See. This is a joke, right?

So far, I see no pieces that need picked up.

You guys feign that the world is coming to an end, but so far what has really changed other than gas prices and grocery prices dropping a little bit. Where exactly is all this doom that you say is happening?

Hasn't. Happened. Yet. (and probably won't either)

If your litmus test is "my world in eastern NC didn't end in the last two months because [whatever DOGE nonsense] happened," that leaves a fair gap in the analysis, no?

You're not going to feel cutting billions in public health funding until the next pandemic.

You're not going to feel cuts in vaccine delivery to African nations, even if millions more cases of malaria, or MMR, or HIV/AIDS result.

You're not going to feel Park Service cuts until you walk the poorly maintained trail down into the Grand Canyon.

You're not going to feel cuts to the CFPB unless you're one of the unlucky Americans that fall victim to fraudsters or get taken advantage of by nefarious lenders.

I could keep going, but you get the point.

None of these cuts, or many of the others implemented by DOGE, will be felt by most Americans. And that analysis falls woefully short of the comprehensive analysis needed to determine if a cut is prudent or impactful in the big big world.
If we keep spending the way we have, YES!!!! Eastern NC will feel it. In fact they have been feeling for a long time. Unfortunately, it's been a slow change, therefore, people don't see it as a hard hit.

How many people today can afford to live on a single income, compared to 40 - 50 years ago?

No one aligned with this current administration has a leg to stand on chirping about deficits and spending all while cutting taxes for the rich.

No one aligned with the previous administration has a leg to stand on chirping about deficit and spending all while maintaining the so-called tax cuts for the rich!

Civ, that is such a hallow post! I have said multiple times that both parties have spent like drunken sailors. We didn't get this deficit spending leading to our debt by a single party!

What's also rich is all the Dems stopping any and all proposed spending cuts via the court system. How many times have you heard a government employee say something like the following:

I have to spend my budgeted money or I'll lose it next year!!!

Trump is the only Republican that makes Democrats look fiscally responsible. All of his proposed cuts are more than offset by his revenue reduction plans. He's proposing to make the deficit even worse at a time where we are legitimately approaching a debt crisis.

We have been in a debt crises for 20 years!

Not even close to now. Interest payments vs GDP is the measure that matter most. We've reached levels not seen in 30 years and are still getting worse. Trumps stated fiscal plans are going to accelerate this further.

If you care about debt, y'all should have thrown Trump out for an actual conservative.

Edit to add this graph
https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/FYOIGDA188S

I think most people, with common sense know the debt is out of control. If you think I'm going to sit here and blame Trump when both parties since the early 80's have been deficit spending, then that isn't happening…

Let's not pretend that Trump has created this 37T debt. Do I wish we would balance the budget? Absolutely!!

Unfortunately, neither party is willing to give up their pet money project to do anything. Perhaps it's intentional…. I don't know. What I do know is that people are coming around and finally saying something, when I've been talking about it for years. Yea, whatever… is my thought!

Stand up on the table and say something all the time…

yeah, I'm excited to pay more taxes, more for goods and services, and also lose 25% of my investments!

Also, they made up these tariff numbers. They're nonsensical. Brazil and Singapore at the same amount? One with the highest barriers to trade, the other the most open free trade country. Ridiculous trash.

I'll get on board when someone can explain to me how they came up with these numbers.

We have been in a debt crises for 20 years!
And warned about it along the way by personages such as the Comptroller General of the United States and a Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who once characterized it as increasingly our greatest threat. Neither political party heeded. Maybe we're approaching the abyss, I wonder if that in part, is why gold just blew through $3,150 and another ATH tonight.

Except that the stock market always does better under Dems, and since Reagan every Republican has spiked the deficit and every Dem has lowered it. Other than that you're totally right.

Most here in the WC are in the 22%-37% federal income tax bracket. I'll gladly pay the markup on tariffs in exchange for abolishing the federal income tax. Buy America and don't pay the markup associated with tariffs and don't pay federal income taxes either. It's a good deal.

States can establish their own revenue generating plan. Here in Florida, a debate is whether to keep or discontinue property taxes or gasoline taxes. We don't have a state income tax.

Pence has globalist masters.

They deserve to have him."

Hopefully we can send this guy to a prison out of country. What a waste of a person trying to become a citizen for 20 years. How dare he work and pay taxes! He took a real Americans job! This scum deserves to be deported!

Just gonna pop in and say I really wish Congress would do their f'n job instead of filibustering without a bill on the docket or fighting for proxy voting (which should never be allowed). Then maybe we wouldn't be getting such wild swings in policy from the executive branch.

Carry on

Damn!! I went to bed early, last night, and woke up to the insanity of the board…

If the world collapses in a year, let's talk about these tariffs. Until then, Trump is going to Fundamentally Change (have we heard that before and it was ok?) the US economy. I, personally, believe in the concept of bringing more manufacturing back to the US. Also, I believe a better way of doing it is through "0" business taxes; however, a tariff program is needed for outside businesses and/or Countries to gain access to the largest economy in the world.

At least, everyone is recognizing that we do "NOT" have free trade with all these countries. Otherwise, we would have more vitriol to the "Kind" reciprocal tariffs chart, Trump displayed.

I 1000% believe you believe all that Cary but Trump doesn't. Those reasons are all made up. The only real reason we are doing Tariffs higher than ever tried in the history of the United States is because Trump thinks trade is a zero sum game and that's because all his business dealings in real estate are zero sum games. You either build on the property because you own it or you don't because you lost.

That's not how trade works. Trade deficits DO NOT MATTER BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT ZERO SUM. We are going to be taxed and tariffed to an unprecedented point because our President has thought about trade this way since he was 15.

We won't even start with the constitutional issues here or the fact that the reciprocal tariffs are just made up numbers.

There is no plan here other than to get into a trade war. That's it, that's the plan. It's not to create investment, not to end income tax, not to bring manufacturing to the US, not even to make trade fair. It not even to bluff and posture. All of that is made up reasons for this. If anyone here claims that there is a strategic plan for all this you are lying there is not.

There will be negative wage growth for the rest of the year, we are going to put our good friends the farmers, yes those great farmers so far underwater they will need a bailout. The colllapse won't wait a year. It'll happen in weeks.

Remind me how the previous administration's actions were even remotely similar.

What did the previous administration do that was so profoundly and unnecessarily adversarial with every other major economy in the world, that also was roundly predicted to hurt markets, stagnate wages, slow GDP growth, increase unemployment, increase inflation, and throw our economy into a recession?

Listen, I've been on the phone all morning discussing the effect on our business from yesterday's tariff rollout. All, this isn't a good thing at all for us. Fortunately, we've been planning for this.

Let's look at the tariff application:

Asia market - massive tariffs
South America - small tariffs

Why? Well, I have a theory…. A consolidation of manufacturing in our hemisphere. 1) to support US workers 2) uplift the rest of the hemisphere so they can create jobs in order to eliminate illegal immigration.

Companies, in my industry are going to get killed by these changes. Yes, it's going to hurt us, in the short term; however, as I said… we've been counter-sourcing our product in other countries. Now, we would love to manufacture in the States; however, the infrastructure isn't here to do so. Forget the potential cost of labor, it just flat out isn't here!

Everyone has to do what's best for them right now. For me, it's time to go do some modeling of our inventory and supply base…
