The No. 22 NC State men's tennis team earned a pair of victories on Saturday, defeating Presbyterian 7-0 and getting a 7-0 win over NC Central.


DOUBLES VS. PRESBYTERIAN
Play was tight across the three doubles matches, but NC State was able to get the doubles points with wins on courts two and one.

No. 29 Yannai Barkai and Collin Shick got the 6-3, win over Nicholas McKinney and Sebastian Dominguez to open doubles competition.

Competition was knotted up at 5-5 on courts two and three, and the Pack took the 6-5 lead on both courts. Ultimately, Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli got a ranked win with their 7-5 defeat of No. 47 Max Benson and Dusan Milanovic.

SINGLES VS. PRESBYTERIAN
Damien Salvestre cruised to the first singles win of the day, dropping only three games on his way to a 6-1, 6-2 win over McKinney.

Staeheli helped NC State on its way to the win, taking down Milanovic 6-0, 6-2 for the squad's third team point.

No. 31 Catry clinched the team victory with his 6-0, 6-3 takedown of Javier Matos.

The fourth singles win of the match went the Wolfpack's way with a standout effort by Braden Shick. The Greensboro, N.C., native fought back after dropping the first set to win the match 3-6, 6-2, 1-0(8) over Dominguez.

Fons Van Sambeek rounded out the sweep with an easy 6-0, 6-0 win against Cardoso.

DOUBLES VS. NC CENTRAL
The Shick brothers began the match with a quick 6-1 win over Shaka Cristellotti and LaQuon Gilchrist. Play was close on courts one and two, and NC State was able to clinch the doubles point with Joseph Schrader and Salvestre's 7-5 win over Amit Baran and Miles Clark.

SINGLES VS. NC CENTRAL
Braden Shick recorded an impressive singles performance against Baran, charting a 6-1, 6-1 victory for the first Wolfpack singles point of the day.

He was followed moments later by Schrader's 6-2, 6-3 win over Cristellotti, a win that put the team one point away from clinching the match.

Van Sambeek garnered the match-sealing win, taking down Oliver Saarinen 6-0, 6-3.

Play continued on the remaining singles courts, and the Pack was victorious in each of those matches. Salvestre defeated Sebastian Pino 6-4, 6-3 and was joined in victory by Barkai's 6-4, 2-6, 1-0(5) win over Clark.

Wayand finished off the day for the Pack with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of. Gilchrist

SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
North Carolina checks into the ITA rankings at No. 23 and most recently took down 13th-ranked South Carolina, 4-2. The team has been ranked for the entirety of the 2022 dual match season, reaching its highest ranking of the year at No. 13 on Jan. 19.

When I was watching the coverage of the women's ITA indoor championships a few days ago, I heard the commentator mention that our MEN's tennis team had just gotten a big time recruit. I only heard in passing, so I think he might have said the #1 recruit...but I could be wrong about that. Seems like our men's team has a lot of positive momentum right now, in addition to the obvious momentum that the women's team has.

The No. 22 NC State men's tennis team defeated 23rd-ranked North Carolina on Thursday, getting the victory in a 4-3 decision.

The win marks the Wolfpack's third victory over a top-25 team this season and is the first time since 2013 that NC State has defeated the Tar Heels.

DOUBLES
North Carolina opened the match with a pair of doubles wins to take the team point and go into singles with a one-point advantage.

Brian Cernoch and Mac Kiger were the first ones with a win in doubles action, defeating No. 29 Yannai Barkai and Collin Shick 6-2.

Cernoch and Kiger's win was followed several minutes later by Logan Zapp and Casey Kania's 6-4 win over Robin Catry and Damien Salvestre.

SINGLES
The Tar Heels got the first victory of singles action with Benjamin Sigouin's 6-0, 6-2 defeat of No. 125 Martins Rocens.

NC State was quick to even the team score at 2-2 as Rafa Izquierdo Luque got the 6-4, 6-4 win over No. 87 Cernoch and No. 31 Robin Catry notched a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Kiger.

Luca Staeheli put the Pack close to clinching with a win over Zapp, 7-5, 6-4, but North Carolina equalized the team score with Anuj Watane's win over Braden Shick 6-3, 6-4.

Competition came down to court five, where Damien Salvestre and Henry Lieberman were locked in on a three-set thriller. In the end, Salvestre was able to overcome a first-set loss to win 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 and get the win for NC State.

UP NEXT
The Pack returns to the J.W. Isenhour for a four-match homestretch that begins with a doubleheader Thursday, Feb. 24 against Radford (2 p.m.) and NC A&T (6 p.m).
