Is fatigue much of an issue with this format, such that getting the double bye is a big advantage with respect to the other two teams we could face?

since regular season is usually 2 matches over 2 to 3 days, I doubt fatigue is an issue

.@PackWTennis took the doubles point in its quarterfinals matchup with Georgia Tech but was unable to capitalize on the early lead, falling 4-3 after only Alana Smith and Adriana Reami were able to win their singles matchups.

That's a bad loss for team. Will hurt short term national perception of program after a very strong run late in regular season...
A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

For the second time in as many national tournaments, the NC State women's tennis team has been selected to host the first two rounds of the 2021 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships. The Wolfpack (16-5) will take on VCU 14-9) in the first round on Friday, May 7 and will also welcome South Carolina (12-11) and Iowa State (13-7) to Raleigh for regional action.

A win over the Rams in the first round would advance the Pack to the second round, where it would face the winner of the match between the Gamecocks and Cardinals on Saturday, May 8. All matches in the Raleigh Regional are set to be played at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.

ATTENDANCE INFO:
Due to capacity guidelines from both the NCAA and the state of North Carolina, seating in the stadium area is limited to family members and guests of participating teams only. The general public is free to view the match from the grass hill outside the facility. Should any matches be moved indoors, they will be closed to the public.

MATCH SCHEDULE:
Match times are forthcoming, but a general schedule for the Raleigh Regional is included below.

Friday, May 7
Match 1: South Carolina vs. Iowa State
Match 2: NC State vs. VCU

Saturday, May 8
NCAA Second Round: winners of first round matches

ABOUT THE PACK:
The selection marks NC State's 11th overall berth for the NCAA Championships and is its fifth season in a row qualifying for the postseason event under the leadership of head coach Simon Earnshaw. It continues the Pack's program-best NCAA Championships streak.

The Pack continues postseason action having been ranked in the national top 10 in each of the last four polls. The team reached a season-best No. 4 in the middle of April and has been featured in the top 15 every week since Feb. 26, 2019.

In total, the Wolfpack defeated seven nationally-ranked opponents on its way to posting a 16-5 record. Three members of the team were recognized as 2021 All-ACC honorees following the conference tournament, marking the most for the program in a single season.

NC State won nine of its final 10 matches of the regular season on its way to finishing third in the ACC standings. That included a seven-game winning streak that included six-straight ACC victories from March 12 through April 1. In the midst of that streak, the Pack most notably earned big 4-3 road wins at No. 29 Miami and No. 13 Duke.

UP NEXT:
First and second round NCAA Tournament matches will take place at campus sites across the nation this weekend. The teams that advance to the Sweet 16 will meet at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla., to finish out the tournament beginning on May 16.

The singles and doubles championships will also be played in Lake Nona from May 23-28 following the conclusion of team competition. The individual qualifiers for those brackets are set to be released Tuesday.
