Big win over Stanford. They are "only" ranked #29, but are still very talented and good. Remember that Stanford was the #2 seed in the NCAA tournament last year, and we lost to them in the sweet 16 round 4-0 (and likely a 6-1 or 7-0 loss if played to completion).

Weird how we beat #18 Cal much more easily two days ago than Stanford today.

Huge win by Anna Zyryanova at #1 singles over the #10 ranked singles player in the country in Connie Ma, and a fairly easy 6-1, 6-3 victory. This shows that we can be very solid at #1 singles even with Laki out. Of course having your #1 or #2 player out is disadvantageous because of the effect of bumping everyone below in singles up in the order. But perhaps we can weather this storm better than some teams with the depth we have.

The No. 12 NC State women's tennis team wrapped up its 2025 regular season with a doubleheader on Sunday, April 13, at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center, first facing off against Stanford, followed by a matchup with ECU.

The Wolfpack entered the day coming of a dominant 4-0 sweep of the California Golden Bears on Friday evening.

In doubles action, Anna Zyryanova and Jasmine Conway quickly made their presence felt, securing a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot. The Cardinals responded with a 6-3 win over Maddy Zampardo and Gabriella Broadfoot on court one, but NC State clinched the doubles point when Kristina Paskauskas and Mia Slama made waves with a 7-5 win.

With a 1-0 lead heading into singles, the Wolfpack sought to close out their regular season strong before heading into postseason play. Early in the singles matches, courts one, four, and five took the first sets for NC State, with freshman Mia Slama leading the charge. Slama breezed through her first set 6-1 and maintained momentum in the second, securing a 6-3 win to put the Wolfpack up 2-0.

Junior Anna Zyryanova, ranked No. 77, faced off against No. 10 Connie Ma in a highly anticipated No. 1 singles matchup. Zyryanova dominated the first set 6-1, and despite a strong push from Ma in the second, Zyryanova held her ground and closed it out 6-3, putting the Wolfpack ahead 3-0.

The Cardinals, however, mounted a comeback, with No. 8 Valerie Glozman winning against No. 89 Zampardo at No. 2 and additional victories on courts three and four. With the match tied at 3-3, all eyes turned to freshman Gabia Paskauskas, who was tasked with clinching the win for NC State. After dropping the first set, Paskauskas battled back, taking the second set 6-3. In a tense third set, Paskauskas pulled away, winning 6-3 to secure the match and cap off the Wolfpack's regular-season conference play with a hard-fought victory.

In the second match of the day, NC State faced ECU in their first doubleheader of the season. The Wolfpack wasted no time establishing dominance. In doubles, Gabriella Broadfoot and Maddy Zampardo delivered a commanding 6-0 win on court one, while Kristina Paskauskas and Mia Slama followed suit with a 6-2 victory on court three to clinch the doubles point.

With the momentum firmly on their side, NC State carried their success into singles, claiming the first set on all six courts. Broadfoot and Jasmine Conway posted impressive 6-0 first-set victories, while Slama and Paskauskas only allowed one game in their first sets.

Slama once again made an impact in singles, winning 6-1, 6-0 over Isabel Rivera Ortiz to put the Wolfpack up 2-0. Broadfoot followed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory to give NC State a 3-0 lead. Paskauskas rounded out the competition with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court six, helping the Wolfpack secure their 16th consecutive victory over ECU, extending their unbeaten streak in the series to 16-0.

With the regular season now complete, the Wolfpack earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming ACC Championships and will advance to the quarterfinals. NC State is set to compete on Friday, April 18, at 12:30 p.m. at Cary Tennis Park.

Coach Earnshaw said that our #1 singles player yesterday, Anna Zyryanova, "played the match of her life" to beat #10 Connia Ma of Stanford...

No. 12 NC State women's tennis records trio of wins in final weekend of regular season

However, earlier on in singles, Zyryanova pulled off an even more impressive feat. Pitted against Ma, one of the best players in the nation with a nearly unblemished 2025 record, Zyryanova was ruthless. Working Ma around the court and striking winners with pinpoint accuracy, the Pack's junior defeated her formidable opponent 6-1, 6-3.

