last season, the Pack finished 22-9 and 9-4 in the ACC. The Pack hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA Championships, beating South Carolina State (W, 4-0) and Old Dominion (W, 4-0) before falling to Stanford in the Sweet 16 (L, 0-4).

This marks the sixth consecutive year the Pack is ranked inside the top 15 in the ITA Preseason Poll, with its best preseason ranking being at No. 3 ahead of the 2022-23 season.

The Pack is loaded with young talent with three freshmen, four sophomores and one junior. Anna Zyranova is coming off the 2023-24 season having earned All-ACC Third Team honors in singles with a 33-14 record, as well as named the Most Improved Player in the Carolina Region by ITA. Maddy Zampardo earned All-ACC Second Team honors in doubles.

In the fall, Gabriella Broadfoot and Zampardo made big noise, finishing the fall with a No. 5 ITA national ranking and All-America status after winning the ITA All-American Doubles Championship. The tandem went 14-3 and 7-0 against ranked opponents, wrapping up the slate with an Elite 8 finish at the NCAA Doubles Championship.

Jasmine Conway and Kristina Paskauskas are ranked No. 60 in doubles after the fall. The duo finished 5-3 and earned a ranked win over the No. 70 ranked doubles team. Freshman Gabia Paskauskas is ranked No. 55 in singles following an 8-4 fall record, including a big run through pre-qualifying and qualifying rounds with five straight wins at the ITA All-American.

NC State begins the season this week at the Miami Invitational from Jan. 10-12 in Coral Gables.

#14 in the country is good for such a young team that we have this year. But 6th in the ACC because the ACC is absolutely loaded in women's tennis.

I wonder if the coaches voting on these rankings were accounting for the latest addition to the team, Michaela Laki, who committed in late November (only about 6 weeks ago), has yet to play for us, and was not even listed on the official roster on GoPack until the last day or so? I suspect maybe not. She's been ranked as high as #466 in the WTA, and has beaten a couple players ranked in the top 250 in the world (highest career win I could find was over #191).

I think Laki could be a big impact player and potentially play #1 singles for us right away. Having a really good player at #1 singles can be HUGE for your team, because it "bumps" everyone else down in the singles order in your lineup, making every matchup more favorable at the duals. For example, look how having Diana Shnaider in the 2022-23 season made us a national title contender. If Laki can be a really good player for us at #1 singles, and assuming that she wasn't factored in the #14 ranking, IMO we have the potential to be better than #14.

Our team is very young, with no seniors and only one junior, 4 sophomores and 3 freshmen. So there is a lot of potential for growth/improvement over the course of the season. And the future of the program looks very bright over the next 3-4 years with this group, and bringing in the #2 recruit in the 2025 class, Victoria Osuigwe, this coming fall.
