Bargo's natural position is catcher. Would be interested to see if that option is on the board.

Fraasman can't be an everyday lineup guy next year.

lol. good lord

do tell, why?

He was a complete liability after the Clemson series.

In a lineup we need proven pop at the plate you can't not play Fraasman. You could also argue he almost single handedly won that series for us, without which we likely don't even make the tournament. Throw in there that he's also likely to get better next season…

Oh now THIS would be ideal

Don't see any way Mchugh plays anywhere but 1B or DH from what he showed last season. Got better options defensively elsewhere than putting him in OF

We haven't even seen him play the OF and he can't be any worse than Hogue out there.

Has also been mentioned that he was transitioning to OF next year.

I mean you say that... but he 100% could be. There is a reason he was at first base and not in the outfield last year.

I like:

2B - Nixon
LF - McHugh
DH - Fargo
1B - Novy
CF - Head
RF - Fraasman/Wiggins
C - Lanphere
3B - Peifer
SS - Ryan/Johnson

This is the offseason so none of us have any idea what the staff will do, but I just can't imagine one of Fraasman or Wiggins being on the bench. I get McHugh needs to move to the outfield for pro prospects but man I'd like him to stay at 1B.

No offense to McHugh but I don't really care what he needs to do for his pro prospects. That is what off season summer ball and pre draft work outs are for. If he's our best option at 1B (because we have better defensive options that can hit in the OF) then he needs to be 1B.

He's about as proven and productive a bat as we have. Zero reason to move him to slot in a unknown/small sample size guy like Novy to start. Id argue i'd rather have Fraasman/Head/Wiggins in OF with McHugh at 1B and Fargo at DH than I would Wiggins on bench, NOvy at 1B and McHugh at OF. First seems like a better option IMO and is better option with both bat and glove considered.

Dalton Bargo is at 3 DRS, according to Ethan. Andrew Wiggins is at 0 DRS.

McHugh will get plenty of opportunity in the OF before he's moved back to 1B; he's likely on par defensively with either of those two guys (at worst), AND because the coaches will stick with their word to attempt to boost his draft stock.

............

If Bargo can actually play catcher at this level... we have our best hitting lineup (on paper):

Nixon (2B)
Mchugh (LF)
Wiggins (DH)
Bargo (C)
Novy (1B)
Head (CF)
Fraasman/Mitchell (RF) --> Fraasman's job if he's back, ofc
Peifer (3B)
Johnson/Ryan (SS)

Now that is a deep lineup capable of getting to Omaha.

Yea because you had Hogue, Head and Fraasman out there. Only other options at first were true freshman Novy who came in as a third baseman and Ossenfort who never got in the game there.

This is like Groover and Eli who we played at first to get their bats in the lineup and then let them play third and center the next year when there was an opening. That worked out pretty well.

Unless it's not and McHugh is not a good player in the outfield. He looks like a fine athlete for 1B but I don't see anything that screams great outfielder.

As I said, makes a lot more sense to me to leave him at 1B and have Wiggins/Bargos somewhere in the field (OF or IN, put Nixon in OF if needed) and Novy getting bats off the bench when we need a pinch hit.

This guy?

Florida baseball's sophomore southpaw Frank Menendez has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to a report from Swamp247 on Thursday.

The 6-foot-1-inch sophomore originally from Miami, Florida, only appeared in five games last season out of the bullpen, amassing a 1-0 record with a 1.29 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and .185 batting average against before an arm injury ended his 2025 campaign. His strong start also included 12 strikeouts versus three walks in seven innings while posting a 15.4 K/9, 3.9 BB/9 and 4.0 K:BB ratio.

Really hard to say what's going to happen -

My gut says Devin Mitchell is going to play and play a lot. Same for Brandon Novy. Also think Ryan will start at SS. I think Bargo is going to DH a lot and could be a LF or 3B if someone isn't swinging it. Or like has been mentioned, maybe catch some.

Lots of options.

What would your lineup be? Not disagreeing, and I think Mitchell could very good, but curious to see who you think sits.

Also, I reallly like Sherman Johnson, but I am absolutely not sleeping on Ryan either

Rotation - Marohn, Dudan, Nance
Bullpen - Consiglio, Peissel, Black, Andrews, Garino - freshman

C- Lanphere, Bargo (?), Bonn
1B - Novy
2B - Nixon
SS - Ryan/Johnson
3B - Peifer/Bargo
LF - McHugh/Wiggins
CF - Head
RF - Fraasman/Mitchell

DH - Bargo, McHugh, Wiggins, Mitchell

My gosh, when you start writing it out you think how are all these guys going to play. They obviously aren't. But when you look at this years roster vs. last years, I like that this one is going to have a lot more guys with a lot more experience and not as much - "potential". If Bargo can catch at a high level, that is a huge deal. But Lanphere is good behind the plate - maybe he swings it well. McHugh can play 1B if Novy doesnt do what we think he can and will. Bargo and Novy can both play presumably either corner. Wiggins is a guy that if the talent is tapped into could be one of the best players on the team. Ryan could be a budding superstart - being a backup on the national champs behind the best SS in college baseball - who knows what we have there.

Got some options, and from guys that have played.
