Coach Earnshaw hoping for big contingent of Wolfpack fans at Cary Tennis Park today. Have to mention again...crowd support can make a huge difference, and helped them win the ACC championship in the tournament final last year.

4-0 score is deceiving. We were leading in the 3 unfinished singles matches. If it was played to completion and Rajecki, Abrams, and Dittmann won those matches, it would have been a 4-3 final score. Flip just one match/point and we could have won the entire thing.

For the second consecutive year, the NC State women's tennis team has been selected to host the first and second rounds of the 2024 NCAA Women's Tennis National Championships. The Wolfpack enter the tournament as the 15th seed overall.

Joining the Wolfpack (20-8) in Raleigh for regional action will be Old Dominion, South Carolina, and South Carolina State. All matches will be played at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on the campus of NC State, with the first round of action kicking off on May 4th when NC State takes on South Carolina State for the second straight year in the opening round.

The complete schedule for this weekend's NCAA first and second-round action is below. The entire NCAA Women's Championship bracket can be found HERE.

Saturday, May 4
Match 1- Old Dominion vs. South Carolina
Match 2- NC State vs. South Carolina State

Sunday, May 5
2:00 pm- Winner Match 1 vs. Winner Match 2

The selection marks NC State's 14th overall NCAA Championships berth and its eighth consecutive season qualifying for the postseason under head coach Simon Earnshaw. The program has remained ranked in the top 15 the entire regular dual-match season, starting at No. 9, finishing at No. 14, and reaching as high as No. 4 in the nation.
Last Year, the Wolfpack appeared in their first national championship match and was national runners-up. Their tournament run began in Raleigh with three straight 4-0 victories over South Carolina State, Kansas, and Auburn before heading to Florida for the Elite Eight, beating Iowa State and defeating Stanford in the Final Four.

Of course we have a very different team from last year (without Shnaider and Smith), but we beat Stanford 4-0 in the national semifinals last year. So we won't be intimidated. But we're playing at their place, which will make it tough. Stanford has only lost 2 matches all year, but they are not extremely dominant. They lost to #8 UCLA by a score of 3-4 in the regular season. And UCLA lost to Duke 4-0...while we played Duke much closer in a 3-4 loss. I know the transitive property is not necessarily reliable, but FWIW.

We have the capability to beat top five teams, having beat unc twice this year. However, we are inconsistent at times, with a bad loss to Syracuse and sub-par performances in home losses to Duke and FSU. If we play our best, I think we could hang with Stanford and maybe pull the upset.

We play Stanford on Friday. That's the same day as the high school state 4A tournament….Millbrook Exchange Park. I'll be there cheering my son and glancing at the Wolfpack scores when I can. Last year of high school tennis for us. My son is a senior. I'm really going to miss watching him play.

In a highly anticipated rematch of last year's semifinals, No. 14 NC State (22-8) travels to California as they get set to take on No. 2 Stanford (24-2) in the NCAA Tournament Super Regional on Friday, May 10th at 2 p.m. PST/ 5 p.m. EST.

Wolfpack fans can catch the action through live streaming and live results, which can be found HERE.

This will only be the second meeting all-time between these programs, with the Wolfpack 1-0 against the future ACC member. The first and only meeting thus far saw a 4-0 victory for NC State, sending them to their first NCAA Championship appearance in 2023.

Stanford comes into the matchup on a 10-match winning streak that includes three consecutive sweeps. They beat Massachusetts and LSU to open the tournament at home, where they are 12-1.

There will be ranked matchups throughout Friday's match, with each team having three ranked singles players and at least one ranked doubles team. The Wolfpack will be led by No. 2 Rajecki, the highest-ranked player in Wolfpack history. Anna Zyryanova checks in at 62, and Abigail Rencheli at 71.

With a doubles record of 94-42 on the year, the Wolfpack's ranked doubles pairings will look to start the match on the right foot. Rajecki and Maddy Zampardo, who are 26-8 overall, check in at No. 12. Zyryanova and Abrams, who lead the team with 31 doubles wins on the season, are 29th in the country.

For Stanford, Connie Ma leads the Cardinal in the ITA singles rankings at No. 6, Angelica Blake at No. 25, and No. 29 Alexandra Yepifanova. In doubles, the pair of Connie Ma and Alexandra Yepifanova are 10th in the country.

A win over Stanford would send the Wolfpack to Stillwater, Okla., and a spot in the Elite Eight, where they would face California or Georgia.

Picked up a Freshman transfer from Pepperdine, Jasmine Conway, who played #5 and #6 singles for them this season. Pepperdine was the #6 seed overall in the team tournament and made it to the national semifinals.

Seems like a good addition to our team. She's from London, so it looks like our British coaches are using that connection. By my count, prior to adding Conway, we only had 6 women either returning or committed to be on the team starting in the fall for the 2024-25 season. So Conway makes 7. We'll probably need to add at least one more before next fall, to have an ideal roster of 8.

After 1 semester at Pepperdine, Jasmine Conway (UTR 10.02) is transferring and has verbally committed to @PackWTennis following her visit to Raleigh on Thursday. The Brit played at #5/#6 singles and #3 doubles with overall records of 11-8 in singles/12-7 in doubles.

Great job @AmericanAirlns !! Just got to Dallas with @PackWTennis on the way back from NCAA's in Stillwater, flight out of Tulsa delayed, flight to RDU cancelled after we were here for an hour. No option to fly later today or tomorrow, no bags, car rentals all sold out. No bueno!

Huge win for for freshman Gabi Broadfoot today, winning the W15 San Diego event beating Lisa Zaar 6-2, 7-6 (2), a senior at Pepperdine who finished the season ranked #19 in singles in D1.

And this #8 ranking is based on only 2 commits (so far) for the 2024 class: Mia Slama, the #6 nationally (U.S.) ranked recruit in the 2024 class and Gabia Paskauskas (of Great Britain). The recent transfer, Jasmine Conway is not counted in these rankings.

As of now, it looks like we only have 7 players slated to be on the team for the 2024-25 season. I think it's most likely that they will add at lease one more commit or transfer before the fall.

This is on the heels of having the #6 recruiting class in 2023:

Big news....apparently a $4 million upgrade to the NC State tennis complex is coming. I don't know anything about it other than seeing this tweet, but I have to think it primarily involves expanding the indoor facility. Right now when they have to play a match indoors, they only have 4 courts to play on. They have 5 courts at the facility right now, but the 5th one doesn't have the doubles alleys and for whatever reason is not used on match days (they put bleachers over it with spectators sitting on it). Most of your big time tennis programs around the country have 6 indoor courts....because 6 is the number of singles matches that are played at a dual competition.

So what ends up happening when we currently play an indoor dual is that 2 of the singles matches (the #5 and #6 singles) have to wait to start until after the first 2 singles matches to finish end. And this (usually, if it is a close contest) ends up causing the entire overall dual to last much longer than it should. I remember a men's home dual last year that ended up lasting at least 5 hours, which is crazy. They should last no longer than 3 hours, typically, if you have 6 courts to play on. And the women's team had a dual versus unc last year played at home in the indoor facility that they won 4-3 that lasted near 5 hours as well, as a I recall.

And they do have the space on the property to expand the indoor facility building to the west and be able to get 6 full-size courts....because right now there is an outdoor court (that appears to virtually never be used) that is located immediately to the west of the building.
