Very cool to watch Diana play today against Oklahoma. I was worried after they lost the doubles point, but then they won all 6 singles matches. Nell Miller must have a minor injury, b/c she hasn't played the last couple matches. When she gets back, that will strengthen the doubles and team overall even more. We wouldn't have lost to Vandy with Shnaider or even if we would have had Nell at singles.

Adding Shnaider to the lineup pushes all of our singles down a spot and makes the team that much better. Gonna be really interesting to follow this team and see what they can accomplish this season.

10th-ranked NC State women's tennis (3-1) defeated No. 15 Oklahoma (5-4) in a top-15 matchup Saturday afternoon, forcing a 6-1 win.

Diana Shnaider paired up with Alana Smith to make her debut in the red and white. They made quick work of taking down their opponent with a 6-2 decision. Not long after, the other two Wolfpack duos, Sophie Abrams and Abigail Rencheli as well as Amelia Rajecki and Anna Zyryanova, fell to the Sooners, giving up the doubles point. This would be the only point they give up the entire day.

The singles lineup for the Wolfpack got even stronger as they added Shnaider to the top of the list. With much anticipation, she had all eyes on her as she secured her first Wolfpack win with a 6-4,6-0 score.

Smith took care of business per usual and came away victorious after dominating in two sets winning 6-1, 6-3. Over on court three, after falling far behind (1-6) in her first set, Rajecki didn't fray away. She then came back to win the next two sets 6-4, 6-4 and extend the Wolfpack lead.

This match, in addition to last weekend versus Vanderbilt, displayed Rencheli's determination to fight for her results. Pushing ahead 6-3 in the first set she then found herself behind in the second set 2-6 but battled back 6-3 in the final set.

Abrams commanded her first set 6-0 but had a challenge moving through the second set until ultimately winning that one 6-3. Gina Dittmann caught attention as she stayed on top of her win, finishing 6-3, 6-4 over her 86th-ranked opponent.

While successfully completing control over a top-15 program, the solid group showed off what they are capable of doing throughout this season. This impressive win was also the first time in program history the Wolfpack tallied in the win column against the Sooners.

It was clear that the No. 10 NC State women's tennis team seemed to have some pent-up aggression after its crushing loss to Vanderbilt on Sunday, Jan. 29, and today, the Pack took out its anger on No. 15 Oklahoma in a crushing 6-1 victory.

Thanks to a dominating singles round and the highly-anticipated debut of freshman Diana Shnaider, the Wolfpack didn't just beat the Sooners it made a statement.

NC State (3-1) started off slow, conceding the doubles point to an equally-talented Oklahoma (5-3) squad in terms of doubles play. The red-and-white quickly and ruthlessly separated itself in the next round, however, sweeping all six singles courts to capture its first ranked win of the season.

It was no coincidence that the Pack found its groove right as Shnaider joined the lineup. After finally being granted eligibility from the NCAA, the three-time Grand Slam Champion and the No. 94 player in the world didn't disappoint in her Wolfpack debut, even if the Pack's historic signing was going through first-match jitters.

"It was exciting; I was pretty nervous because it was the first [match], and I was waiting for this for a pretty long time," Shnaider said. "So yeah, of course I was excited, nervous, both."

Naturally, Shnaider was first off the court in the singles round. After taking her first set 6-4, the freshman settled in, shook off the nerves, and pummeled her opponent 6-0 in the next one to even the match score at 1-1.

"In the first set, I was getting used to all of the new stuff," Shnaider said. "And then in the second set, I realized how to play better with this girl and I just got my way."

Shnaider showed just why NC State and head coach Simon Earnshaw were so excited about the highly-touted recruit playing in Raleigh for the 2023 season. Her relentless attacking skills and natural tennis instincts provide an instant and evident boost to NC State's already-talented squad.

"She brings a lot to the table," Earnshaw said. "She's got tremendous experience and she plays a kind of fearless tennis, and I think that type of tennis makes it easier."

