Good start for Camacho. Completely dominated his opponent on their feet.

Got real dicey at the end but Orine hangs on and beats the UNC kid again.

Bad loss by Jack. Couldn't get out from bottom at the end of the first. Did nothing in the second period. Took too long to get out in the third and didn't have enough time to get a takedown to win it. Lacked the aggressiveness you need to win matches in this tournament.

Very timid wrestling from Tariq but always in control. Hopefully that calms the nerves and he can get back to his game.

Ed Scott with the big time pin in the second period to bring home some team points!

Took the ref long enough. Ed had him pinned for a second or two before the ref finally got there

Bullard, well, Bullard. Didn't expect much.

And now a pin for H. Hidlay! Big time team point boost with 2 wins for the Pack already.

I turned it off after he gave up a takedown.

Trent Hidlay works til the final whistle to get the major decision. The guys buying in to earning team points, just like at ACC's. Doing the extra work today can be the difference tomorrow night.

Thats a bad loss for Trumble. Just gave that match away. He looked completely gassed in the third period.

Houghton loses a close one, 3-2.

State finishes the first round 6-4.

Wins by Camacho, Orini, Wilson, Scott (pin), H Hidlay (pin), and T Hidlay (major dec)
Losses by Jack, Bullard, Trumble, Houghton

Probably should've been 8-2. Jack and Trumble with winnable matches and didn't get it done. We'll really need the two of them to get some wins in the consolation rounds to recoup the team points.

Jack and Trumble both lost bc they couldn't get an escape. Not Jack's first time this season either. That can't happen.

Houghton should have won his. He had a leg in the air in the third and let the guy hop him out of the circle. Tariq looked gassed to me at the end of the match.

Houghton, and heavyweights in general, are so tough to call. Those legs are heavy and Houghton is not strong enough in neutral to really score.

Actually with Tariq I think he got the **** scared out of him when his opponent nearly tied it on the edge of the mat. Tariq was not in attack mode like he was at ACC's.

CONSOLATION

165 | Bout #303 - #21 seed Thomas Bullard vs. #28 seed Cael Carlson (Minnesota)

285 | Bout #335 - #21 seed Tyrie Houghton vs. #28 seed Michael McAleavey (Air Force)

Couple thoughts:

- 5th place in the team race, its early but in a good spot
- Huge opportunity for Camacho and Orine to turn their brackets upside down
- Wilson, Scott, and the Hidlays in good position, just have to take care of business and wrestle smart
- Good draws for our consolation guys. No top seeds got upset and sent down to face them tonight.

Six of the 10 NCAA qualifiers from the NC State Wrestling team won their first round match and moved into tonight's second round. Among the Pack's six wins, three went for bonus points, including a pair of pins.

All 10 will be in action tonight, as the remaining four will be in the consolation rounds.

Action resumes at 7 p.m., and will be televised on ESPN2 in addition to all eight mats being streamed on WatchESPN.

If our big 4 win and all our consolation guys win we should be in good shape. If Orine or Camacho can pull an upset we are in really good shape.

Is there any way to know when our guys are wrestling and on which mat? Seems like in the past there was any easy way to follow the mat schedules in real time, but I haven't been able to find it this year.
The Pack Wrestling twitter account makes it easy. They'll even post the link to the right feed for each match.

https://twitter.com/PackWrestle

I try to stay away from twitter if at all possible. Just not a fan of the company and their way of doing things. I do appreciate the reply, though. Thank you.

I actually did find what I was looking for, too...so for anyone interested, check this out:

https://www.trackwrestling.com/Login.jsp

Click on the NCAA Division I Championships link (should be the first one listed), then click "Enter Event", then use the Mat Assignment menu on the left to get mat schedules updated in real time, sorted by Mat, Team or Weight. I find it quite useful for finding out which Mat stream to be on when our next guy is up.

Let's get it, boys!!
Log off. Go outside.

Big wins for Scott and Wilson.

Also, the 1 seed at 157 was upset. That is huge for Ed Scott as the 4 seed

Good deal that nobody has been eliminated yet. Hopefully they can keep stacking points.

What is the point allocation for wins?
Is it less in the consolation brackets than the championship brackets?

Packchem91 said:

Everything in consolation is going to be 0.5 less than in the winners bracket. A win in winners is 1 by itself, its 0.5 in consolation. I believe bonus points are going to be the same in both. So a pin will be 3 points in winners bracket vs Trumble earning 2.5 in consolation

Bonus Points
  • Each fall, forfeit, default, disqualification: 2 points
  • Each tech fall (w/ near fall points): 1.5 points
  • Each tech fall (w/o near fall points): 1 point
  • Each major decision: 1 point
