For the 11th straight time, sixth-ranked NC State Women's Tennis defeated No. 35 Wake Forest as the Wolfpack claimed a 6-1 victory Friday afternoon from the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
The Wolfpack (13-3, 3-0) cruised to their fifth straight and third conference victory this season.
The Wolfpack started the day in doubles play, only dropping four games between the three matches. The senior freshman pairing of
Abigail Rencheli and
Gabriella Broadfoot won handily 6-0, and the No. 9 duo of
Anna Zyryanova and
Sophie Abrams clinched the first point with a 6-1 victory.
Four of the six courts the Wolfpack won were in straight sets while splitting two three-set decisions. Broadfoot was first to finish on court six while only dropping one game and going on to win 6-1, 6-0.
Gina Dittmann won her fifth straight match with a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Sankavi Gownder on court five. Dittmann has won eight matches this season, with only one win going to three sets.
Third-ranked
Amelia Rajecki on court one, beat No. 28 Casie Wooten 6-1, 6-4. Rajecki is now unbeaten in her last 10 matches and is five wins away from 100 singles wins for her career.
Eighty-second-ranked Abrams clinched the match and returned to the win column, ending her four-match losing streak with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Marcella Cruz, which put the Pack up 4-0.
Maddy Zampardo and Rencheli forced a third set after dropping the first set of their matches. Zampardo bounced back to win her match, winning the second set 6-1 and the 10-point third set tiebreaker 10-5. Rencheli won her second set 6-0 but fell in the third set 10-point tiebreaker 10-8.
Up NextThe Wolfpack will have a week to prepare for a two-match road trip that begins in Syracuse, NY, on Friday, March 15th, and ends at Boston College on Sunday, March 17th.
