NC State baseball headed to Louisana for NCAA Regional

The Wolfpack will be the 2-seed in Ruston and face 3-seed Alabama Friday.

NC State baseball’s season will continue this weeked in the NCAA regional round. After falling just short in a 1-0 loss to Duke in the ACC Championship Game, the Wolfpack will look to advance to a Super Regional for the first time since 2013 by winning the Ruston, Louisana Regional, hosted by Louisiana Tech.

After starting the regular season 1-8 and then finishing 24-6 and making it the conference title game, the Pack will be the 2-seed in this regional behind 1-seed Louisiana Tech. The Wolfpack will start things off against 3-seed Alabama Friday at 3 p.m. on ESPN3. 4-seed Rider rounds out the group. 

Alabama went 31-24 overall this year and finished 11th in a loaded SEC. Louisana Tech went 40-18 and fell to Old Dominion in the Conference USA Championship game. Rider finished 23-16 but won the MAAC Tournament. 

The winner of this regional would face the winner of the Fayetteville, Araknas Regional, hosted by No. 1 overall seed Arkansas, in the Super Regional round.

That's what i was just thinking about. You need three outs. You put RJ back out there or let him call it a day? I think he'll close it out, but you could get one of your less crucial guys a chance to get loose.

great. seems like so many years, we get into a collective hitting malaise when we get to the post-season (including last week).

I believe many of these things are "catchy", in both directions, and hopefully the whole team catches on to this hitting jag and we put lots of runs up on the board all w/e.

Honestly, I didn't think Reid really had his good stuff today. It's a testament to how much of a competitor he is that he had the performance he did. I don't have a problem shutting him down at that point.

We saw in the ACCT how important it is to have Villaman available to finish Matt's starts. Evan didn't have much left at that point in the weekend

Played it right, IMO. Villaman has plenty left for the rest of the weekend as well and it keeps Justice fresh.

We also need to remember, to PackChem's point, the staff has much more info than we do. Reid could've told them he didn't have it during last half inning in the dugout.

Chris had it and shut'em down quick.

Great job by the guys. Not a single to be had and we scored 8 runs with 9 extra base hits. Reid had a great outing and I wish he could have finished, but it did give Villaman a chance to experience pitching in the tournament with really no pressure and he delivered. He should be good to go for extended relief or a start if we need it.

Bats woke up after the goose egg on Sunday. Might have to score a lot of runs in that ball park. Have to win the first one in a double elimination tournament and we checked that box. Justice can go longer tomorrow or Sunday if we need him to. Great job guys, lets be ready tomorrow night.

Reid didn't really protest coming out, so I think he knew it was time. I don't know if what was on the screen was correct, but I swear it said he got 96 in the first inning. If he was feeling the adrenaline and pumping heat it could've worn him down. I actually thought he looked gassed in the 7th, but he kept getting outs because that's what he does. I also don't mind Villaman coming in and getting some practice in a closer type role. I wouldn't have wanted to see him stretched out today, but throwing an inning isn't going to keep him from pitching again this weekend.

If Reid had not walked the first batter on four pitches he probably would have stayed in. That was the most uncomfortable he was the whole game. Smaller park like that you don't want to give them any hope. Remember what happened at TCU? Villaman threw less than 15 pitches and looked good. He's good for lengthy duty if we need him.

not hosting

same group of sites used for Regionals will be used for Super Regionals, I have not seen what happens if both seeds lose which site will be used
