Also....almost every Charlottean has heard this, but the last month has been painful for the ol'time favorites. Both Prices' Chicken Coop and Zack's Hamburgers have closed. Small family run operations, myriad of reasons decided to move on. Whatever other reasons we want to assign to why both closed...one sure thing, family-run restaurants is difficult business!
For Zack's, I read that the owner basically said he was tired. Always there, never a break. Hard to blame someone for that. And two, thats likely a pretty $$ property as well nowadays.
Them being close to uptown probably didn't help. Being in the restaurant arena, I know quite a few places like Prices (primarily takeout) that made more money last year than they ever have. Operations were strained for sure as everyone else.
Have to grind to be in that space, for sure. Not for everyone.
