Didn't see anything wrestling-related in the Ticket Exchange, so apologies if this is not the right place....

I'm unable to attend Senior Night against Stanford on 14 Feb, so I've got 2 free GA tickets if anyone would like to attend - PM me with your email address and I'm happy to transfer.

Vince Robinson. So consistent for a young guy. Just all gas no brakes regardless of who is lined up against him.

Orine gets a break from making weight at 133 (which Pop does a lot in these types of duals), and Hohman steps in and gets a ranked win.

141: Tyler Tracy gets majored by #21 Dylan Cedeno, 8-0. Not a great effort by Tracy, who ended all three periods on bottom. Just have to get up and save the team a point.

149: #33 Koy Buesgens defeats #28 Jack Gioffre, 4-2. Doesn't seem like a big deal for this dual but it could be big for ACC Tournament seeding and Buesgens getting to the NCAA Tournament.

157: #14 Ed Scott beats Michael Gioffre 10-4. Uninspiring, you'd like Ed to get a major against a guy like that.

165: #27 Derek Fields defeats Mason Stefanelli 4-2. I think Fields scored on the only shot taken the entire match. Not the most entertaining but a good win to have.

174: #19 Matty Singleton beats Michael Murphy, 9-2. Complete control for Singleton.

184: #11 Dylan Fishback defeated Griffin Gammell 14-8. Fishback built a 10-1 lead then seemed to run out of gas and had to hold on for the win.

197: #26 Christian Knop defeats Steven Burrell Jr. 8-5. Not super pretty but a strong ride out in the third gets it done for Knop.

HWT: #4 Isaac Trumble pins Gabe Christenson in the second period. No match.

State wins easily 32-4, winning 9 of the 10 matches.

Sixth-ranked NC State wrestling picked up its second conference win Friday night by claiming nine of 10 bouts on Virginia's home turf. The 32-4 victory makes it the Pack's 11th consecutive win over the Cavaliers.

Virginia boasts three ranked wrestlers all within the top-30 of their weight classes. NC State was able to defeat two of the three, but the most notable was for Troy Hohman to re-enter the lineup at 133 lbs and take out No. 27 Gable Porter. In the only ranked against ranked matchup of the night, 33rd-ranked Koy Buesgens was able to defeat No. 28 Jack Gioffre by a tight 4-2 score.

The dual started at 125 pounds with Vince Robinson, now ranked third in the country, kicking off the energy for the Pack. He quickly handled business with Virginia's Anthony Rossi by securing a technical fall in the second period to put the Pack up 5-0.

At 133 pounds, Troy Hohman re-entered the lineup to face one of three members of the Cavaliers ranked nationally. The redshirt-sophomore was able to secure a takedown in the first period over No. 27 Gable Porter that would allow him to hold an edge throughout the rest of the match. With Hohman starting in the down position for the third period, he was able to add another point from an escape to strengthen his lead and hold off his opponent's attacks to close out the match and give his team another three points.

Finishing off the dual at 285 lbs, fourth-ranked Isaac Trumble suddenly tallied his fourth fall of the season.

NC State claimed six straight decisions, topped off by Trumble's pin at heavyweight to close the night, ensured that the Wolfpack would be able to run away with the win.

Up Next
The Wolfpack will return home next week to host No. 16 Pittsburgh on Friday night (January 24) for Military Appreciation night. The dual is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start on ACCNX in Reynolds Coliseum.

That's what I'm going to do. I don't suspect this match tonight will sell out. For the three earlier home matches this year, they didn't come close to selling out: ~2,500 at the App State match, ~2,000 at the Utah Valley match, and ~2,500 at the Duke match. They sold out at home last year for big opponents like Oklahoma State, unc, and VT. But they haven't been selling out for other "lesser" opponents.

You save some money by buying the ticket at the door too, versus buying a single-game ticket on GoPack. At the door, I think it will be around $12 for an adult in general admission, versus on Gopack $18 after they tack on $6 of fees.

For this season especially, we seem to have a lot of guys in the middle weights who seem almost afraid to take shots or be offensive. Tough to watch.

I've noticed this across the country watching. I wonder if the 3 point takedown is actually causing guys to be more conservative.

