Seventh-ranked NC State women's tennis (18-4, 8-3 ACC) is back in the win column after a 5-2 win taking down No. 11 Texas (17-4, 7-1 Big 12) at home Monday afternoon.
Doubles action consisted of two ranked matchups, on courts one and two. Court one featured No. 10
Alana Smith and
Diana Shnaider for NC State and No. 51 Charlotte Chavatipon and Sabina Zeynalova for Texas. On court two for NC State was No. 11
Nell Miller and
Amelia Rajecki facing Texas's No. 54 Nicole Khirin and Marlee Zein.
Court three finished up first as
Sophie Abrams and
Abigail Rencheli breezed through to finish 6-1 over Taisiya Pachkaleva and Nicole Rivkin and put the Wolfpack ahead.
Courts one and two were back and forth throughout the matches, untelling of which team would claim a victory and how soon it would be. Shnaider and Smith prevailed on court one with a 7-5 decision to clinch the doubles point. On the next court over, Miller and Rajecki were leading 6-5 when their play was stopped.
Moving into singles play, the red-and-white carried their momentum as each player won their first set on all six courts.
All business as usual, No. 13
Alana Smith, tallied the first singles win on court two when she finished 6-2, 6-0 over No. 99 Sabina Zeynalova. Following right behind her on the next court, No. 65
Abigail Rencheli won two straight sets 6-2, 6-3 to push the lead for her team.
An exciting match on court one with No.18
Diana Shnaider and No. 115 Nicole Khirin resulted in a 6-3, 7-5 score to clinch the win for NC State.
No. 28
Amelia Rajecki closed out the winning for the Wolfpack when she took down No. 74 Charlotte Chavatipon in a 10-point tie breaker on court three (6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7).
In their final 10 point tie breaker sets,
Gina Dittmann and
Sophie Abrams fell on courts five and six to give up two points to the Longhorns and end the match.
