Happy 4th of July! The heat index today will once again reach the mid 90s to near 100. Be sure to take precautions today to prevent heat illnesses, such as increasing hydration, limiting exertion, and spending time in air conditioning or in shaded, well-ventilated areas. #ncwx

Most locations will warm up into the 90s again today. However, increasing rain chances during the midweek period will also provide a break from the heat! #ncwx https://t.co/n5igpmDFFB

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a system (40% chance of development) that will move off of our coast on Wednesday. Regardless of this system's tropical status, areas of northeast SC and southeast NC will see 1-3 inches of rain through Thursday, 2-4 along the coast. https://t.co/eQSd7ycyE7

High chance' tropical system develops off NC coast this week

A tropical or subtropical cyclone is likely to form from the system over the next couple of days.

"The low is expected to move northeastward near or just offshore of the North Carolina Outer Banks on Thursday, and then turn north-northeastward and move along the mid-Atlantic coast Friday," NHC said.

If it develops into a named storm, it would be Fay.

It would have no impact on central North Carolina but it will produce heavy rainfall that could cause some flash flooding across portions of eastern North Carolina.

Here's the latest from the @NHC_Atlantic on the low on the NC coast. Little has changed on thinking, although chances for a tropical depression or storm have increased a bit. Regardless of development, will still see rainy/gusty conditions at the coast thru tonight. #ncwx

Anyone get a look at radar this morning? We've got roost rings! The expanding circles you see across the southeast are actually birds leaving their roosts in the early morning hours. In SC, these are generally purple martins. #scwx https://t.co/xlejmR1RTO

They need to check that station south of durham that's sitting at 152 hours. Way off from all the stations anywhere near there.

Temps are already reaching the mid 80s to around 90, on their way to highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s. Take it easy if you're outside today! Take breaks in the shade and A/C, drink lots of water, and don't overexert. #ncwx #beattheheat (map courtesy of @NCSCO )

Happy Sunday! Be aware if you're heading to the beach. Coastal Brunswick County has a high risk of rip currents today, in addition to a moderate risk along the rest of our area beaches. Heat indices will hit the triple digits again. Drink plenty of water! #ncwx #scwx #ILMwx
