Absolutely agreed on the stadium part. It is mindboggling we haven't used the recent success to build a 5,000 seat palace and make Doak the place to be in Raleigh during the April-June window. So much revenue left on the table between gate receipts and beer sales

Big picture this team has overachieved. We are put together like a small market MLB team. We have a few high end arms that were home grown and then seemingly were working on a very tight budget in the free agent market. This leads to a team that has limitations offensively but remains competitive due to the high end arms. Gonna have some losses you don't like when your offense is limited. Pitching will win a lot of games but it doesn't win out every night.

Going to need more money to compete nationally I suspect moving forward. The SEC, with football money but also money derived from these huge stadiums they fill consistently, is going to have a different level of talent than we can put together. If we are going to continue to be a lower budget roster, we need to pick it up with HS recruiting. Look at our lineup - there are very few highly rated HS recruits playing. Sosa and Head are about it and neither player is from NC. We need to do a better job in state with all the talent that is produced in NC. Look at the 2026 class that is mostly done. We have a few hangovers from freshman year commitments that probably aren't playing at this level as juniors. We have 2-3 high end offensive talents coming in and really not much in terms of arms. Need more than that in a given class.

Having said that, I have said and will say I wish we would invest more heavily in baseball - facilities and players.

Yep and unlike basketball it is an ascending sport from a fan attendance perspective.

None of us liked the outcome last night but getting back from the game and reading through the post-game posts, there were some very not-hot takes last night.

None of liked the outcome, but this is baseball man. Stanford's starter didn't have a 17 ERA. He didn't cut his teeth playing for the Bad New Bears. He's a P4 scholarship pitcher with an ERA in the mid-4's and a 6-0 record. And we weren't playing the Savannah Bananas. This team took a series from the Cheats.

Hitting isn't matter of effort or want-to. If that were the case good hitters wouldn't fail 70% of the time. If hitting was just a matter of locking in at the plate and having a quality AB, hitting wouldn't be the hardest thing to do in sports.

The story of the game was Stanford getting to two of our best arms to scratch across runs late and us not being able to capitalize on a couple of opportunities, especially bases loaded one out. That was enough in a tight game when we weren't stringing together hits and had some hard-hit balls right at dudes.

Huge that we're locked in with the double-bye. Finishing first in the regular season would be a nice footnote but it's not the prize.

Go get one today, let's cross our fingers we get a little help in Tallahassee, and then go try and sprint to the finish and win some hardware for Avent in Durham!

Slightly different start times today. State at 1pm and UNC/FSU at 2pm. Assuming State wins we'll have about 3 innings to watch in Tallahassee.

Agreed Doak needs an upgrade in a bad way. The program has more than earned it. We should all go in on a lottery pool for State athletics, someone's gotta win it right?? lol

Exactly. It's a real problem that the best seat in the house is standing on the first base concourse, which is what many of the actual ticket holders do. Doak is just built into too small of a space. It's cramped and there isn't much you can do from an expansion standpoint. Play at U.S.A. baseball or maybe Ting for a year, and rebuild it completely with an actual long term vision. Doak is beyond its useful life. No one would be upset if we hit pause on the current project and reassess to actually get this right. Otherwise we are stuck with this thing for another 20 years

I'm not sayin i wouldn't enjoy a regular season title…but the automatic bid for the NCAA tourney comes from winning the conf tourney, not the regular season. Thereby it inherently has more value, whether we need it to get in or not.

What's wild to me is that the coach that has been here for 20+ years without a title of any kind makes comments diminishing a regular season title.

Sure it's not the ultimate goal but it should be the 1st goal! Win the regular season and get the #1 seed. Secure a host post and put yourself in the best position possible to win a conference tournament title and make it to Omaha.

It's mildly amusing how regular season vs tournament titles are discussed around here. If you win a tournament title, it can be dismissed as just having a lucky week. Then I've seen today that winning the regular season wouldn't be an accomplishment because our record isn't impressive enough. I've also seen that nobody cares about the regular season title, which I guess is the case until you lose a game that could've won you one, then lots of people care apparently. I think the only way to really make people happy would be to dominate the regular season, win the regular season title, and then dominantly win the tournament with no help or luck. That night satisfy the masses.

I just want EA to get some sort of title, because that's really the only thing that folks can use against him. There's no doubt that getting to Omaha is a much bigger accomplishment than winning either conference title, but I'm tired of hearing about how long it's been. This isn't anywhere close to his best team, but they've been punching above their weight, and if they do win the regular season, it will be deserved, regardless of their record. And if they don't end up the regular season champs, the tournament is there for the taking with the new format. Just win one somehow.

Going to need more money to compete nationally I suspect moving forward.
Yeah I don't know why the record will matter. No. 1 is No. 1.

This!! We continue to put lipstick on the pig. Even after this upgrade, it will still just be a better dressed pig in nice makeup. Needs torn down and completely redone but our cheap a$$es don't have enough money and gumption to get it done.

Yep go play at USA baseball for a year and do this thing right.

That's exactly what I do. I have a season ticket behind home plate with a great view and I never spend more than 2-3 innings in my seat. Some games I never go to my seat.
I once had an usher tell me I had to go to my seat because I didn't have a SRO ticket, LOL.

Sweet 16s and Elite 8s matter more in baseball to some.

"To some" come on man. Ask any coach or player. They would rather make it to Omaha than any conference title.

This!!! Just win to shut people up. Regular season and acc tournament wins - both or either, would be cherries on top for what has already been a great career for EA. Plus I know the cheats would love nothing more than to slam the door and keep him from getting it. As they said in Major League- "win the whole effing thing"! Let's go Pack!!!!

Of course he can make it to Omaha without winning the league. Nobody doubts that. I just can't imaging coaching at a school for 25+ years, not having a single championship of any kind and downplaying the opportunity to win one.
