In fact they have been feeling for a long time. Unfortunately, it's been a slow change, therefore, people don't see it as a hard hit.Civilized said:TheStorm said:See. but we're all left to pick up the pieces.
So far, I see no pieces that need picked up.
You guys feign that the world is coming to an end, but so far what has really changed other than gas prices and grocery prices dropping a little bit. Where exactly is all this doom that you say is happening?
Hasn't. Happened. Yet. (and probably won't either)
If your litmus test is "my world in eastern NC didn't end in the last two months because [whatever DOGE nonsense] happened," that leaves a fair gap in the analysis, no?
You're not going to feel cutting billions in public health funding until the next pandemic.
You're not going to feel cuts in vaccine delivery to African nations, even if millions more cases of malaria, or MMR, or HIV/AIDS result.
You're not going to feel Park Service cuts until you walk the poorly maintained trail down into the Grand Canyon.
You're not going to feel cuts to the CFPB unless you're one of the unlucky Americans that fall victim to fraudsters or get taken advantage of by nefarious lenders.
I could keep going, but you get the point.
None of these cuts, or many of the others implemented by DOGE, will be felt by most Americans. And that analysis falls woefully short of the comprehensive analysis needed to determine if a cut is prudent or impactful in the big big world.
How many people today can afford to live on a single income, compared to 40 - 50 years ago?
No one aligned with this current administration has a leg to stand on chirping about deficits and spending all while cutting taxes for the rich.
No one aligned with the previous administration has a leg to stand on chirping about deficit and spending all while maintaining the so-called tax cuts for the rich!
Civ, that is such a hallow post! I have said multiple times that both parties have spent like drunken sailors. We didn't get this deficit spending leading to our debt by a single party!
What's also rich is all the Dems stopping any and all proposed spending cuts via the court system. How many times have you heard a government employee say something like the following:
I have to spend my budgeted money or I'll lose it next year!!!
Trump is the only Republican that makes Democrats look fiscally responsible. All of his proposed cuts are more than offset by his revenue reduction plans. He's proposing to make the deficit even worse at a time where we are legitimately approaching a debt crisis.
We have been in a debt crises for 20 years!
Not even close to now. Interest payments vs GDP is the measure that matter most. We've reached levels not seen in 30 years and are still getting worse. Trumps stated fiscal plans are going to accelerate this further.
If you care about debt, y'all should have thrown Trump out for an actual conservative.

I think most people, with common sense know the debt is out of control. If you think I'm going to sit here and blame Trump when both parties since the early 80's have been deficit spending, then that isn't happening…
Let's not pretend that Trump has created this 37T debt. Do I wish we would balance the budget? Absolutely!!
Unfortunately, neither party is willing to give up their pet money project to do anything. Perhaps it's intentional…. I don't know. What I do know is that people are coming around and finally saying something, when I've been talking about it for years. Yea, whatever… is my thought!
Stand up on the table and say something all the time…
