Was a quick but wild ride last night. A lot of power outages but vast majority has been restored other than the path of the tornado. Tornado kinda kicked a field goal and split the difference between OIB and Sunset Beach coming right through Ocean Ridge Plantation and crossed Hwy 17 and on through Old Shallotte Rd. Prayers for the ones that lost their lives and those that were injured. I personally have a family member that lost their house but are safe with no injuries. Please keep them in prayer for the rebuild.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning and a Winter Weather Advisory for Thursday due to the potential for significant ice accumulation.

Freezing rain will be likely north and west of Raleigh while other locations will see just rain.

RELATED: CBS 17 Storm Team Interactive Radar

Significant icing is expected north and west of the Triangle. Total ice accumulations could be one-quarter to one-half inch, with locally higher accumulations. This will likely create issues on the roads and along the Interstate 85 corridor. Ice conditions will also likely leady to power outages and downed trees.

The Winter Storm Warning includes Person, Granville, Vance, Warren, Orange, and Durham counties in North Carolina, and Mecklenberg County in Virginia. It will be in effect from midnight on Thursday until 7 a.m. Friday. Impacts will include power outages and tree damage. Travel could become very hazardous and could impact the morning and evening commutes.

The Winter Weather Advisory includes most of central NC. Areas south of the Triangle will see just rain. This advisory will take effect at midnight on Thursday until 7 a.m. Friday. Freezing rain is expected, mainly in the morning hours. Total ice accumulations of around one-tenth of an inch will be possible

According to the @NOAA only three states in the US have no snow on the ground right now: Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

Just thinking about that, that is a sobering statement. Damn. I hate winter and cold weather.

NWS Raleigh

So far the highest ice reports in central NC are about 0.15 inch in the coldest counties (Forsyth, Guilford, Person), mainly on trees & elevated surfaces. Precipitation has been spotty which has helped limit ice accumulations so far. Any additional reports are appreciated! #ncwx

WNCN is non committed

WRAL
A cold, wet Thursday could end with another round of freezing rain and light ice accumulation after midnight, according to WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.

In the Triangle, temperatures will drop into the low 30s overnight, but roadways are expected to remain clear. Any impacts from the overnight rain will be minimal as temperatures rise and the sun comes out Friday afternoon.

With an additional 0.41" at RDU on Feb 21, we're still in 3rd place with 16.48" and 0.76" away from the record. Setting the record remains a possibility with rain expected this weekend.
