If having tariffs is so "bad" as commie Leftists tell us, then why does virtually every other nation on the earth use tariffs and have much higher tariffs on US-produced goods than the United States does on goods produced in their countries?Werewolf said:

are you basing tariff rates from other countries based on trade deficit on goods and material? If you are, I'm sorry but you don't understand basic econ because the world economy is based on the dollar. Guess whose currency that is? We could have done this even simpler by just tanking the dollar. That would have removed all tariffs.GuerrillaPack said:If having tariffs is so "bad" as commie Leftists tell us, then why does virtually every other nation on the earth use tariffs and have much higher tariffs on US-produced goods than the United States does on goods produced in their countries?Werewolf said:

Have you ever been to the remnants of a what was a thriving Midwest town? Do we need to name there here? Detroit auto makers and Steel production towns? I remember all this wondering what the hell are we doing? It's a slippery slope for America's middle-class worker and there is only one way and that's down. Some of this is critical to our national security and in time of war or global disturbance we need to be able to produce those products essential to our national security and well-being. He didn't have to restart his career 20 years ago like I did because all our Textile jobs went to China either... back then we didn't have time to whine about it like he does, we just had to put on our big boy pants and start doing something different. Sure would have loved to retire in the field that my degree was in, just like my father did before me, but that wasn't an option unfortunately. Somehow, I've managed to survive just fine - even if it wasn't easy...Werewolf said:You've only known 20 yrs of adult life. You've resided in a globalist world. Keep in mind that Trump borrowed Viktor Orban's copy of Dictatoring for Dummies, and has been sticking pretty closely to it. The majority of Trump's executive orders so far have relied on the same play... use the power of the government to extort companies/agencies/law firms/whoever into submission.hokiewolf said:I 1000% believe you believe all that Cary but Trump doesn't. Those reasons are all made up. The only real reason we are doing Tariffs higher than ever tried in the history of the United States is because Trump thinks trade is a zero sum game and that's because all his business dealings in real estate are zero sum games. You either build on the property because you own it or you don't because you lost.caryking said:
Damn!! I went to bed early, last night, and woke up to the insanity of the board…
If the world collapses in a year, let's talk about these tariffs. Until then, Trump is going to Fundamentally Change (have we heard that before and it was ok?) the US economy. I, personally, believe in the concept of bringing more manufacturing back to the US. Also, I believe a better way of doing it is through "0" business taxes; however, a tariff program is needed for outside businesses and/or Countries to gain access to the largest economy in the world.
At least, everyone is recognizing that we do "NOT" have free trade with all these countries. Otherwise, we would have more vitriol to the "Kind" reciprocal tariffs chart, Trump displayed.
That's not how trade works. Trade deficits DO NOT MATTER BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT ZERO SUM. We are going to be taxed and tariffed to an unprecedented point because our President has thought about trade this way since he was 15.
We won't even start with the constitutional issues here or the fact that the reciprocal tariffs are just made up numbers.
There is no plan here other than to get into a trade war. That's it, that's the plan. It's not to create investment, not to end income tax, not to bring manufacturing to the US, not even to make trade fair. It not even to bluff and posture. All of that is made up reasons for this. If anyone here claims that there is a strategic plan for all this you are lying there is not.
There will be negative wage growth for the rest of the year, we are going to put our good friends the farmers, yes those great farmers so far underwater they will need a bailout. The colllapse won't wait a year. It'll happen in weeks.
This might be the single best explanation of Trump’s tariff policies I’ve seen and it was from a former Democrat on Piers Morgan
