Even without Laki, we gave unc a good fight....closer than the 1-4 score looks on the surface. We were in tight battles in the 3rd set of both unfinished singles matches. So hypothetically, if we win both of those unfinished singles matches its only a narrow 3-4 loss. And that's with losing the doubles point, which we had won against unc in the regular season. Freshman Slama had a close 3 set loss to senior Carson Tanguilig (currently ranked #45 in D1 singles). Nothing to hang our heads about. If we could have just won the doubles point, we would have actually had a decent chance to pull the upset.

Looking ahead to the NCAA, it's possible with the seeding that we could face either Duke or unc in the super regional (Sweet 16 round)...which would be really cool....which we would have to play on the road for either at their place, but would be great as it would obviously be a short ride over to see in person.

Technician article on the ACC tournament semifinal loss highlights how the loss was closer than it appears from just looking at the final score. Coach Earnshaw indicates this as well, and that with such narrow margins we can win against top teams in the NCAA tournament if it breaks our way.

Quote:

"It doesn't take much for this to suddenly tip the other way, right?" Earnshaw said. "I think, particularly as the conditions get a bit warmer as well, I think it helps us. But the players have to stick with it. They got to believe more in what we're trying to do and be even more committed."

We are the #12 seed, and unc is the #5 overall seed and who we would face in the Sweet Sixteen round ("Super Regional")โ€ฆwhich I believe will be hosted by unc and played in chapel hill. So that will be very cool to have that right here in the triangle with many Wolfpack fans able to attend in person.

Don't know why they haven't posted this on their official social accounts yet, but per GoPack (and the NCAA website) the women's 1st round match at home (against Charleston Southern) is this Friday (May 2nd) at 4:00pm. Then, if they win that match they play the next day, Saturday at 5:00 pm.

The men's first round match (against South Carolina State) is on Saturday at 2:00 pm. So that's a nice little double header at home on Saturday, with the men at 2 and then the women at 5.

We play UCF in the 2nd round tomorrow (at home courts) at 5:00 pm. Weather looks good for tomorrow, so match should be on the outdoor courts. The men's first round match is at 2:00 pm on the same courts. So the women's should start right after the men's match ends.

UCF is currently ranked #21 in the country. So while we should win, it's no guarantee, and could be a dog fight.
