I've watched him leave pitchers in for way to long all year. He never takes risks when needed. He doesn't play to win. Tell me why every one of his teams for the past 20 years, peter out 2/3rd of the way through a season. Is it bad conditioning, terrible leadership? His players are not mentally tough and that comes down to bad coaching. If he were the basketball or football coach, he would have been gone years ago.

The man that some of y'all work tirelessly at defending week in and week out, year in and year out, just lost the season series to Campbell (I REPEAT- lost the SEASON SERIES to CAMPBELL) with game 3 of the series being the biggest game of the year.

I said this in another thread but it wasn't Avent's fault that Wilson had one of the worst performances I've ever seen (3 errors leading to all 5 runs, all unearned from the ACC POY and 0-4 with 4 strikeouts at the plate)? Baseball managers take too much heat for a game like baseball where skill and luck >>> strategy.

Having said that, McArthur looks super lost at the plate and playing him there was a terrible move. Not sure why Tresh isn't starting over him

Tresh needs to play more without a doubt.

Maybe it's time for Boo to thank Elliott for all he's done for NCSU the last 25 years and offer him a retirement package and go in another direction.

Tresh, who I really like, is a catcher. We definitely don't want him I'm right field. We tried to hide him in left field a few times, which works as long as nobody hits the ball to left. McArthur, Tatum, and Brown have all been given ample time in right, but none have separated from the others, so they rotate. A case could be made for Tresh to DH, and he has, but at this point, he's basically either going to strike out, or hit a homer. Despite slumping during the season, Debo has shown to be a better hitter. The reality is that there is give and take with most every player, sometimes you sacrifice hitting to be more solid in the field, and vice versa. If everyone was great in the field and great at the plate, we'd be hosting a super right now. The reality is, we did well early in the year playing around our weaknesses with opportunistic hitting and putting pressure on the other teams defense. This team's margin of error has always been small, things went in our favor earlier this year, and have gone against of late. It's baseball.

Obviously it's late, most likely too late but with some luck we aren't out of it. Need Quin...to take down ecu and our bats to get ridiculously hot. One inning at a time.

2 points. 1) We're not dead yet. 2). The reason we flail around in the tourney every year is our starting pitching. Sure, we lose in a variety of ways; in specific ways that may not be simply due to starting pitching. But overall, that is our biggest weakness. The last legit starter we had was Ryan Williamson. Before that, Rodon.

How did ECU snag Agnos? UNC got Bukauskas a few years ago. Does EA even recruit Northern Virginia? I guess the Cranford, NJ pipeline has dried up as well.

Brian Brown wasn't "legit"? ACC pitcher of the year and all last year.
We have to get some arms to not go the way of the draft. Hopefully that starts with Chrysler and his (hopeful) ability to project kids and cross your fingers that Blake Walston wants to attend college. Same with big ol Austin Pace (6'11) and Matt Willadsen from Holly Springs. He's been lights out his SR year.

We've got a couple Va kids on the roster in Justice (Richmond), Bienlien and Kent Klyman (Tidewater area) so we are in Va some. We've got a SS signed from the DMV area (Jose Torres), he's a potential high draft pick. Not a lot out there on him.
Lost a Maryland kid to the draft last year too (Jake Zebron).

Chrysler and Hart are Florida guys so we'll stay there as heavy as ever I assume.

Brian Brown was a good college pitcher. We've had a number of good pitchers the past 5 years. I'm talking about stud pitchers, like Rodon. That's how a team overcomes a bad hitting game or a bad fielding game. Maybe we'll get one again some day.

Brian Brown was a better pitch than Ryan Williamson. Sorry, he just was. Brown did it for 4 years. So, if you're talking about "stud" pitchers (Brown was a stud dude) and not considering Brown then Rodon is the last guy.

Louisville took an L to Illinois State (who knew they fielded a team)

Either way, we've had a dearth of high level starting pitching. And that is the only answer to overcome erratic play and coaching decisions during the ACC and NCAA tourneys.

Dearth of studs? Sure, I agree with that.
But we've had plenty of number one's that were really good (Buchanan, Shunick, Mazzoni, Surkamp, etc).
Our problem has been lacking the 3rd guy. Even the CWS team lacked that Sunday starter. Thankfully, the bullpen had several guys that could go long (and were really good at it) once Jernigan never made it out of the 2nd or 3rd inning.