With Shnaider doing her thing on court one, she adds a depth to the Pack's roster that it hasn't had yet this season, and today it showed in singles. No. 13 graduate student Alana Smith earned an easy 6-1, 6-3 win over her opponent on court two thanks to her cool, silky-smooth style of play her second singles win in a row of that nature.

With a 2-1 advantage in hand, juniors and team veterans Amelia Rajecki and Abigail Rencheli gutted out three-set wins on courts three and four, respectively. No. 23 Rajecki quickly rebounded from her 6-1 first-set loss, taking the next two for her big 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 win. No. 25 Rencheli then won her match 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 to clinch the top-15 win for NC State.

With courts falling like dominoes, all of which were in NC State's favor, Oklahoma had no answer for the Pack's singles prowess. If you blinked, you would have missed No. 97 junior Sophie Abrams' 6-0 first set win. Even though she was met with more opposition in the second set, the junior followed through, winning the second set 6-3.

Finally, junior Gina Dittman rubbed salt in the Sooners' wound on court six, defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-4 to complete the Wolfpack's singles sweep.

Additionally, the Pack's statement win over Oklahoma was Earnshaw's 900th with the Wolfpack. Earnshaw's importance to the program has been nothing short of paramount, and he has undoubtedly played one of the biggest roles in NC State's program-defining success streak over the last few years. But even with the mind-bending accomplishment under his belt, Earnshaw and the Pack have their sights set on their next test the No. 22 Tennessee Volunteers.

NC State clashed with the Vols in the second round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament, and the Pack will aim to send Tennessee back home with the same result: a loss.

"These guys are going to be tough," Earnshaw said. "We saw them in the second round [last season] and they gave us everything we could handle in that match. The mark of a good team is that you can start to put things together, and hopefully we can put together reasonable performances."

Thanks to Shnaider's debut and a dominating singles display, NC State put together a more-than-reasonable display against the Sooners, one it would no doubt like to replicate against the Volunteers and beyond.

First serve against Tennessee is set for Feb. 5 at 1 p.m. at the J.W Isenhour Tennis Center in Raleigh.

Alana was off the entire match in the doubles (making many really bad unforced forehand errors), that largely contributed to her and Shnaider losing. It was like Smith hadn't warmed up enough and got her forehand dialed in. Shnaider's opponent in singles was a big tall girl that had a good serve and played her really tough in the first set, but Shnaider seemed to wear her down in the 2nd and 3rd sets.

10th-ranked NC State women's tennis (4-1) showed their dominance as they beat No. 22 Tennessee (4-2) with a 6-1 decision. Yesterday, the Wolfpack took down No. 15 Oklahoma with the same score and showed no mercy today as they did the same.

After leading through the beginning, Diana Shnaider and Alana Smith fell 3-6 on court one to the Volunteers. Gina Dittmann got added into the mix as she paired back up with Amelia Rajecki and took the first win for the Wolfpack with a 6-4 decision. The 60th-ranked pair in the country, Sophie Abrams and Abigail Rencheli, secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win to put the team ahead by one.
Moving into singles leading the scoreboard, NC State had a hopeful game in front of them. No. 23 Rajecki finished her first set 6-2 while Rencheli and Smith were also ahead in the first set.
As Rajecki was completing her match with a 6-2, 6-0 win, No. 25 Rencheli was still battling through her first set against her 55th-ranked opponent. At the same time over on court one, Shnaider was battling back as she fell 3-6 in the first set but was leading 4-1 in the second.
Rencheli ended up falling to her opponent over on court four, giving up the only point of the day to the Volunteers.
Later on, No. 13 Smith was leading 6-4, 3-2 while Shnaider was headed into her third set after crushing her 68th-ranked opponent in the second. Smith ended up finalizing her win with a 6-2 win in the second set and Shnaider showed her tenacity as she came back and dominated the last two sets 6-1, 6-2.
Continuing her aggressive play from the day prior, No. 97 Abrams dominated her match with a 6-0, 6-3 win. Dittmann was all gas and no break as she fought through her first set with a tiebreaker win and went on to capitalize in her second set with a 6-2 get.

