For the 11th straight time, sixth-ranked NC State Women's Tennis defeated No. 35 Wake Forest as the Wolfpack claimed a 6-1 victory Friday afternoon from the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.

The Wolfpack (13-3, 3-0) cruised to their fifth straight and third conference victory this season.

The Wolfpack started the day in doubles play, only dropping four games between the three matches. The senior freshman pairing of Abigail Rencheli and Gabriella Broadfoot won handily 6-0, and the No. 9 duo of Anna Zyryanova and Sophie Abrams clinched the first point with a 6-1 victory.

Four of the six courts the Wolfpack won were in straight sets while splitting two three-set decisions. Broadfoot was first to finish on court six while only dropping one game and going on to win 6-1, 6-0.

Gina Dittmann won her fifth straight match with a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Sankavi Gownder on court five. Dittmann has won eight matches this season, with only one win going to three sets.

Third-ranked Amelia Rajecki on court one, beat No. 28 Casie Wooten 6-1, 6-4. Rajecki is now unbeaten in her last 10 matches and is five wins away from 100 singles wins for her career.

Eighty-second-ranked Abrams clinched the match and returned to the win column, ending her four-match losing streak with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Marcella Cruz, which put the Pack up 4-0.

Maddy Zampardo and Rencheli forced a third set after dropping the first set of their matches. Zampardo bounced back to win her match, winning the second set 6-1 and the 10-point third set tiebreaker 10-5. Rencheli won her second set 6-0 but fell in the third set 10-point tiebreaker 10-8.

The Wolfpack will have a week to prepare for a two-match road trip that begins in Syracuse, NY, on Friday, March 15th, and ends at Boston College on Sunday, March 17th.

The Wolfpack women's tennis team will travel north for a two-match road trip when they take on Syracuse on Friday, March 15, at 3 p.m. and Boston College on Sunday, March 17, at 10 a.m.

NC State will look to remain unbeaten in ACC play, taking a 3-0 conference record and a 13-3 over record into the weekend. Riding a five-game win streak, the Wolfpack will look to improve their 1-2 road record and come back home with two more wins, where they are 10-0.

The Wolfpack leads the overall series against both programs, entering the weekend with a 7-3 advantage against Syracuse and 17-6 overall against Boston College. NC State also sees win streaks in both, having won the last five meetings against the Eagles and the last four against the Orange

It is confirmed that UNC's top player, Reese Brantmeier (#2 ranked singles player in the country) will miss the rest of the this season, with a meniscus tear. She did not play when the Wolfpack defeated unc by a score of 4-3 at the National Indoor tournament last month.

If they had Brantmeier, unc was a heavy favorite to not only win the ACC but also to win the team title in the NCAA tournament. Now with her out for the year, it looks like it's a three way race for the ACC title between unc, NC State, and Virginia - with all of these teams relatively equal in talent and with a good chance of winning the league.

It's crazy how it feels like the season just started, but there are actually only four regular season home matches left right now -- UNC (March 22nd), Duke (March 24th), Miami (April 5th) and FSU (April 7th). And as a reminder, the ACC tennis tournament (both men's and women's) will be held at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, NC this year (from April 18-21), and will be held there through the year 2029, per an announcement a few weeks back. This is an excellent venue to watch tennis, and obviously great for Wolfpack fans with it being in the Raleigh area. The Wolfpack women defeated UNC there last April to win their first ACC title in program history.

ETA: After that terrible Syracuse loss (after typing my post above), I'm not feeling so good about our chances to win the ACC at the tournament. But hopefully we can pull it together and play our best tennis of the year when tournament season gets here in a month....like the men's basketball team.

NC State had a 3-0 match lead but could not secure the fourth and final point needed for victory, as Syracuse overcame the deficit to win 4-3 Friday afternoon.

The Wolfpack had little trouble securing the doubles point as No. 9 Anna Zyryanova and Sophie Abrams won handily, not dropping a game-winning 6-0. On court three, Gabriella Broadfoot and Abigail Rencheli followed with a 6-3 win.

With the doubles point secured, the Wolfpack quickly jumped to a three-point advantage as Maddy Zampardo and Gina Dittmann won in straight sets. Freshman Zampardo has won her six straight matches with a 6-4, 6-3 decision on court six, finishing first. Dittmann on court five picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win for her seventh straight victory.

Three of the four wins for Syracuse wins came in the third set. After Anna Zyryanove won her first set, Anastasia Sysoeva won back-to-back sets, holding off Zyraynova 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Abrams came back to even her match with a 6-4 victory in set two but couldn't repeat it in the third set.

No. 3 Amelia Rajecki saw both her sets go to 6-6, but she dropped both tiebreakers 7-6 (7-4) and 7-6 (7-4). It came down to court two, with Rencheli forcing a third set with a 7-6 (7-1) win in set two, but after going down two sets, she couldn't complete the comeback.

The Orange ended the Wolfpack's five-game win streak and gave NC State its first conference loss of the season. The Wolfpack will now turn their attention to Boston College on Sunday when they take on the Eagles at 10 a.m.
