After falling behind 3-0, the Wolfpack battled back to even the match at 3-3 but ultimately came up just short.

The 20th-ranked NC State men's tennis team concluded its ACC Championships run on Friday, falling to No. 17 North Carolina in a tight 4-3 decision.

DOUBLES RECAP
Across all three doubles courts play was close, but in the end the Tar Heels came away with the crucial doubles team point.

Benjamin Sigouin and Peter Murphy got the first win of the day on court three, defeating Braden Shick and Collin Shick, 6-3.

Court two proved to be the decider as Casey Kania and Logan Zapp recorded a 6-4 victory over Robin Catry and Yannai Barkai.

SINGLES RECAP
Despite entering singles down 1-0 in the team score, the match came down to the final singles court.

North Carolina went up 3-0 early behind Zapp's 6-2, 6-2 win over Luca Staeheli and Sigouin's 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Martins Rocens.

The Pack struck back, though, first with No. 113 Catry's straight-set 6-3, 6-2 takedown of Mac Kiger. Catry was joined in victory by Braden Shick, who tabbed a 6-4, 7-5 win over Peter Murphy on court six.

Damien Salvestre secured NC State's final win of the match, defeating Anuj Watane 6-4, 7-6(3).

Court one was close throughout and included two tiebreaker sets. No. 33 Brian Cernoch of North Carolina won the first set but fell in the second before coming back to claim the individual and Tar Heel team win. He defeated No. 91 Rafa Izquierdo Luque 7-6(3), 6-7(5), 6-3.

The 21st-ranked NC State men's tennis team (18-9, 6-6 ACC) will host a regional of the 2022 NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament, as announced by the NCAA on Monday.

The Pack's first-round matchup will see the squad take on Liberty Friday, May 6 at 5:00 p.m. A first-round win will see NC State take on either UNCW or 16-seed Middle Tennessee in the second round Saturday, May 7.

With the bid, NC State has held a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth-straight season in which the tournament has occurred, and the Pack has made the tournament in each season under head coach Kyle Spencer. The hosting honors additionally mark the first time that the Wolfpack has hosted in Spencer's tenure.

Sixteen teams will advance out of their regional to the round of 16, hosted at campus sites, beginning Friday, May 13. After the round of 16, all rounds will be held at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Ill. May 19-22.

Singles and doubles championship participants will be announced Tuesday, May 3, and action will take palce May 23-28.

The 20th-ranked NC State men's tennis team (18-9) will begin its 2022 NCAA Tournament Friday, May 6 at 5 p.m. as it hosts the first two rounds of the tournament. The Wolfpack will face Liberty (13-10) in the first round, and with a win will move on to face the winner of Middle Tennessee and UNCW Saturday, May 7 at 5 p.m.

ATTENDANCE INFORMATION
All three first- and second-round matches held at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center are free to attend.

Fans are required to obtain a virtual parking permit for Friday's matches, the instructions for which can be found here. All fans should park in the West Deck for all of the weekend's matches.

The No. 20 NC State men's tennis team (19-9) advanced to the second round of NCAA Tournament action with a 4-0 defeat of Liberty on Friday.

With the win, the Pack faces No. 19 Middle Tennessee State at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center Saturday, May 7 at 4 p.m.

DOUBLES RECAP
The Wolfpack opened its NCAA Tournament with a pair of doubles wins.

On court one, 54th-ranked Martins Rocens and Fons Van Sambeek made quick work of things with a 6-2 defeat of Nicaise Muamba and Rafael Marques de Silva.

Play was back-and-forth on courts two and three, but the Pack was able to come away with the team doubles point behind a comeback win by Braden Shick and Collin Shick. After facing a 3-4 deficit, the brothers won three straight games to get the 6-4 victory over Zion Heaven and Deji Thomas-Smith.

SINGLES RECAP
NC State won four of the five first sets that were completed, and two of its singles victories came in straight-set fashion.

On court four, Damien Salvestre cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Marques da Silva to bring home the first singles victory of the match.

Despite a tiebreaker in the first set, Rocens made quick work of the second set and got a 7-6(2), 6-1 win over Christiaan Worst to put NC State within reach of the team win.

The deciding match was played on court one where a three-set battle was underway. No. 98 Rafa Izquierdo Luque came out the victor with a gutsy 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over Josh Wilson.

SCOUTING THE BLUE RAIDERS
Middle Tennessee holds the top-seeded spot in the Raleigh Regional and enters its second-round matchup with a record of 28-4. In the Blue Raiders' first NCAA Tournament match, the squad handily defeated UNCW, 4-0.

Stijn Slump checks into the singles rankings at 65th while Francisco Rocha is ranked 100th. Rocha is additionally ranked in doubles with Oskar Brostrom Poulsen at No. 70.
