That sucks but in today's game nothing can be unexpected. There's a few good looking players in the portal, just hope we aren't too far behind recruiting them.

I am torn on Sosa, I don't see him catching in pro ball or making it very far with his defense and contact issues unless they are greatly improved.

Go find a guy that can frame, play defense and hit .250 with five HR's and it is an upgrade.
So much for running it back. Lol!!! Needed his bat and with lanphere moving on as well, it definitely creates a gap. Hopefully we land a good one. Would have been great to get that Duke catcher that committed to the cheats this week…

I know we've been spoiled by the run of great catchers we've had, and while Sosa was not up to the level of cozart or any of the other recent guys, he was an above average catcher and hitter.
Lets not write off Preston Bonn. Redshirted last year.
First transfer that really stings IMO. He was a good player that has potential to be very good. He was poised for a big junior year if it all clicked

I would agree to disagree with that. He is currently a below average defensive and framing catcher. I like him and if he comes back great but he is not great defensively.ChemE94 said:Jtilley said:

Just some random pitching thoughts on where things stand as of now-
Top 5 dudes: Dudan, Nance, Marohn, Peisel, Garino. Can't afford to lose any of the top 3 IMO and I would assume (hope?) that is our weekend starting rotation with Peisel taking the midweek. Garino, if he can keep the ball in the park, should be a solid bullpen arm.
X factors: Wimbish, Consiglio. Pretty obvious here, Wimbish has the stuff to be a backend bullpen dude, can he put it together? I think we are all hoping for a Fritton type bounce back for Consiglio, he was very good as a freshman.
Unknowns- Landon Carr, T. Manuel, Kaden Morris, Potts. Carr had a great 2 year career at JUCO, but only threw 1 inning this year, so I am ASSUMING he was hurt. Manuel and Morris were hurt, but Manuel was up to 95 out of HS and Morris was a top 10 player in the state. Anything you can get from these guys would be huge. Potts wasn't used much this year, but when he was he got some dudes out. Can the lefty take a step up in stuff and give us innings or is he a situational guy?
The rest (aka freshmen)- Not counting on CJ Grey, but besides him some decent arms coming in. Sam Harris has insane off speed stuff and he is my sleeper to get innings this year. Ragusa is a kid up to 95 and Hemric is a lefty that was an all-state dude who put up great numbers.
All in all I think we need to add 2-3 more arms (atleast?) assuming we are optimistic about the health of the unknowns. BUT I don't think we are in a bad spot pitching wise, however Chysler is going to earn that paycheck getting some of these dudes right.