"The reason we won this match was Anna had the win of her life," Earnshaw said. "That's the best match she's ever played. Ever. Yeah, clearly she can play [Court] number one. I mean, no doubt about it, which obviously we need. We need people to step up."

The win came without standout freshman Michaela Laki, who has been sidelined since suffering a severe leg injury during NC State's 4-1 win over Miami on April 6. Head coach Simon Earnshaw confirmed Laki will be out for at least the remainder of the team's 2025 season.

Here's the women's bracket for the ACC tournament that is played this coming weekend. We're the #3 seed and get a bye to the quarterfinals, and play that QF match this coming Friday at 12:30pm (per gopack article above recapping this weekend's matches).

As I posted in the men's tennis thread...the tournament is hosted at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, NC. It's a beautiful facility that hosts low-level ATP tournaments. I've gone to the tournament the last two years. They charge $10/day for an all day pass. Parking is free, with around 125 spots located on the Cary Tennis Park property and then another ~250-300 spots located directly across the street at Green Hope Elementary School that they officially allow fans to use.

Another interesting thing about the victory over Stanford. Two of our points came from our true freshman (Mia Slama and Gabia Paskauskas) getting singles wins over seniors from Stanford. Slama beat senior Alexandra Yepifanova, who has had a very accomplished collegiate career including All Pac-12 first team last year in singles and ending the year ranked #20 in singles in the d1 NCAA, and played mostly #3 singles for Stanford last year. Yepifanova beat Anna Zyryanova in last years' Sweet 16 match in singles by a score of 6-1, 7-5.

She is apparently not ranked in singles currently. I don't know why she is unranked and playing #5 singles for Stanford now...perhaps she's coming back from an injury or her level of play has just dipped.

But regardless, that's a big win for Slama.

Bio for Yepifanova:
https://gostanford.com/sports/womens-tennis/roster/player/alexandra-yepifanova

Stanford had 4 seniors playing singles for them yesterday. Meanwhile, we don't have a single senior on our roster and only one junior. So, looking ahead to next year, that puts us in a very good position against a lot of these other programs that will be losing a lot of seniors.

Reminder that the #3 seeded Wolfpack women begin their ACC tournament play tomorrow (Friday) at 12:30 pm at Cary Tennis Park in Cary. They play the winner of #14 Wake Forest and #6 Notre Dame (played today at 12:30pm).

I'm planning to take half the day off work tomorrow to see this one. And then the #2 seeded Wolfpack men play later tomorrow (Friday) at 6:00pm, against the winner of #15 Notre Dame and #7 Duke.

As I mentioned above, it's $10 (I believe, was price last two years) for an all-day pass at the site, which you can pay as you walk into the facility. And there is free parking at the site, and across the street at Green Hope Elementary School (with signs to the entry of the parking lot confirming that it is "officially" for use for tennis fans).

Recap
No. 12 NC State women's tennis downs No. 25 Notre Dame in ACC Quarterfinals

"I think there was a lot of looking around and scoreboard watching today," said head coach Simon Earnshaw. "It's so hard to keep them present and focused on the task. Look, Notre Dame gives us a lot of problems, the coaching staff there does a good job. They're very aggressive, and we always seem to come out on top."

"I know we both have the ability," Zampardo said. "I mean, we've seen it and we play really well together. It just comes down to doubles being one set things can change very quickly. No ad, one set and so [we're] just kind of really focusing on what has given us success, and continuing to do that."

"I don't think it was unexpected we were gonna play at UNC, so I think we're gonna do really well," Zampardo said. "We've been fighting really hard this season. We're just gonna fight, give our best, see how it goes."

An important chapter of NC State and UNC's epic history has taken place at Cary Tennis Park. For at least one more time, the Pack and Heels will throw down in a storied venue with an undoubtedly fiery drove of fans supporting each side.

"We know we have a battle, and we're gonna have to play well," Earnshaw said. "And I think we also know that if we play well, then it doesn't matter who we play against. So hopefully we can kind of be in that moment and get after them."

It's NC State and UNC once again. First serve is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday in Cary.
