Ed Scott and
Vince Robinson, sixth-ranked NC State wrestling handled business with App State Friday night to take a 34-12 victory for its first home dual-match of the 2024-25 slate.
After bumping up to 133 pounds in the offseason, redshirt-sophomore
Troy Hohman, entered the lineup for the Wolfpack to open the dual-match. His first points of the night over App State's Chad Bellis came from a 2-point reversal to start the second period. He then gave up a technical point and an escape to make it two a piece. With 30 seconds remaining in the second period he secured a 3-point takedown that was challenged by App State's head coach and overturned, keeping it 2-2. With less than a minute remaining in the bout, Bellis is able to get a takedown on the edge to carry his decision win comfortably and give the Mountaineers the first team points of the night.
Wrestling at 141 in the starting lineup for the first time in Reynolds Coliseum, seventh-ranked
Kai Orine faced App State's Sean Carter who had to injury default early in the third period, giving NC State the 6-3 lead in team points.
Koy Buesgens claimed a 7-5 victory when he took the stage in the starting lineup at 149 pounds for the first time to face Kaden Keiser. The first period closed out scoreless, but Buesgens started the second in down position and gave away two back points but followed up with an escape making it 1-2. The redshirt-freshman for the Pack is able to get a takedown with 30 seconds left in the second period, giving him the 4-2 lead. Tied up at four a piece with just a minute remaining in the bout, a scramble leads to Buesgens next takedown, cruising him to a victory and a 9-3 team score.
Ninth-ranked
Ed Scott followed up made an aggressive return to Reynolds Coliseum in the 157 weight class over the Mountaineer's Anthony Conetta. He looked for a pin fall in the first period but with short time he was only able to get a 4-point near fall and push to a quick 10-1 lead. Scott carried his dominance to the third period, getting himself a technical fall to end the bout early and push his team's lead to 11.
The key match-up of the night was the 165 pound bout between No. 20
Derek Fields and visiting opponent No. 8 Will Miller who has started his season 3-0. Fields was able to hold off Miller in the first period and start the second with an escape. He gets taken down to trail 2-3 moving into the final two minutes and was never able to take a lead, giving App State three team points.
25th-ranked
Matty Singleton returned to the mat in Raleigh after taking the last year to redshirt while he competed internationally and put on weight to go up to 174. He came out explosive looking for an early pin fall but was only able to secure a 4-point near fall and push a 7-0 lead to close out the first three minutes. The Georgia native was able to take his early lead and only allow Luke Uliano two points, handing a 9-2 loss out to the visiting Mountaineer.
In the 184 pound weight class 14th-ranked
Dylan Fishback took on Tomas Brooker who had to injury default in the first period.
The next bout featuring No. 30
Christian Knop at 197 pounds, led to him having to injury default in the third period to Carson Floyd, handing App State's its final team points of the night.
At heavyweight,
Isaac Trumble made his 285 pound debut in front of the home crowd in style by pinning Levi Andrews in the first period.
Redshirt-freshman
Vince Robinson closed out the night with a flashy technical fall over Noah Luna after taking a hefty lead through the first five minutes of the bout and then finish out on top 20-5.
