In 1988, the women's soccer team won their first and only ACC Championship over UNC in the final. Then we played UNC in the national championship and lost. 35 years later is it time for payback!

NC State women's tennis will play for the 2023 NCAA Team Championship on Saturday after beating sixth-ranked Stanford (25-3) by a 4-0 score in Friday evening's semifinal matchup at the USTA National Campus.
This marked the team's second Final Four appearance in the past three seasons, and the Pack made history by advancing to the title match for the first time in program history. The Wolfpack extended its record on the season to 28-4, bettering its already-set program record for wins in a single season.

NC State will face off against top-ranked North Carolina on Saturday, May 20, with that match set to start at 5:30 p.m. EST in Orlando. The national title match will be a rematch of the 2023 ACC Tournament finalists as the Pack beat previously undefeated UNC by a 4-1 score a month ago to claim its first-ever conference title. That victory, NC State's first over the Tar Heels in 25 years, remains North Carolina's only loss of the season.
The doubles point came easy for the Pack as it secured wins on courts one and three to go up 1-0 in the team score to start. Diana Shnaider and Alana Smith, ranked fourth nationally in doubles, beat 16th-ranked Angelica Blake and Alexis Blokhina by a 6-3 score on the top court, and NC State also got the 6-2 win from Abigail Rencheli and Sophie Abrams on three.

NC State then went up a set on three singles courts and closed out the win with straight-set victories on each of those despite Stanford attempting to gain back momentum.

In a top-30 matchup on court one, Shnaider easily took care of Stanford's Alexandra Yepifanova and beat her by a 6-1, 6-0 score. Through two matches played at the final site in Orlando, Shnaider has dropped just one game.

Gina Dittmann then put the Pack a match away from the clinch with a gutsy effort on court six. After winning her first set against Sara Choy, Dittmann then stared up at a 3-0 deficit in the second. She rallied off four games in a row to retake the lead and ultimately closed out the 6-3, 7-6 (4) win.

In fitting fashion, it was fifth-year standout Smith who delivered the Wolfpack its first-ever NCAA Team Championship match berth with her win on court two. Smith broke 18th-ranked Connie Ma's serve in the to close out the 7-5, 7-5 victory and help make history for her team.

The fourth-ranked Wolfpack women's tennis team fell to the first-ranked North Carolina, 4-1, Saturday evening in the National Championship game at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. The match made history as it was the first since the tournament began in 1982 that two teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference were competing for the title.

NC State became only the fifth team from the conference to make it to the championship game, joining UNC, Duke, Miami, and Georgia Tech.

The meeting was the third in 44 days for the in-state, conference foes. The Pack was the only team to beat the first-ranked Tar Heels this season after taking them down in the ACC Championship match, 4-1, on April 23.
The first-ranked Tar Heels jumped out to an early lead in doubles play and claimed a win on court two. Courts one and three proved to be a battle as it remained neck-and-neck throughout. NC State claimed the win on court one, leaving the decision to court three. Sophie Abrams and Abigail Rencheli worked their way back from a 5-2 deficit but came up short as UNC took the win 6-4 to secure the doubles point.

The Wolfpack won the first set on courts one, five, and six to start off singles play. Shnaider secured the first point of the evening for the Pack after defeating Reese Brantmeier 6-3, 6-4 on court one. The Tar Heels regained the lead after winning on court two.

UNC quickly picked up points on courts three and four to secure the win and end the match. Games on courts five and six were abandoned.

The Wolfpack finished the season 28-5, the best record in program history. ACC Champions, and the NCAA National Championship Runner Up.

Over the winter, NC State women's tennis signed three upcoming additions to the program. Coming experienced from all over, Gabriella Broadfoot, Reya Coe, and Maddy Zampardo sealed the #6 ranking for the Wolfpack among the top recruiting classes in the nation.
The Tennis Recruiting Network established a media poll consisting of junior tennis experts that voted on the top classes around the country. NC State finished in sixth place with 354 points in the voting, only 86 points behind the #1 spot that had 440.
The trio is set to join the team as freshmen in the upcoming 2023-24 season. Zampardo will be the fourth blue chip player in program history and is the top-ranked recruit out of Michigan. Out of Texas, Coe is a five star recruit and ranked No. 4 recruit out of the state. Broadfoot is currently at her career-high ITF Junior ranking of No. 97, in addition to a WTA doubles ranking of No. 1,174.
