Glad this thread came back around, though after only having a protein shake for lunch, seeing Tootie's picture is making me slobber.

Also....almost every Charlottean has heard this, but the last month has been painful for the ol'time favorites. Both Prices' Chicken Coop and Zack's Hamburgers have closed. Small family run operations, myriad of reasons decided to move on. Whatever other reasons we want to assign to why both closed...one sure thing, family-run restaurants is difficult business!
Yeah sucks to see Prices' go. I heard they owned the land that the restaurant was on. Rumor is they're going to sell it. If they do, they'll make a nice chunk of change
Yes, the owner essentially blamed Covid-issues, which is fine, and perhaps contributed, or at least made operations difficult. But yes, heard he stood to also sell and make $$ -- and more power to him.

For Zack's, I read that the owner basically said he was tired. Always there, never a break. Hard to blame someone for that. And two, thats likely a pretty $$ property as well nowadays.

Them being close to uptown probably didn't help. Being in the restaurant arena, I know quite a few places like Prices (primarily takeout) that made more money last year than they ever have. Operations were strained for sure as everyone else.

Have to grind to be in that space, for sure. Not for everyone.

For the best in country cooking in the Triangle area, Angie's Restaurant in Garner is the best !
We get food for my Father from there 2-3 times a week.

Here is the Friday special ....flounder, shrimp, and oysters, with collards, pinto beans, baked potato, and special strawberry cake. Very generous servings and delicious !!

We live south of Garner, have our whole life and have never eaten there. Always talk about it, just never have gone.

Please go if you get a chance. On Saturdays, there is a wait, and it starts early. The breakfast meals are very generous portions and delicious. During the week, there is always a very good crowd at both breakfast and lunch, especially on Fridays.

Yes, I'm biased and have lived in Garner almost my entire life, so I will do a little bragging if I think it deserves bragging on. Stop in one day for breakfast or lunch. I believe that you will enjoy your meal.

Pasted there a few minutes ago, leaving NAPA, and saw the wait outside. Will give it a try.

How was PR? What did you get? I went there weekly before Covid.
Place looks the same but has had many improvements made. The new windows are excellent and it still has the same feel. The food was good just like before and have many of the old employees back. They have not brought back the chefs weekend menus yet, but it's just like old times. Oh, and they are closed Tues and Weds to give staff a break as they still are not fully staffed.

Might head there today. Thanks!

Had the crab cakes Tuesday night. Outstanding!!! Not your typical NC card cakes; more like Baltimore crab cakes. Highly recommend the roof top bar there...

Went to Island Grill in Atlantic Beach the other night and it was really good. Crab cakes slightly below Caribsea.

Coming to Raleigh for work and need a nice restaurant. Most of these suggestions are not in Raleigh. Good restaurants that are open on a Monday night?

Not sure where you may be staying, but on a Monday night, you could hit up Trophy Brewing off Morgan St. and get their Detriot style pizza (served Mondays only). And beer obviously.

If any of you ever make it to central Honduras, keep an eye out for Power Chicken. There are 3-4 of them around the country, so I guess not totally "local", but the carne asada with fried plantains and black rice as sides, with some kind of green chimichurri sauce all mixed in is a great meal. I've only ever been to the one in Villanueva

It gets crowded there but it's worth it if you ask me.

I went to Hillman's brewery in Asheville (also one on Old Fort) for lunch last week and it was great! Owned by State Alum and they refuse to show Carolina games adds to the appeal as well.

Best cheeseburgers are at Culivers in clayton, try the butter cheeseburger and add grilled onions & mayonnaise.
That is the best I have ever eaten, the quality of meat is way better than your typical fast food restaurant.

I'm a sucker for a good hot dog... other than Roast Grill, I haven't found any better than my own:

Sabrett Brand Hot Dog
Any standard Buns
Patterson's chili
Grill till blackened
Simple Mustard and Ketchup

Patterson's chili? Not sure I've seen this before. Available most anywhere?

Here's another suggestion. My sister and three of her friends had dinner here on Friday night. She had the Steak Frites, and said it was the best she'd ever eaten. It, too, is a nice place and is open on Monday.

You have to look around. I'm sure it's available at Food Lion or HT.

I'm a fan of Cloos. Great family and really good dogs. Like Roast grill also but be sure not to ask for Ketchup! My sleeper is Steve's place over by Triangle Town.

I went there back when it was newly opened and came away disappointed with the service. If I'm paying that much for a meal, I want the service to match that level. Good to hear that hopefully they have righted the ship in that regard.

Tried Mookies, in Cary. Not bad at all. They bring in the bagels from NY.

309 Bistro and Waterman's are really good here in Edenton. I like walking over to Emilio's for lunch. Its a sandwich shop but he does great sandwiches
Just now seeing this thread, but you're right. Edenton has some good dining options these days. Especially compared to my early years there when all you had was a Hardees. I don't live there anymore, but get back several times a year. That new BBQ place at the old marina is good too. Back when Waterman's first opened up...man, that was a game changer!

In Nags Head:
- Tortuga's is the best. Great burgers and dishes with a Jamaican flare.
- Blue Moon has a little of everything. Always a great meal.
- Biscuits & Porn. Leave the kids at home and grab some awesome biscuits.
- Mama Kwan's for fish tacos.
- For something fancier, Ocean Blvd. in Kitty Hawk is fantastic.

For great off the boat seafood, drive down to Wanchese and eat at O'Neal's Sea Harvest. Restaurant is connected to the seafood market, all right on the dock. May be the best $ deal for the freshest seafood in the area.

There is a place down in Morehead city by our place named Grump's that we eat at just about every morning when we are down there. Nothing fancy but good.

We have eaten breakfast at Grumpy's many times. Always good food. That ultimate skillet breakfast is enough to hold you all day long.