Alana was off the entire match in the doubles (making many really bad unforced forehand errors), that largely contributed to her and Shnaider losing. It was like Smith hadn't warmed up enough and got her forehand dialed in. Shnaider's opponent in singles was a big tall girl that had a good serve and played her really tough in the first set, but Shnaider seemed to wear her down in the 2nd and 3rd sets.

thank you for field report

all i had was online stats

No problem. Not trying to be too hard on Smith...she then played very well in singles. The indoor facility had a much larger spectator crowd than the previous ~5 times I've gone to a women's indoor match - no doubt due to people coming to see Shnaider.

No. 10 NC State women's tennis claimed its second straight ranked win in as many days, toppling Tennessee 6-1 in Raleigh on Sunday, Feb. 5.
Just one day after taking down No. 15 Oklahoma by the same score thanks to a stellar singles display, the Wolfpack (4-1) claimed an equally dominant win against No. 22 Tennessee (4-2), taking the doubles point and five of six singles matches in the victory.
"In both matches we had the same result, but they were very different matches," said head coach Simon Earnshaw. "And just because you do well one day doesn't mean you're entitled to do well the next day."

The red-and-white bounced right back to its winning ways in doubles play after conceding the early point to Oklahoma the day prior. Even though the lethal combination of star freshman Diana Shnaider and graduate student Alana Smith lost their bout on court one, NC State's other two pairs got the job done.
Juniors Amelia Rajecki and Gina Dittman claimed court three 6-4, and with both teams splitting the doubles courts one a piece, it came down to the No. 60 pair of juniors Sophie Abrams and Abigail Rencheli to clinch the early point. And they did just that, downing their opponents 6-3 to claim the 1-0 edge.
From there, NC State picked up where it left off in terms of its singles play from its match against Oklahoma. While the Pack didn't sweep the Vols like it did the Sooners, it got close, taking five of six singles courts to continue its dominance.
No. 23 Rajecki wasted no time in pushing the Pack's advantage, pummeling her opponent 6-2, 6-0 on court three. The next to earn a point was No. 13 Smith, who captured her third straight two-set singles win on court two thanks to some solid serving.
"My match today was just a serving battle," Smith said. "I felt like she had a pretty big serve. My serve was on today; I held my serve the whole time, so if I can do that every match that would be fun."

Smith has been cruising as of late, and after being sidelined all of last season with an injury, it's safe to say she's hit her stride in 2023.
"This is probably the first time in my career that I've ever won straight-set matches back-to-back-to-back," Smith said. I think in 2021, my last time playing in-season, every match was three sets, so it's definitely different. But I would like to keep it up like that."
While Rajecki and Smith cruised through their opponents, Schnaider gutted out her first three-set win with the Wolfpack on court one. After falling in the first set, she settled in, figured out her opponent and got to work, outscoring her opponent, No. 68 Elza Tomase, 12-3 in game score over the next two sets.
After Shnaider clinched it for the Pack, Abrams added the Pack's fourth singles win of the day, one that was eerily similar to her win against the Sooners where she also won by a score of 6-0, 6-3. NC State's final point came from Dittman on court six. The junior clutched out a close first set win in tiebreak before finding her groove in the second set, winning her match 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
While the Wolfpack largely had its way with the Volunteers, Tennessee didn't let the Pack pull off a full sweep. The Vols got the better of Rencheli, and while it wasn't without a fight from the junior, the visitors claimed their only point of the day with the win on court four.
Between the Pack's two matches on the weekend, the team won 11 of 12 singles matches, an especially impressive statline considering its ranked opposition. It doesn't mean that Earnshaw and NC State are quite yet satisfied, though.
"I think overall, every player did a better job," Earnshaw said. "And [success] in singles, it's not like that's unexpected I think we have that. We've shown that many times, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen. It was good. I mean, can we do better? 100%, absolutely."
Next, the red-and-white is set to face California on Sunday, Feb. 12 in Miami, Florida. First serve against the Bears is set for 10 a.m.
