NC State grinded out a hard-fought, 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-21) victory over Syracuse on Friday afternoon in Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball action at Women's Gymnasium.
The Pack (10-8, 4-3 ACC) hit .319 with 65 kills in the match, marking season highs in both categories in a four-set match. The win extended NC State's win streak to three games, having won nine out of the last 10 sets played.
Senior Jade Parchment led the charge for the Wolfpack as she recorded a match-high 19 kills on a thunderous .378 hitting percentage alongside six digs. Junior Taylor Rowland added her fourth double-double of the season with 18 kills (ties season high) and 10 digs.
Graduate student Melissa Evans added 11 kills on .381 hitting. Junior Kristen McDaniel controlled the offense with 32 assists while graduate student Kaylee Frazier paced the defense with a game-best 15 digs, her fifth consecutive match with double-digit digs.
Set One (NC State 23, Syracuse 25)
Both teams came prepared to fight in the first set as there were nine ties and five lead changes. The biggest lead throughout the set was a three-point lead as neither team gave much breathing room. The final tie came at 17 before the Orange (14-5, 3-4 ACC) went on a quick 2-0 run that created enough space to take the first set. Both offenses were dominant as Cuse hit .412 while NC State recorded a .424 hitting clip.
Set Two (NC State 25, Syracuse 22)
NC State controlled most of the momentum early in the set as the team reeled off a 5-0 run to take a commanding 11-6 lead. Syracuse answered with a 6-1 run to tie the score at 12. The Pack was able to regain the lead but the Orange did not let up, coming back to tie the score at 20. The Wolfpack forced a couple of Syracuse errors and Evans recorded the set-sealing kill to tie the match at 1-all.
Set Three (NC State 25, Syracuse 17)
The third set was all NC State as the Pack jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead that turned into a comfortable 11-3 lead that it would not relinquish. NC State shut down any hopes of Syracuse taking a lead as the defense recorded 15 digs in the set to hold the Orange to .086 hitting while the offense smacked down 18 kills on a .317 hitting clip.
Set Four (NC State 25, Syracuse 21)
Early in the set was all Syracuse as it took a 3-1 lead and kept NC State at bay for the next few points. The Pack fought back and tied the score at 12 before getting back-to-back kills from Parchment and Evans that shifted the momentum to NC State, as the team took a 14-12 lead that it would not let up.