But if you look at our middle weight guys specifically, it makes sense:
Tracy is a young guy, not the nationally ranked caliber we've been spoiled with the last few years
Koy is another young guy, wrestles a lot of low scoring, control based matches
Ed Scott has never been a big shots guy. Loves the upper body locks and throws
Fields wrestles similarly to Koy. I wish he would shoot more as I think he finishes well once he gets to a leg.

125. #3 Vince Robinson defeats #25 Nick Babin, 6-2. Didn't love the third period from Vince but great work early on to get a couple takedowns and take control of the match.

133. #12 Kai Orine tech fall Tyler Chappell, 17-0. No match. Kai was dominant on top getting multiple tilts.

141. Tyler Tracy loses to Anthony Santaniello, 9-4. Two guys coming in with losing records, Pitt gets their first win of the night. Tracy got put on his back and a 4-4 match became a 9-4 match in the third period.

149. #29 Koy Buesgens defeats #21 Finn Solomon, 4-1. Solomon was an NCAA qualifier last year and actually was at State for a year before transferring to Pitt. Back to back ranked wins for Buesgens. 149 is loaded in the ACC with three top 10 guys. Those are big wins for ACC seeding and getting to the NCAA tournament. Impressive win for Koy who got a late takedown in the first period to take the lead.

Pack up 11-3 through four matches.

157. #14 Ed Scott defeats #25 Dylan Evans, 5-3. Loved seeing Ed get aggressive in the first, got a nice takedown with a fireman's carry. Some interesting officiating, as Scott got hit with stalling a couple times even though he was clearly dictating the action.

Halfway through, Pack up 14-3.

165. #28 Derek Fields major decisions Jared Keslar, 14-6. Fields got to his offense. Good to take care of business against an unranked guy.

174. #18 Matty Singleton loses to #20 Luca Augustine, 3-1 in overtime. Singleton needed to work more in neutral to score. Only really had one close takedown opportunity.

Team score now 18-6, Pack.

Sixth-ranked NC State wrestling improves to 3-0 in conference action after taking down 15th-ranked Pittsburgh by a 22-13 score at home Friday night.

The dual featured a staggering seven ranked match-ups between wrestlers in their respective weight classes, including two Midlands champions from this past December on the side of Pitt, who accounted for two of Pitt's three wins tonight.

Starting at the Wolfpack's usual - 125 lbs - the lower weights for NC State carried steam through the first half of the match to push their control over the scoreboard.

Vince Robinson started out the night putting three points on the board from a 6-2 decision over 25th-ranked Nick Babin, a 2023 NCAA Qualifier. Following his lead, Kai Orine delivered bonus points and fueled crowd excitement when he secured a technical fall in the second period for the team to go up 8-0.

At 141 pounds, Tyler Tracy dropped a tight match by a 9-5 score to give Pitt it's first points of the night, making the team scores 8-3.

The Pack would go on to take the next three bouts at 149, 157, and 165 pounds to strengthen the team lead moving into the back half of the dual. Koy Buesgens solidified a key match when he upset former Wolfpack member, 21st-ranked Finn Solomon with just one takedown.

Ed Scott handled business with a 5-3 win in his bout over his opponent, 25th-ranked Dylan Evans. Derek Fields took his opportunity to seal bonus points for his team to take NC State up 18-3.

NC State dropped the next three bouts at 174, 184, and 197 pounds to bring Pitt back into striking distance on the team scoreboard. At 174 lbs, Matty Singleton fell to 20th-ranked Luca Augustine in extended overtime by a 3-2 score after going through sudden victory and tiebreaker periods.

The 184 pound match remained close up until the end, when Dylan Fishback had a 1-0 lead to start the third period but 15th-ranked Reece Heller recorded the only two-point reversal off the night, followed by a takedown to win 6-2.

Despite taking injury time early on in the bout, Christian Knop continued to wrestle but fell by a major decision at 197 lbs to 11th-ranked Mac Stout, moving the team scores within single digits.

The night concluded with the 285 pound final between fourth-ranked Isaac Trumble and the Panther's 13th-ranked Dayton Pitzer. Pitt entered the bout with a chance to even up the team score down 13-18. Trumble came out with a decisive 10-1 victory to seal the deal for the red-and-white.

Up Next
The Wolfpack travels to cross-town rival North Carolina next Friday, January 31 for its fourth ACC match-up of the season.
