RALEIGH – NC State women’s basketball head coach Wes Moore has announced Brittany Morris will return to the staff as an assistant coach, as unveiled Friday. Morris previously served as an assistant for the Wolfpack from 2021-25 and a graduate assistant from 2015-17.

“We’re excited to bring Brittany back home,” said Moore. “She was instrumental to our Final Four run a couple of years ago both from a recruiting and player development standpoint. With her prior knowledge and experience, it should be a seamless transition, allowing us to hit the court running.”

Morris spent this past season at Louisville, in which the Cardinals finished with a 29-8 record and 15-3 mark in ACC play in 2025-26. The 29 wins tied for fifth all-time in program history, while the Cards advanced to the ACC Championship game for the fifth time in program history, as well as the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 as a No. 3 seed.

“NC State has always had a special place in my heart,” said Morris. “I’m excited to return to a place where we achieved championships and reached a Final Four. The opportunity to help grow and mentor young women while continuing to foster a championship culture is something I’m truly passionate about. I am thrilled to rejoin Wes Moore and his staff and am looking forward to making many more memories!”

In four seasons as an assistant at NC State, Morris accumulated an 111-30 overall record and 55-17 ACC mark. Three of the four seasons ended in AP top 10 finishes and all four seasons resulted in an NCAA Tournament appearance, highlighted by the Wolfpack’s second Final Four appearance in school history in 2024. That same season in 2023-24 was one of the most historic in program history, in which NC State finished 31-7 with a No. 4 final AP ranking and nine top 25 victories.

Under her guidance, NC State boasted one of the best backcourts in the country. Saniya Rivers and Aziaha James were two-time All-ACC First Team selections and were selected in the first round of the 2025 WNBA Draft with Rivers picked No. 8 overall by the Connecticut Sun and James 12th by the Dallas Wings. She also was big in the development of current guard Zoe Brooks, who was tabbed the 2025 ACC Most Improved Player and was an All-ACC First Team choice. That 2024-25 season ended with the Pack’s 17th NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance and a final No. 9 AP ranking.

She was also a part of the team’s quest through one of the toughest schedules in the nation in 2022-23, with that squad ending the campaign with a 20-12 record and a sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance. Rivers was named the ACC Sixth Player of the Year, the second straight honor for the Wolfpack.

Morris’ first season back with the Wolfpack was a memorable one, and she played a vital role in leading a star-studded group of NC State guards. Under her assistance, Diamond Johnson was named the 2022 ACC Sixth Player of the Year. In that 2021-22 campaign, Morris helped guide the Pack to its third-straight ACC Tournament title and its first regular season and tournament crown sweep since 1984-85. In addition to reaching the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight for the first time since 1998, the team won a program-record 32 games and finished the year ranked No. 3 in the AP Top 25.

Prior to her time in her hometown of Raleigh, Morris spent the 2020-21 season as an assistant coach at East Carolina. Before her stint with the Pirates, Morris spent three seasons on the UNCW staff from 2017-20. She helped the Seahawks win 13 home games in 2018-19, marking the most for the Seahawks since moving to Division I. Shrita Parker was named the USBWA National Player of the Week in January 2019 and was named to the All-CAA Second Team following the 2018-19 season under Morris’ guidance.

Morris took on more responsibility as the recruiting coordinator for UNCW in her last two years with the squad, as she helped bring in a top-100 recruiting class in 2018 and signed the top-ranked class in the CAA each of those seasons.

Morris started her collegiate coaching career at Virginia Tech as the video coordinator during the 2014-15 season. She then came to Raleigh as a graduate assistant from 2015-17, helping the team register a 43-20 combined record that included a 23-9 mark in 2016-17 and a second round NCAA Tournament appearance.

As a player, Morris was a four-year letterwinner for Seton Hall from 2009-13. She started three seasons for the Pirates and led Seton Hall in scoring (13.6 PPG) during the 2012-13 season on her way to earning All-Big East Second Team honors. Morris is ranked 26th in Seton Hall’s history with 997 career points and second all-time in career 3-pointers with 178. She also was an all-star in the classroom where she earned spots on the Big East All-Academic Team and the Dean’s List.

A Raleigh native, Morris earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Seton Hall in 2013 and her master’s degree in communications from NC State in 2017. She played high school basketball at Broughton High School before starting her collegiate career.
