What I've seen reported but not confirmed is that this would be similar to if you shot a plane down and the pilot ejected, at that point they stop being a combatant. Therefore it would be a war crime to shoot the pilot.

To my knowledge, when any admin say "I take full responsibility", I don't think that actually means anything… Those are words; however, seldom, if ever, does any type of accountability come along with those words…

I can't imagine any legal issue will and should come from those actions. For me, I take a more hardline approach…. These people on the boat had a clear intent to provide for the distribution of drugs in the US. Taking them completely out is not out of order.

The people responsible for the distribution of drugs have an intent to make money, with a byproduct of destruction of people, whether the people want the drugs or not. For that, and with the volume of these drugs, eliminating them is a reasonable action. I think we need to clear up any laws that make this thinking shut down. These people are like any other person or group with the intent of destroying the people of the US with other means.

If we're not at war and we're offing civilians that pose no clear threat to the US (someone injured hanging from the side of the boat), that's extrajudicial murder and military members aren't shielded.

The crux of whether any crime took place here likely hinges on whether it can be established someone knew there were survivors before ordering the second round of attacks on the boat.

If that's established, I think this goes very poorly for Hegseth or the op commander or whoever else knew before ordering or executing their killing.
