Wasn't expecting a win over #9 after the home loss to #21 Harvard. As with other sports, the early season rankings don't mean much in many cases.

22nd-ranked NC State men's tennis took down ninth-ranked Mississippi State by a 4-1 score Sunday evening to advance to the 2025 ITA Division I Men's National Team Indoor Championship next month.

NC State earned its first top-10 win since the 2022 season Sunday evening with a riveting win over ninth-ranked Mississippi State in Starkville to earn a qualification for the 2025 ITA DI Men's National Team Indoor Championship tournament.

Facing two top-20 ranked duos in doubles didn't sway the Wolfpack's fight for the doubles point to start the match. On court two, Jules Leroux and Luca Staeheli came up with a commanding 6-3 victory over Mississippi State's 20th-ranked Niccolo Baroni and Mario Martinez Serrano to put the Pack in front.

Courts one and three went wire-to-wire on the potential of who would finish first or secure the doubles point for their team. On three, Martin Borisiouk and Noah Gabriel battled through an extensive tiebreaker to look for the second victory needed but it was Braden Shick and Fons Van Sambeek on court one who finished their tiebreaker first, securing the doubles point and a top-10 duo win.

Moving into singles with the 1-0 edge on the scoreboard, the Pack faced ranked opponents on courts one, two, four, and five.

Staeheli continued to prove he was there to handle business after a successful doubles win, followed by a dominating 6-0, 6-4 singles point on court three to put his team up 2-0.

Van Sambeek fell on court four in two sets to allow the Bulldogs to get on the scoreboard and keep their options open.

Ultimately, Shick came up with another impressive ranked win on the day to put the Wolfpack in arms reach of the top-10 victory. He was able to cruise through his first set 6-2, but had to work through a tiebreaker in the second set to take down 45th-ranked Petar Jovanovic.

Very quickly after, the redshirt-freshman Leroux sealed his two set win on court six to seal the deal for NC State.

Pack men's tennis players Jules Leroux and Luca Staeheli took home all ACC men's weekly awards, as announced by the conference office Tuesday, January 28. Leroux was named Freshman of the Week and Staeheli was named Player of the Week while the duo was named together as the Doubles Team of the Week.

The two each went undefeated in both doubles and singles throughout three matches in the last week, including ranked matches with No. 21 Harvard and No. 9 Mississippi State. Across all six singles matches, the players won in two-straight sets.

Together they tallied a top-20 doubles win taking down 20th-ranked Baroni and Serrano of Mississippi State in their ITA Kickoff regional championship match this past Sunday.

21st-ranked NC State men's tennis collected its second straight ranked win on Friday evening when they defeated No. 17 Michigan by a 4-2 score.

NC State took another ranked win Friday evening, comfortably taking down 17th-ranked Michigan on the road.

After sweeping ACC weekly awards last week, Jules Leroux and Luca Staeheli continued to showcase their dominance when they secured the first doubles win on court two, giving their team momentum. They were followed up by Martin Borisiouk and Noah Gabriel winning on court three to ensure the doubles point to the Pack.

In singles, William Manning fell in two sets on court five to 113th-ranked Patorn Hanchaikul to even out the scoreboard 1-1.

Three consecutive singles victories clinched the win for NC State to improve to 5-1 on the season. Borisiouk and Shick took their courts in commanding two set wins, followed by Leroux taking his in three after dropping the second set.

Staeheli then fell in three sets on court two, while Van Sambeek's match on court four was not played out entirely.

21st-ranked NC State men's tennis was defeated 4-1 by sixth-ranked Columbia on Sunday afternoon to finish its back-to-back ranked road stretch for the weekend.

NC State was handed its second loss of the season by No. 6 Columbia on Sunday afternoon, both losses that the team holds are to opponents in the top-25. The Wolfpack was only able to collect two total wins on the day, one in doubles and one in singles.

Once again, Jules Leroux and Luca Staeheli had yet another unstoppable day as a duo together to try and push for the doubles point for their team. On court four in singles, Fons Van Sambeek got the lone point for the Pack to prevent his team from being shut out when he defeated Max Westphal in two sets.
