How did novy play defensively for the Salamanders in his first game? He was at 3B supposedly

Since it was a scrimmage no stats but he did well

Will he be playing 3B for them all summer? Would be great for us for him to get that work in there.

Watching the supers today, home runs everywhere. Five home runs in Durham on the first couple innings.

We need a big time power infusion on our roster to get back to where we want to be.

I mean yes, we need more "power" but I think that will come with some guys getting a year older/stronger. Ty Head "just missed" quite a few bombs this year, with another year in the weight room that warning track power turns into HRs, IMO.

We've already discussed McHugh and his power profile, just need Hart/BoRob to work on that, the power profile is there.

Hogue/Fraasamn are already double digit HR guys. Fraasman has some big pop, just needs to adjust his approach at the plate a lil bit.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Sosa have another jump in power similar to what we saw in Cozart from SO to JR year (10 to 19).

Where we need the boost is from our 3B next year. We got .265 9 and 55 out of 3 different dudes playing 3rd. We need to find and old dude in the AMak/Ben Miller (minus the stupid 'stache) mold. haha. They were/are grown ass men.

Novy has big time power and lord only knows how many he will park with a full season in the lineup next year.

Devin Mitchell is coming in from Flo-Dar JUCO with 16 HRs over two seasons, hitting 12 as a FR last year. He's 6'1 205-210 so he's got some size as well.

If Hogue/Fraasman go in the draft (stranger things have happened, I guess) Mitchell can easily slot into one of the corner OF spots from the jump, IMO.

Agree on 3B production, I also wouldn't hate seeing trying to get more power at first if you could slide McHugh to corner OF spot but I am fine with him staying at first as well.

I know this is a late post. But I just wanted to draw attention again to how absolutely freaking absurd it is that Ty Head went 6-6 stealing bases this year.

That's how you offset the teams lack of power production. Turn a single into a double by stealing a base. Like in any sport you have to have ways to put pressure on opposing defenses.

The most ridiculous stat from this season, IMO

Hogue had one less SB than Fraasman, Decriscio and Heavner combined.

3B Novy50
1B C.McHugh27
T.Lyons12 LF or RF

I am a big of an Avent fan as there is. But man that was a tough pill to swallow.

I said it before but I honestly believe he didn't change his mentality from 24 to 25. He treated this team like he still had Amak Pennington and Cozart.
JCooke93

Yup
Jtilley
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The only defense I will say about Avent is this was one of the worst base running teams I have ever seen. They ran into multiple outs a game it seemed like, so maybe that was part of the reason to not run more?
PGAWolf
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I had a little time on my hands this morning

Here's what needs to happen to make it to Omaha next year according to PGAWolf.

-McHugh and Sosa need to hit for more power. It's draft year for both of them. Power is what gets you drafted. I would expect both of them to know that. I don't know if that will be a good thing or bad thing.

-Nixon and Head need to get stronger and stop pimping balls that fly to the warning track.

-Houge needs to improve on defense.

- Novy needs to be the real deal with the bat and play a half decent 3rd base

- need a slick fielding SS a bat would be a plus. I would take another Butterworth from the portal

- then you probably need one more bat. I would take the best one you can possibly get regardless of position., really need this one to click

Pitching

-Dudan to become a weekend starter/ got to be able to use his fastball more often. Adding a change up would be a plus

- Nance needs to become a starter.

-probably need a transfer bullpen piece or two and one or two returners to take that next step. *this one could be scary.

From that here would be my lineup.

1. Nixon/Head (I would prefer Nixon because I think Head has better chance to bulk up and be a middle of the order guy)

2. Best hitter- McHugh

3. Houge

4. Hopefully a big time transfer bat with some pop

5. Sosa

6. Novy

7. Nixon/Head

8. Frassman/Transfer/ Lyons

9. Hopefully that slick fielding SS

- More speed and willingness to steal bags.
- Less bunting l, except for certain late game situations
- More work on running the bases (when ball is in play). Situational work is what I mean. Guys look lost sometimes.
- More emphasis on week day games. Start the Sunday starter if you have to and let him pitch 4-5 innings.
- Find your top 7-8 arms and use the hell out of them.

Agree with the running and whatnot, it was weird we didn't run more with our roster this year. As already discussed, definitely some numbers that didn't make sense.

For the bunting- we were 9th in the ACC in sac bunts, at 21. Heavner had 16 of those. Avent hasn't used small ball in the past few years.

And disagree with the mid week emphasis. We don't need to use a Sunday guy to beat most of the mid week guys. I am the opposite. I wish we would use more guys mid week to see what they got. We SHOULD have enough decent arms/bats to beat most school we play mid week. But if Peisel is our midweek guy next year, let him go 3-4 innings on a Wednesday and maybe a couple innings against better competition on the weekend.

I would be surprised if Novy can handle 3B with his size. I guess we will see what happens there. Novy looks more like a 1B.

He's draft eligible though, he ain't transferring anywhere unless he doesn't get the asking price he wants.

Catcher is not really a highly paid position to start with and Bailey isnt getting a megadeal unless he starts hitting. He'll make enough to have a nice life but if you want "**** you" money type paychecks to start rolling in youre gonna have to go back to the well with Trea and Carlos

Is DeCarlo still coming to state? I thought he was good friends with aden Knowles

I'm not sure how I feel about Luke at SS....Definitely need another strong defensive MIF from the portal to push him in the SS vs. 2B battle
StateFan2001
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Luke has the athleticism and arm strength to play at SS
