Update: RDU is now up to 17.21" this meteorological winter, making it the 2nd-wettest winter ever and only 0.02" from the all-time record of 17.23" in 1983-1984! Will that record be broken? With little rain expected for the rest of today & tomorrow, we will have to see! #ncwx

We posted a graphic a few days ago showing how we were doing compared to the record books for wettest meteorological winter. In the last few days, Greensboro moved from 21st to 14th, Fayetteville remained 9th, and RDU moved from 3rd to 2nd - JUST shy of the record!

We gave you stats earlier about meteorological winter, here are stats about just February. We had below normal temperatures (more a function of cold high temperatures than cold low temperatures) and above normal precipitation for all three climate sites.

It's never ever ever going to stop raining. I heard the Raleigh area was 7" or 8" above normal for the months of December thru February. It must be super dry somewhere in the world.

Today will be the 6th day in a row without rain at RDU, and we're not expecting rain Monday-Friday, bringing us up to 11 days of dry weather (we have a slight chance of rain this weekend). The last time we went 11 days without rain was 5/30/20 to 6/9/20.

This Wednesday morning at 9:30 AM EST, there will be a statewide tornado drill. There are multiple ways to receive severe weather alerts, such as NOAA Weather Radio, alerts to your cell phone, through cell phone apps, the Emergency Alert System, plus radio and TV. #NCwx https://t.co/hkeIqIsv7X

Low relative humidity, above normal temperatures, and increasing winds will work together to produce favorable conditions for wildfires to ignite and spread Thursday. Open burning is considered extremely dangerous. #NCwx https://t.co/sf0lLnHHeM

We are 10 days away from the Spring Equinox, where we will experience 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness. The Sun moves over different latitudes of Earth throughout the year. Question is....where will the Sun be directly overhead on March 20?

(1/2) Time's up! It's the Equator!

We have two equinoxes in the Spring and Fall. The Sun oscillates between 23.5N (Tropic of Cancer) in the Northern Hemisphere summer (Summer Solstice) and 23.5S (Tropic of Capricorn) in the Northern Hemisphere winter (Winter Solstice).

(2/2) After the Spring Equinox, we will continue to gain daylight, reaching a peak in the Summer Solstice, in which the Sun will be directly overhead at 23.5N.
