Gotta say...never really understood the "No Kings" theme. The USA was formed based on the notion, weve fought multiple wars over it. No matter how you feel about Trump, he was democratically elected, won every single swing state, and won the popular vote.
Maybe pick up a history book before creating idiotic themes
Jonah Goldberg nails it here.
Yea...I have no idea where this comes from. I dont know a single right winger that feels this way about Trump.
Also, what is the goal of this protest? What outcome are they looking to achieve?
Not sure what you mean about "where it comes from." If you mean the source, Goldberg is the founder of the right-center Dispatch, and whose bona fides WRT his conservative stances on all manners of topics are well-established.
If you're saying his opinions don't align with most Republicans that's not in dispute. His opinions are well-reasoned though, and there's obviously a subset of the right/center and a very high proportion of the left that feels the way he does.
As far as what the protests hope to achieve, same as any other protest I'm sure - raise awareness around the level of concern across the country for the lack of apparent democratic accountability in the Trump administration.
Political leaders have a harder time ignoring grievances if they believe there may be an electoral price to pay for their actions or inactions.
Where are the Pubs that want Trump to do whatever he wants? Please provide an actual example.
I do think most want him to govern without interference, particularly from the legislative branch. I dont think we are at the judicial tyranny some are screeching about, but I dont think you can argue that there are plenty of judges who have made some...lets call them questionable injunctions against Trump.
I do find your last two lines to be a bit ironic. Maybe if the Dems would have a bit of self reflection, they might understand why they got demolished in the 2024 election, but instead they seem hell bent on doubling down. Screeching about accountability when the last administration was led by a dude who doesnt have a clue what day of the week it is.
Where are the Pubs publicly criticizing or reigning in any of the quite possibly unconstitutional or illegal or non-normative acts so far this term?
The Republican Party has been captured by the cult. We literally have our President sending out videos of him dumping **** all over Americans becuase he doesn't like their opinions, and Press Secretaries telling snide Yo Mama jokes directed towards the press corps in response to normal questions because there is zero apparent accountability from anyone in the Administration towards the American people.
Tariffs
Birthright citizenship
Creation of DOGE and usurping of related powers normally reserved for Congress
Targeting law firms and attorneys via executive order
Blackmailing universities by witholding federal funding from universities unless they align politically with his goals
Extrajudicial killings of assumed drug runners in international waters
Impounding of funds allocated by Congress
Ignoring or defying immigration and other court orders
Blatant violations of the Hatch smearing Democrats in official White House and federal government correspondences and communications
Bailing out Argentina to the tune of tens of billions, all while China shifts more of its soybean purchasing to Argentina, which in turn necessitates propping up American soybean farmers even more
Completely transparent direction of his AG to pursue vindictive prosecution of Trump's political enemies
Governing by meme, and violating innumerable norms relating to the requisite professionalism and propriety of the office, including his most recent AI video of him literally dumping **** all over the heads of Americans, all while prices continue going up (due in no small part to his pointless tariffs) and America gets mired further in economic uncertainty and strife
And these are just the ones that are top of mind after thinking about it for two seconds. He literally does and says wild, potentially illegal, and certainly improper **** every day.
Any one analagous action to these from Obama or Biden would have been the source of neverending Fox News, OAN, and Newsmax coverage, along with calls for impeachment. With this Republican congress? Crickets.
There is no indication of a desire by Congressional Republicans other than, completely crazily, MTG, to speak up about any of this mess.
Protests like this remind our leaders that a sizeable fraction of America is in stark disagreement with these and other behaviors and actions and inactions. It's the only thing the public can do until the next election. It's literally the only power the people have.
Which is what makes the ridiculous attacks on the protests from Trump and Mike Johnson on down (including on social media and on here) as "hate America" protests or full of old people, or betas, or whatever, so childish and immature and unAmerican.
Tens of millions of Americans are unhappy. What would you have them do? Which is more likely effective, tweeting about it into the void, or millions of Americans mobilizing and protesting in a way that leaders see and will find harder to dismiss?
Who knows what changes, if anything, but I guarantee you more Congressional Republicans are talking about No Kings issues behind closed doors than they would have, had the protest marches not occurred.
